It's a strange transfer window, what with it closing early and the World Cup.

There's just 4 weeks to go until it shuts, and whilst I'm sure matters are progressing behind the scenes, it's not giving us much time to bring in the 5 players we seem to be after. We know how long some deals take to get over the line and as the deadline draws nearer I can't help but get increasingly anxious. We tend to fall foul when it ends up being a mad scramble on deadline day.

I have full confidence in Chris and his team to be after the right targets, I am less confident in the backing he'll get and the uncontrollable outside factors seem more prevalent at this level than in League 1.

Threat level = slightly concerned

CW is very good at getting good players for the budget he is working with.

But will the budget be sufficient to get good players who are good enough to get us up?

With all that is going on at the moment, I really fear not.

If we dont get a few quality recruits, then we will again be asking the current squad to give 110% this coming season, you can only squeeze so much juice out of a bunch of grapes.

I would be worried if anyone else was signing anyone. As it is only about 3 or 4 teams have done any decent business, Wendy are losing players, Villa are shipping everyone out, Bristol have got rid of their two best players.

I know we finished the season in an extremely average fashion but that was part injury related, part being thin in midfield, part being studied and countered by other teams, and part being knackered, we've fattened up in midfield and we'll be fresh and fit for the start, and Wilder and Knill will have got a nice thick play book with some new formations and shit for playing hoofers like Bolton and cheating twats like Norwich.

I want us to get new players in but I'm not in a state of panic about the coming season.

Not sure I agree with that. Most clubs have been doing business, even if it's only really Forest who have thrown cash everywhere. However, we must be one of the few clubs not to lose key players so far. Whilst Brooks was important, he wasn't a starter last season. We'll at least have the benefit of a settled side as things are.

I think we will see a couple in before the end of this month and then see a couple more before our first match, one of which will go to the wire. 2 strikers, CB and a wide player.

Plenty of time.

To be fair I am not overly worried either. Couple of strikers would calm the nerves of some but I don’t mind if we just get quality loans at this point. We haven’t lost any players key to us doing well last year and coutts will be back from October.

I am also think after a full pre season under wilder, that Lunny will benefit most and we will see a good improvement from him. Like him just think he struggled a lot from 60 minutes onwards.

Let’s not get players in for the sake of it

I believe I'm right in saying that he's said he's after:

2 X CF
1 X CB
1 X AM

Whilst I'm not sure he's mentioned it directly, I would also assume he's after a LWB as we have no cover (he seemed disinclined to play Laferty there last season)

Doing business but a lot of frees and £1 million ish fees is what I've seen most, which as we all know isn't much for a lot of championship teams.

I'm not aware of every player people are buying though so maybe there are some good deals being done but I'm not jealous yet.

Henderson
Baldock-Basham-stearman-Oconnell-Stevens
Fleck -Coutts-Evans
Sharp-Clarke

Moore - Freeman -Duffy-Wright- Holmes-Lafferty _leonard- Lundstram.

You think that is a relegation squad ?
Potentially, yes. It only takes a couple of players to get injured and a couple to lose form. Sharpy won’t be playing 46 games this season. Leon shouldn’t be. Stevens dropped off massively.

Personally I’d play Freeman at RWB over Baldock, Fleck on the left where he usually plays and start with Duffy instead of Evans. But that’s just me. I’m not the manager.

I haven’t really seen enough of Holmes to know if he’s any good, Leonard I’m not sure about, hope he comes good, Lunny was OK last season and improved but I see him as still learning. I’m not overly impressed by Lafferty at this level but he didn’t play much so I could be wrong, Wright is getting on a bit and as good as he was in L1, I didn’t rate him last season. He was no more than OK.

It’s a very tight league with fine margins between challenging for the playoffs and fighting a relegation battle, particularly when you haven’t got a Brooks to come on in a tight game and nick the three points for you.

The joys of 'undisclosed fees'.

But we will add to it ,that is just an example of our starting position which is in advance of most of the league.

They key for us this year unlike a lot of clubs losing players is that this squad is tight. The best 11 for me is what got us up. Freeman was a bad miss for us last year because of his goals and assists. Coutts injury hit us hard more on the last 20 mins when we were either winning or drawskng games. He can take the air out of the ball leaving the oppposition less chance at getting at us.

Holmes getting his mojo and confidence back could make all the difference over whoever we haven’t signed so far.

I hope so. The court transcript seems to indicate that we’ve got £4m to spend on transfers and the increased wage bill. Mitchell’s got his work cut out. Of course, Wilder and the staff are usually able to pleasantly surprise us and I hope they continue to do so.

It's an ok sum for transfers, but if you assume that new signings would be on an average of £10k pw, then it only leaves £2 million for signings (if we bring 4 in). Likely that we'll only permanently sign one of two. I have no issues with loan players used correctly, but we'll have the same, if not a bigger, problem next season. I assume that this might be the last season for Clarke, Sharp, Duffy, Wright, Stearman, Holmes.

£10k per week? Seems a bit low. (Well it doesn’t, I’d like to earn that but for a championship player...)

I was erring on the conservative side. I guess it depends what kind of player we sign. If young premiership loans then maybe less. If first team strikers then more. I can't imagine it would average out more than £12k pw.

name 3 games he did just that in, its delussional
he left us with a record of 13 wins with him playing , and 13 defeats
potential yes , game changer , not quite

Im far more excited that Freemans back fit, he delivers

I see you’re on “beige-alert” eh?

I agree with you - it’s late (by Wilders own standards - remember how quick he’s acted before? He doesn’t like fannying about) and it’s concerning.

Wilder will get a couple more in. We’ll thrash a team in a pre season friendly - and the mood will lift enormously. Then, we’ll find out by Christmas that the incoming hasn’t been enough, in terms of quality or quantity. And the focus of anger will be back on the owners, who by then, hopefully, will have settled their little dispute, just in time for us to “consolidate” in the bottom 6.

But didn’t Wilder say this summer it would take longer to get a small number of improved quality players in and it wouldn’t be like the last few transfer windows (with lots of immediate movement)?

Apart from Leeds away, when Brooks came on and scored the winner, I'm struggling to see where he 'came on and nicked 3 points'. He scored a similar, cracking goal at Millwall (where he started the game) but we lost 1-3. His other goal came in a 2-0 home win against Burton.

He started ten games, was substituted five times and came on as sub. 20 times.
