Wolves had a howler yesterday, they looked very good against us especially first half (not unbeatable)....

They've spent all that money and this was just a snapshot of their fans on Twitter yesterday...

My point being, even Wolves fans, with their near perfect squad, are arguing and complaining with some suggesting they need a new midfield...Screenshot_20200928_084459_com.twitter.android.jpg

There's a lot of perspective posts at the moment, unfortunately they won't put the ball in the back of the net and stop us handing gifts to the opposition.

I've read that we're only 3 points behind City and that even Man City get pummelled at times, however these facts have no relevance to us at all as it is at the moment.

Salt and Vinegar not good enough.
Watched most of that yesterday and West Ham were far and away the better side.
I wanted us to go for Bowen.

Happy for you to be pissed off all your life if that's your cup of tea but a perspective post is an attempt at just that, realising it's 3 games in, not just us having a relatively bad start and we all know where our weaknesses lie.

Here's perspective:

No points
No goals
Our best striker out for months
Our best defender out for months
None of our fit forwards are PL standard
Our goalkeeper is not as good as the one we had last season
We play 4 of the "big 6" in the next 5 games, 3 of them away from home
6 straight league defeats, scoring once
We are conceding goals in a manner we didn't last season
The board don't seem to want to spend any more money this window

From my perspective, without a combination of (a) some better luck in games (b) new blood in the squad and (c) some of our players rediscovering last season's pre lockdown form, we will be certs for relegation.

Anyone who criticises the club must be pissed off with life in general. A very typical response.

I'm a realist, if burying your head in the sand is your thing then that's fine, you don't have to try and convince me that I need to do the same.

Did you listen to the fans forum?

Twitter’s absolute carnage when we lose mainly from other obsessed fans but need to rise above it it’s 3 games and most teams except Burnley have a bigger budget performances aren't a million miles off I’d be gobsmacked if we don’t get atleast 1 forward think Ampadu will be in midfield, I think it’ll get worse before it gets better (October) then it’s time to assess properly

Yes. Why? Did we score a goal at the fans forum or stop lumping the ball to our forwards instead of playing 'proper football'?
In fairness, I thought there was less lumping it forward yesterday compared to the first two games. However this highlighted that we are lacking in the final third of the pitch as our right wing back and a midfielder had our two best chances whilst our first choice front two didnt get a shot on target if I recall correctly

It's clear, very clear, you lack perspective and context to our situation. You might've logged on but did you actually listen?

The amount of investment going into this club off the pitch is future proofing it and making up for the lack of investment for over a decade or more.

Running or investing into a football club isn't just on the pitch affairs, it's the whole 360 and that's what the board are doing and trying to manage. We are lucky in this regard.

Also, being critical is fine but we're 3 games in and we've been unlucky to not get anything out of the last 3 games. After the transfer window closes then let's revisit and have another debate shall we but the comments I've seen across social media after 3 games have nothing short of abysmal from our fans.

You are trying to sound clever and accuse me of not understanding, well done. I obviously don't have your level of intellect as I am not able to be grateful to the club for 'securing our future' whilst at the same time we are looking like relegation candidates, which to me seems to be the opposite of 'securing our future'.

Building an extension on the Kop, painting a few columns on the South Stand and making all the right noises about "supporting Chris and his team" is obviously what we really need though rather than points and goals so I'll bow to your superior knowledge.

Christ almighty. Relegation candidates? Really? We're three games in. To live a life with your outlook must be hugely depressing. Astounded you have this outlook so early on.

Actually, I'm not because we saw it all when Wilder first took over in League One. They called for his head and said we'd be league 2 fodder. The same lot been itching to come out at first sign of a bad streak...which it is.

I'll be over the moon if we don't get relegated, but based on form at the moment we are relegation candidates. Feel free to quote me and make me look stupid if we comfortably avoid relegation, I'd be ecstatic if I was wrong.

I'm not calling for Wilder's head or saying that we're rubbish. What we are is a team playing far below what they're capable of and it needs to be addressed by the players and management. It's not bad luck, it's poor performance.

Football and the results of the Blades fortunately have no bearing on my view of life, I'm an upbeat person in general. If I was suffering with depression it's good to see that people like you can make light of it on message boards. I'll relay the view to my wife and kids that I must be 'hugely depressing' to live with, really clever thing to say just because someone doesn't agree with your viewpoint.

