Just watching the 92/93 season review and noticed we played Liverpool at Anfield on the 19th august losing 1-2 (Deane) but the we played them at home less than a month later winning 1-0 (littlejohn)
Anyone an idea why both games were so close together? I thought traditionally/usually you played everyone once before Christmas and then again after obviously they’ll be exceptions for rearranged fixtures but I’ve never known a home and away league fixtures placed so close together.

The fixture list only became so formulaic recently

We played them 4 times in 4 months at the start of 92/93, as we also drew them in the Coca-Cola Cup, and 6 times in the calendar year of 1992 as both 91/92 meetings came after the turn of the year.

I attended the game we won 1-0 and Littlejohn scored, I remember it well.

We played Liverpool in August 25th and 1st Sept 1965 also twice against Charlton in August 1969

There always seemed to be one team that you played close together. Didn't we play Man City twice close together in the first Prem season under Wilder? And off the top of my head Millwall in the Warnock promotion season???

I know we played them twice before Christmas in the 1990/91 season..First game and again before we had won our first game against forest
