A good goalkeeper is worth 10pts a season

A good man these days is hard to find
Simon Moore, the vocal, authoritative, top-class shot-stopping kind...

The save was incredible. As good as Billy's first vs Oldham and potentially more valuable.

I disagree with the OP. A good goalie - like Moore - is worth far more than ten points over a season. It's always difficult to compare saves made = points won to goals scored = points won but, in the last three home games, Moore has made three brilliant saves - all at the Bramall Lane end and all with the score at 0-0. Dec. 10 v Swindon and very early on, Moore saved low to his left from Rossi-Branco. 26th Dec. v Oldham and Moore flew high to his left to claw a shot from Ryan Flynn away after 8 minutes and last Saturday v. Northampton was probably the best - and most important save. On 82 minutes, a Taylor free-kick was superbly saved with the score at 0-0. Not only had Northampton defended well, United's ponderous build-up play would have likely seen us unable to equalise, let alone win, as Northampton would have packed their defence and waste time.

Always difficult when you're stood with arms folded for almost the entire game, so well done. Excellent save

File this under 'The more I practice, the luckier I get.' A modern goalie does so much more than make saves. Hew communicates with and marshalls his defence (one of Long's major failings). World class 'keepers like Neuer have mastered the art of 'sweeper-keeper' and the top PL goalies (de Gea, Thibaut Courtois etc.) and commanding and employ 'ice hockey goalie' tactics where they make extensive use of their feet to make saves.

I don't know what younger fans would have made of one of our 'legends' Alan Hodgkinson. Ridiculously small at 5' 7", Hodgy would regularly 'flap' at crosses and palm it to attackers waiting on the edge of the area.

Did anyone see Hull v Everton the previous night? Robert Snodgrass hit the bar with a free kick and then had another go and scored, but the Everton goalie was nowhere near the first shot and failed to save the second even though he got a big hand to it. Players have become so good at free kicks that you almost expect a goal these days, but one of the reasons for that is that goalkeepers repeatedly either just stand there and watch them go in or leave it too late to move.

The shot was a beauty. From the Shoreham end it was definitely going in the top corner, just beneath the bar and just inside the post. Everton's goalkeeper would have let it in; most goalkeepers would have let it in. Simon Moore's save was terrific; just touching the ball would have been an achievement, but to flip it over the bar was sensational.

This comparison isn't going to go down well but; Moore reminds me, in stature and his goalkeeping attributes, of a young Chris Woods who was a very good goalkeeper. Commanding in the air, Positionally aware and a leader at the back.

Let's just hope he turns up to the Derby Games more like Kevin Pressman!

I agree that he's looked good for the most part and I like the way he commands the area and is very vocal but let's not get carried away. He's probably had 10 shots to deal with in the last 2 months and you could argue he should have done better with a couple of goals against earlier on. This isn't a dig, you can only do what you have to do in that position and he's doing it well at the moment, just saying there will be busier times for him and only then will we know how good he is.

Things can change very quickly, just ask our double penalty saving play-off keeper :(
