That's all it took for Jos to turn Wednesday's '2nd string' into a team capable of shutting us or for 90 minutes.

That's worrying.

United played their game, had possession, were intricate around the corners of the box, were 'entertaining' to a point. However, l fear that if the players can't figure their way around a team that (1) Have never played the system they did last night (2) Is assembled from the 2nd rungs of their squad (3) have only been managed this way for 6 days, then we're in bad shape.

This has been the format for the last hand full of games - overwhelming amounts of possession, chances are coming, but the majority of the build up is predictable, ponderous and lacking in a viable alternative that attacks the center of the box.

Hopefully the new additions, with 6 more days to train with the squad and management, can make a difference. They'll be able to give the team the spark to unlock teams that sit back, because my overriding thought from last night is that it only took 6 days and a 'B' team to shape a group capable of neutralising us.

How is the fact that Pigs have organised in 6 days worrying for us?
Agree that we need to be able to get through this kind of oppo approach, lets see how the new signings alter things.

Worrying because it only took them 6 days and a fresh set of eyes from the manager to get to a point where we couldn't break them down. If it was that easy for them to nullify us, then other teams will continue to do so, as has been the case for the last hand full of games.

There's a lot riding on the hope that the new boys can offer something new.

It's nothing new, Norwich and Bolton did the same and they're more or less as bad as Wednesday.

We got shithoused again, oh well... We're 6th (for a few hours) and we have four bloody exciting new signings to freshen things up.

Poor teams known it's the best chance they have of coming away with something. It's our job to up our game, we haven't found the way yet, but the respect teams are giving us says a fucking lot.

jos?? who is fucking jos?? .. mate of yours?

Limited teams knows how to stop us. It's no coincidence we perform better against the Derbys and Wolves than the Wednesdays and Bolton's. The fact they had so many injuries yesterday meant they were able to set up as they did safe in the knowledge they wouldn't be criticised by their fans for that approach. When we played them at theirs, they were expected to come out and attack us and that helped us as it has in most games this season.

We desperately need to find a way to break down these stubborn and organized teams. We've shown we can match the top teams as recently as Villa and Derby. The next step in our progress is to put away the poorer ones.

When teams like Lithuania play england they go with a back 5 and sit in and try and not move. It’s difficult to break down whatever it is.

Last night SWFC did it with million pound players. They paid money for Fox (£1m) Pudil (£2m) Venancio (rumours of £4m) not sure on Loovens. There defence alone last night cost more than our team.

teams like villa and wolves come out and try to win.. i couldn’t help noticing how out of shape Pudil(?) was when he was taking throw ins as he dried the ball

We lack players who can run at opponents and beat a man. Only Duffy and Brooks can do it consistently - so when they are off form or missing we can struggle. Too much slow sideways passing last night too.

Having said that we have taken 4 points off the pigs which is great and maintains our dominance in league derbies.

It wasn't that Wednesday were that good defensively .we were masters of our own downfall poor passing at times.terrible crosses into the box.sometimes to much wing play. Getting caught by Wendy counter attacking.when ball given away and poor shooting and decision making.

Absolutely spot in SB , I never expected any different from them but we’ve started bringing in different options and personel to counter this , being saying for a while we need a little bit of fortune and an early goal & the park 5he bus merchants will then have to come out and play .we’ll get more open games away from the The Lane and pick more than a few points up on our travels .

We’re still on a learning curve 6th from the top not 6th from the bottom , people need to move their hand back from the panic button .

I am happy that teams are playing like this v us shows how far we have come. That teams come to defend just need a way now to unlock them and we now have players that can do that

Too many people are over analysing this game. Just not the result we were hoping for. Get the new lads up to speed and push on.

TBF, the patterns and symptoms of last night's game aren't just from last nights game, they're from the last 10 games. Wilder is on record as saying it's happening too often to be bad luck.

They need to develope as good a way of breaking down teams that are dug in, as they have of playing against teams that are going for it. I think most people see that and in 100% sure Wilder, Knill and the players see it too.

Ron, I get your point about the last 10 games and agree. I also believe Wilder and Knill have reacted well with the 3, possibly 4 new signings.
Our style of play works well against attacking teams but not against the “park the bus brigade”. When they get to grips with that we may be looking at the top 2 spots in the league.
At the start of the season the opposition thought we were easy pickings, that has changes somewhat now.

Things may be different, however teams set up against us, if the quality of the balls into the box improve. It's was very poor at times last night, and has been for a few games now.

I think they just set up to match us, not do anything silly and make themselves difficult to play through. Had they been playing at anyone else who is at the top end of the table they would probably have set up to match them as well. Their emphasis at the moment is probably to avoid defeat, so that they put together a run of unbeaten matches and build confidence again, whilst their new manager has a good look at them and works out his preferred method of play, or a method that best suits his players.

We lack game changers at the moment.

However.... the signing of Holmes, the return of Brookes and the potential of Wilson might change that

I think the problem is they defended very well but some people refuse to give them any credit at all because they're the pigs so take the view that we couldn't beat them because we were shit.

If Brooks had been available and come on when Loovens was sent off we may well have nicked it.

You're assuming they weren’t capable of keeping us out before 6 days ago. Playing 5 at the back with 2 defensive CM’s makes it a lot easier to keep a clean sheet. They didn’t keep us out in the last Derby but in that game they actually attempted to score themselves.

They weren't, we scored 4.

We looked a limited side last night and Wednesday coped with us comfortably, even with 10 men.
Looks as if we've lost some confidence from only winning one in 10, we looked tired and we've got to hope Wilder's picked the right new additions to kick-start a decent second half of the season.
The danger is the momentum we had going into the season has switched direction and that can be equally hard to stop.

On here at start of season:

“We’ll do amazingly well to finish in the top half, I’ll be happy to stay up. We’ll finish 16th”

Now:

“Moan. Whinge”.
