Souttar loss was cataclysmic and will be season defining if not properly replaced.

It's clear he was making everyone around him look great.
Cooper, Gilchrist and Anel all look a lot less confident without him.

Huge week ahead in the transfer window.
Completely agree , I hope the recruitment team are working hard on a good centre half

Everything that we as stupid useless idiots that don't know anything said has come to light, the squad is too thin and our biggest problem will be injuries.
And now we've spent about £15 million in an area where we are pretty strong already

He's an attacking minded midfielder who has practically no adult football experience being expected to learn how to play as a defensive mid with no experience or support or experience around him to help. Of course he's going to sink, anyone would. He's been given absolutely no chance to adapt his game with support because he just happened to be the only one to stay injury free.
He played as a defensive midfielder for the development team last season so I can't agree that he's an attack minded midfielder.

Well 4 losses in a month the boats starting to rock.
Boy did we miss Hamer tonight

Credit to Hull they did everything right

But we helped them a lot with slack passing poor closing down and losing too many one on one battles..
Probably too many changes meant we lacked the understanding we had shown

A dismal night but one we need to bounce back from . We looked panicky at the back and Anel had a mare.the own goal summed up the lack of cohesion.......

Write it off and start again next week
We have put out some awful teams.

Wilder was desperate for centre defenders we have been linked with loads permanently and didn’t sign one.

The gaps in the side are clear as day to see.

Even after the JTW we will be short. Hard to get value for defenders in this window.

Look tonight is a warning shot across the bows.
We can't fuck around anymore, we have got lucky lately with square pegs etc.
Get the players we need in for the next game, we are out of time now. The other 3 teams in the race aren't to drop many points.
17 games left, we need to win 11 of them.
Good post

It was indeed a shot across the bows as you say - spot on - we’ve been papering over the gulf since early Dec and we are starting to sink

Hopefully we have a manager who knows how to address and use the investment support effectively?

It's not what he does with the ball that bothers me, it's what he does off it. Defensively he is positionally awful and does not read the game. It's no surprise tha teams are targetting our right side of midfield, on the wing and through the middle. I don't rate Peck at all. He's young, but he's a headless chicken who runs all over the place except for where he should be.
I think a lot of blades will disagree with you including me

I see Derby signed a striker from Norway this window....Lars-Jorgen Salvesen does not say how much they paid cant see it being a great amount,he scored in his second game (Cardiff away) and was unlucky not to get a second, better get ready for him to score against us then,he is a proper centre forward ( a baby Haland) wth bob.

All your insides fall to pieces
You just sit there wishing we still had Peter Ndlovu..
I’ll never forget listening to the bends for the first time……mind blowing album.
UTB.

Roughly translated as us who moan constantly even when we are winning are totally vindicated when we lose

Right so the month is December plus January and as our previous defeat was in November, it’s actually 4 defeats in 3 months.

I feel better already.
Its 4 weeks 4 losses in 4 weeks which equates to around a month

The team strengthening at the top of the pitch is of course very exciting, but the success of this season was built on a sound, strong defence, and intelligent distribution from the back…So in one fell swoop (Souttar injury)
our defensive brilliance has turned to shit…But still we hear nothing about a potential like for like replacement for the big man…Starting to get a bit worried.

That's fine. No one has to be right. It's all about opinions, after all isn't that the whole point of this forum, to encourage discussions. If everyone agreed all the time the world would be a very dull place.
I think there is a decent player there who looks alot worse with Burrows in midfield with him. They were getting in each other's way. The bigger problem is leadership and how we play. Our pressing was half hearted and Hull hounded us into making mistakes. At our worst we are moving the ball too slow and not seeing options to pass through the centre and then going down the sides.

Souttar has been a big loss defensively. And Vini. The 3 plus 1 up top is frustrating. Brooks doesn't make the runs at times. O'Hare works hard but first touch can mean he loses the ball. When on it he is good.
Friday night we did put in more crosses than usual which O'Hare for the size of him got a few headers. But he was going into positions that Cannon, Campbell, Brewster should be in. Hamer can do magic but we depend too much as a team on sporadic individual brilliance to win games. Hopefully the additions and returning players allows us to play with identifiable patterns. It's been a great season so far but to keep it going we need to be more settled than we have been and get the balance right.

At least 3 of the top 4 will drop points thus weekend. No need to panic, just need to bounce back.
Looks like all 4 as tomorrow is surely a banker draw.

Interesting reading this thread with people trying to organise SU season for them.

There are 17 games to go and Hull City and Plymouth have now cottoned on that if they dont start picking up points - they are going down - hence what you saw at BL and the SOL on Friday and Saturday. the. next team to cotton on that they are headed for League 1 unless they buck their ideas up will be Luton Town. They'll be the next ones pulling off some shock result - and it might come against us/Sunderland next month at the SOL.

Now does a surprise result against these teams have to happen - no it doesn't - but it will take the players and the fans to realise that these teams are not coming to Bramall Lane and the Stadium Of Light to be hammered - just because we are in the top 4. they couldn't care less who we are or where we are - once they get desperate for points and we act all casual like "we only have to turn up to win" then you/we are sunk.

We once played Walsall, 1988/89 season - they hadn't won in about 25 away games and their centre forward Rimmer hadn't score in about a dozen games. We played them at Roker Park and me and my mates were full of "five nils" and "six nils" - never worked out like that. We got hammered 0 v 3 and Rimmer scored a hat trick. Massive lesson learned there like.

All you have to do is look for the warning signs - bottom three or 4, haven't won in ages, centre forward hasn't scored in weeks etc - and you simply get yourself ready for the battle ahead.

No matter how you plan it out it wont stop any of the top 4 getting done by someone they shouldn't in the run in - and for all this shite about "Leeds United are the best team in the division by a. country mile" aye so good that they are a massive 1 point ahead of you lads and 4 points ahead of us - and as far as I can make out they haven't had their bad run yet.

Who knows what the top 2 will be - maybe Sheffield United and Sunderland - and who knows at what point LUFC may or may not implode but there are plenty of twists and turns left yet and I'm sorry to tell you you will be on the end of another surprise result somewhere - its inevitable, as the opposition gets desperate to avoid relegation or get into the play offs.

Just make sure there is none of this "5 nil" shite bandied about and you like us may limit the number of surprise results.

No one gives two hoots about Sheffield United or Sunderland - bar our fans. -and everyone needs to realise that. They aren't coming to be hammered - they are coming to beat you and as the season wears on they'll get more and more desperate to do it as the pressure starts to mount on our teams.

We were never beating Plymouth yesterday - never. I told my son last Tuesday/Wednesday - after burnley had hammered them that all the warning signs were there and nobody had cottoned on.