I agree.
If we are still bottom on November 1st with the same squad then we probably will struggle to avoid the drop, but until then let’s see what the Board and Wilder do.
We also have the JTW to improve things if needed.
I recall us not winning any of the first 16 games and then beating Forest before we climbed well up the league (no doubt someone has the exact details ).
Panicking and being pessimistic never gets you where you want to be in any business or life situation.

I vaguely recall the club building a brand new stand in 1975. How did that work out in terms of future proofing?

If 2 decades of McCabe has taught us anything, it's that you can have all of the feeder clubs and foreign ventures and development squads you like, but it's the spending on the players on the pitch that is key.

Don't be ridiculous - your outlook based on the context of where we are as a club on and off the field currently is depressing.

On the field performance translates to league position, we are currently bottom. My view may be depressing to you but with 0 points and 0 goals from 3 games I'm not going to say "we'll be fine".

Off the field, we are in a position where if we stay in the PL we will be secure financially for years, we should be pulling out all the stops to ensure that this happens, not pissing about over transfer deals despite the manager publicly requesting that we don't.

My bit of perspective:

  1. Whilst ever our wage bill and expenditure on players is at the current levels, 17th place in the Premier League will resemble a massive overachievement for Sheffield United.
  2. Rather than focusing negatively on bringing in a much needed keeper and wing back cover, fans should be asking why this was necessary in 2020.
  3. Injury issues to key players will always have the ability to completely derail our season - we don't have the quality or strength in depth in the squad and never will have with our current budget.
  4. The loss of key players to other clubs will likewise have the ability to derail us.
  5. Statistically our play in between both boxes is still working, it's those key areas that need addressing. We have had gilt edge chances in all games, even one we played with ten men. We will likely go down if this isn't addressed, but it has zero to do with tactics. It is a fundamental lack of quality in key areas.
  6. If we go down breaking Derby's points record, Wilder should be the SUFC manager next season, and we should consider ourselves extremely lucky to have him.
  7. The Prince doesn't have the necessary moolah to run SUFC. I can only see this becoming more apparent if/when we go down under his stewardship.

I think there’s a large dollop of perspective required. There seems to be far too many people on here, who’s actual day to day happiness is disproportionately dependent on Utd being a successful and competitive Premier League team, who actually let our most recent result cloud any enjoyment gleaned from other aspects of life.

Obviously, we all want to win, we all want to support and enjoy watching great performances week in and week out. But I think some people need a reality check, success in the Premier League is due to financial clout, which is something we don’t have and until we do it is unlikely that we will ever be dining at the top table.

Chris Wilder and Alan Knill have performed miracles to get us where we are, but no one is entitled to success, some buy it and others like Utd have to work hard for it and out manoeuvre the teams around us.

There will be good times and bad, but whatever happens, I know I will always support United, irrespective of their fortunes. But, myself and the people I care, for were no healthier or wealthier, when we were in the Premier League top six than when we were when we were in League two, three or four. Everyone on this forum wants us to win the Premier League, Champions League and FA Cup, but if we don’t, you wont lose your job, you wont get evicted and you wont be struck down with some life threatening disease, as a consequence.

Remember what is really important in life, everyone wants the same thing, but have different ideas about how we get there, just don’t get so angry about it FFS, you can’t change a thing about our future on a forum. Lets face it, anyone over the age of four, who has been wholly reliant on Uniteds success to determine their everyday happiness, has had a bloody miserable existence.

Someday you will realise, that if you and your loved ones are healthy, that really is all that matters in life.

I remember Don Givens'missed penalty as I were there. And if anyone asks who? Then you really should not be supporting this wonderful wonderful club!
Yes I remember it well, asking my dad what was happening for the penalty as he was effing and Jeff it, we were stood right behind Martin Peters, who kicked over a metal bucket of water ( from memory). Never forget the caged tunnel on John street either, it was like a different world to a young kid and then the pitch invasion fighting started...

no matter what we ain’t facing relegation to Division 4 (league 2) just yet although some on here will predict it for season 2023-24 we will find ourselves playing in league 2

Correct...worrying times. I'd forgotten what that felt like. I want the good times back, please...that's all, continue with the melt downs.

Thank f#ck McCabe is a distant memory then, hey?

Perspective is what is needed. I was pissed off when leeds scored, turned the game off, came on here and bitched that relegation was nailed on. Looking back, we played bloody well and were unlucky not to beat the dirties. Robbed against villa with the daft sending off. Once we get a win on the board we'll kick on
