As an extra note on this, Grim Up North Retro ( https://www.gunretro.com/category/sheffield-united-fc ) were doing a new Woody version of that shirt.

They are also doing the seldom seen but still decent 'Cantors' yellow shirt.

As lovely as that shirt is, I'm longing for a proper Yellow away shirt. Not fluorescent, just proper yellow with red trim..

Bought a retro replica of the middle one a few months back. Not cheap but excellent quality.

I now have all three of my favourite away shirts in my time watching us.

Banana kit from 81/82 - had an original as a little kid but bought a Toffs retro about 10 years ago (not the best quality tbf)
Yellow shadow stripes from about 86/87 - again had an original as a teenager
Illuminous 90 promotion shirt - still got my original which is in unbelievable nick and fits me better now than it did then

When did we wear that Cantors yellow one?

Wasn't it established on here on here at some point that it never actually existed? I think the only photo in the public domain is a sepia toned one of Tony Kenworthy(?) in a white away kit that looks like it could be yellow.

Can believe that because I dont remember it although my first memories are from about 1980.

I've asked 3 older fans about it since I saw it on that site a while ago and they dont remember it either.

I think there is a photo Silent Blade will confirm of United playing away at Brentford at the time, and they definitely wore the all yellow kit on that night. In fact I've found it.

Saw this on Twitter today and it took me back to the 70s.
Who would vote for this being the design for the away shirt next season?

the Twitter thread also goes on to talk about the club badge. The Sheffield cost of arms being introduced in 1977 by the then manager Jimmy Sirrel - from a design created 20 years earlier by former player Jimmy Hagan.
Anyone know if this is true?
I’m guessing our resident memory master Silent Blade might provide us some insight.

No I think the c
Not me.
I'd rather have the 93-95 shirt.

Just to back up what some have said, I can't remember them ever wearing that away shirt, I had the same one in white but never seen the yellow one. That's not to say it wasn't ever used at some point.

I never saw it for sale. I remember that season they played a pre-season friendly locally and they wore the all yellow kit then. Also see above for the Brentford game that season.

Bloody Thunderbirds shirt - stripes all haywire - clearly upset the footballing deity.

Great away kit in the OP but can't we have it with orange sash instead of red ;)

Is the first photo Cliff Calvert on the near post and goalkeeper Jim Grady Brown in the background, and wasn't that the away kit from the dreadful 75-76 rock-bottom relegation season? I liked the one the season after yellow, with the black diagonal lines at the top.

From reading the history books the original design for the current badge was indeed a Hagan original and then picked up by Squirrel in the mid 70s to replace the Sheffield coat of arms badge. And the reason we had to drop the coat of arms? The powers that be in Sheffield took offence at United selling replica shirts with the city's motif on it.
Yes, Cliff in the first image

Just seen this on the cover of a book. Not sure what kind of figure it is. Obviously not Subbuteo...and also before my time!

This is Sheffield United.

Which of course means that the only acceptable away kit is one that has radioactive luminous yellow shite all over it.

Go along with the striped shirt, class but the away one dump the Germanic design replace with the bands from the 1975-76 away shirt, jobs a good'un.View attachment 69277
think first time we wore that in 75 was 3rd match of season and we got hammered 5 - 1 at old trafford just hope we ditch the red socks for all kits next season got to be white or at a push black but not red again

Wow, that was a while ago.
Never too old to expand knowledge, especially about the Blades, respect young man.;)

Chris Guthrie scored the consolation goal. And it was on MOTD. The shirts still looked mint though. 'Yeah you've just beaten us 5-1 but look how classy we look. Don't ya wish your away kit was class like this? Don'tcha? Don'tcha?' etc

People are obsessed with fluorescent away kits, despite the fact that all ours have all been rubbish since the 89-91 original. That one is indeed up there with the greatest kits ever, and is easily my top Blades kit, but has led to some sort of mass mental block of fluo = great.

Some of the absolute beauties posted above did terribly in this:

I disagree. The 2018-19 one was great. No messing about with loads trim. It was also the correct colour, not too green.

It looked better coupled with Black shorts rather than Fluorescent:

To me, it just looked like some generic gear that a runner or cyclist would wear, with our sponsor and badge ironed on. Easily the best of a bad bunch (the early 00s ones are particularly awful), but I think probably elevated a fair bit in everyone’s mind by the quality of players and results when worn.
