Blades 5 Cardiff City 1
Probably don't need to say much more. My first season as a Blade and my first big memorable game 43000 there). Looking forward to Sunday being another such day even though we are already champions.

Slightly before my time, I was about 2 at the time ... but was there a pitch invasion that night ? :)

Not sure, but there was on the Saturday and I was one who was straight on at the final whistle

For the Cardiff match there was a mini invasion after the match at the Kop End

For the Watford match it was a big invasion and I will try to post a photo of it this Monday

A special night, everything you would want from a Blades side.

When Bill cut inside and stuck in that early goal, there was the biggest surge ever on the Kop.

Dancing uncontrollably down each step from the top to the bottom.

What a feeling. Still my favourite game at the Lane although the Forest play off game comes very close.

As a law abiding citizen I have to say I hope the miscreants were caught and were suitably punished for their defiance of the rules.

In the same way that motorists who illegally park and or are caught by speed cameras, flouting the laws, deserve justice being served on them by our courts - which of course are staffed by highly paid oops I mean trained public servants.

God save the Queen. I mean it, man

I was on the Kop. Had been bitten by my friends German Shepard just before game. Went straight to A&E to be stitched and tetanus jab.

It was my first season where I'd been a regular at the Lane with my Grandad, my Dad and his brothers, I remember my Dad went but I wasn't allowed as it was a night match, then as now we lived 70 odd miles away.

I wouldn't go to bed until he'd rang up wth the result though, I remember him being very excited about the game, which from him was some accolade believe me, just wish I could have been there with him :(

And it worked. No lockjaw.

The funny thing is that even though the Cardiff game was 'make or break' i was really confident we would win and certain we would be promoted. In contrast, even though we are the best team in the division this season i've been thinking of all the ways we could buggar things up and miss out on promotion.I shouldn't have worried,it is clear the club has got it's mojo back,i feel now like i did on that evening when we battered Cardiff, proud of my team again !!

Great pictures from the 1971 Promotion Special publication!

Can someone post the pic. after the Watford game of Eddie Colquhoun in the director's box - bottle of champers in one hand, fag in the other? I just about remember that 'promotion special'. Part of the text goes summat like 'in the normally-conservative John Street stand, some fans were stamping their feet!' Wot, no pyros?

A few days :(was in confinement in the house after attacking a postman on two occasions. No one told me and I just walk in the kitchen saw dog and leaned forward to pet it. Next thing had my side clamped just above my jeans took my mate and the owner to get him off.

Just re read my post, it should say went straight to A&E straight from game, wasn't going to miss it. The only thing keeping me on my feet was the pressure from the packed Kop made it impossible to fall down

Was there, on Bramall Lane end. Special night and stands out as one of my favourite games at the Lane 46 years later.

That night still burns brightly in my blades history book,we blew Cardiff away just like we have done to our competitors this season

Seems we started our United sentence at roughly the same time. My first game at the ripe old age of 8 was 11 days earlier v Birmingham (3-0 win). Didn't go to the Cardiff game but can remember going to the final game against Watford another 3-0 win.

I was on the terrace that night, at the Kop end amongst the flat caps, brilliant atmosphere even there.

I'm not usually able to remember what I have had for breakfast, but wasn't there a thunderstorm that night?

Also my first season, stood with parents on John Street Terrace, don't think I saw a single goal, I was just 6 years old and can remember only seeing small glimpses of each game I went to that season.

I was a 12 year old and sneaked off to the match on the bus on my own without telling my mum who was mad at me afterwards. My grandad (a pig fan) had always told me the kop was a really rough place with lots of bad lads and no place for a kid so I went on the BL lower tier (as I'd done a few times before with my grandad) with the Cardiff fans. Seem to remember Cardiff were also challenging for promotion so we knew if we got beat we could miss out but it was a very powerful utd performance with a tremendously loud and noisy atmosphere with lots of joyous blades and a party atmosphere later in the game. I had my utd scarf on so got ruffed up by the cardiff fans but nothing serious, it was not unusual for utd fans to mingle with the away fans on the BL lower tier in those days.
