I had a bet with an Arsenal supporting friend in March that in 6 years we would be above Arsenal in the table. He laughed gladly accepted the bet. Last week he wasn’t laughing quite as much and actually felt that I had conned him in some way.
The odds are still heavily stacked in his favor but it is not impossible.
Who else has made some crazy Blades related bets recently that don’t look quite as crazy now?
Will there be any major changes in the ‘football hierarchy ‘ in the coming years and who?

You took that bet on at even money?

When you say 'above Arsenal in the table' does this mean finishing above them at the end of the season or just being above them for one week/day/hour etc? If it's the latter then it's not a bad bet!!

Last Halloween I had a bet with 2 pigs that we’d be above them this time next year, I’ve never looked forward to a Facebook memory coming round so much.

Arsenal made £45M profit on a turnover of £424M last season with a wage bill of £200M. I know we’ve gone up a division but I think our last reported turnover was about £11M.

It’s hard to see us ever competing against that never mind in 6 years.

I have an acca of (all four division winners)

Man U
Blades
Shrewsbury
Exeter

We were 33/1 to win league at the time, about 7/1 now I think.

Man U looking a bit doubtful now (8 points behind Citeh) but rest doing ok.

Pays out at (holds breath) 65K

Being above them on the date of the bet, so about February time. Arsenal normally collapse around this time of the season

Careful. You’ll be accused of doffing your cap by someone. Of course we can be bigger than Arsenal.

When we went up from the old 3rd division under Bassett, I bet my piggy mate that the following season we'd go up again, back to back, and Wednesday would go down and we'd replace them.

Oh the laughter that followed.

Weren't laughing on May 5th though.

I had:

Man Utd
Aston Villa
Blackburn
Coventry

£1 on at 5.8k/1. Current cash out is 12p. I'm gonna let it run a bit longer

Can I have that bet too?

Two weeks without a match and this thread has us above Arsenal in the league, another has Chris "The New Brian Clough" Wilder guiding us to European glory. Bloody international break.

BET ANY OWL THEY WONT GO UP
no team lower than 10th has won a play of since it changed to its current name

3 of last 4 years top 4 at this stage has provided 3 going up
norwich 10th were only 2 points off 5th

Two pigs had me a bet that they’d finish above us this season, I stand to win £50 of each of them.

It was a crazy bet for them at the time and it seems an even crazier bet from the muppets now! :)

Wolves have spent 50-odd million on players alone, which is about 5 times the £11m it costs to run our club and I wouldn't shy away from a bet to finish above them.

If we go up our turnover will be in the region of £80m which is, coincidentally, 5 times less than the Arsenal figure.

So, the bet might not be as crazy as you think!

I might be wrong but I don't think any team has ever got in the play-offs in three consecutive seasons either.

Not in the second tier anyway.

I think it would be more than that. You get £100m for finishing bottom, which I wouldn't expect us to do.

Pre-season, I put my tenner to a Chelsea fan's thirty quid that we'd finish above the pigs.

I've had these since the start of the season with a piggy pal of mine -

£20 Wednesday not to be in top four by end of October - WON

£25 our top scorer scores more than theirs - WINNING

£25 Blades finish 13th or above - WINNING

Daft sod, gotta love pissed up pre season bets.
