4 games on the bounce

I thought this was going to be a conversation about letting players getting their shots off against us. We have gone off the boil and not closing these players down quickly enough all over th field is where we need to get back to. We are currently a second off a good ball or challenge. It’s like suddenly these players are now having to the think about what they are doing.

Going back to the conversation of shooting from 25 yards. Boga was really out of options if he didn’t shoot as was the burton player. It highlights an issue with their syle of play rather than being good play.
I think we're not used to playing against players who can score from those positions. It can happen occasionally in L1 but rarely, in the championship almost every team has a player who can do that, often more than one.

Cause we never shoot! These last 3 games weve spent far too much time messing around with the ball in and around the box. Either get it in the box or shoot!ffs

Yesterday saw a lot of moves outside the central area of the box end up being passed obsessively out to the wings where poor quality, erm, hoofs ended up flying about 6 feet over Billy and Leon's head. Agreed, either play it down the middle or take a shot.

Funny how we always seem to be on the end of these 'worldies' - case in point, that's the Chelsea loan star's first goal this season.

Ryan Sessegnon
Defender Fulham

Had only scored 1 goal this season before playing us..
What were the odds of him having 3 shots on target, let alone goals.
Though it was his 50th game for Fulham so perhaps he was showing off. - TWAT.

He was played as one of a front three though against us
He normally plays left back

Shots from distance are usually taken by players because they either don't have better options or their attack can't get near the opposition box, or they are the sort of players who don't look up and think that the better option is always that they shoot themselves, regardless of how good their position is. The high proportion of long range goals against us suggests that teams are frustrated by us and are resorting to long range efforts - although a part of the solid defence in the box could be leading to gaps further out - and the lack of long range efforts from our attack suggests that our attackers always have better options, look up and unselfishly play teammates in.
I've often sat watching a game and said "that's alright, they can shoot from there all day long". Of course the odd screamer will go in, but overall this statistic indicates a good strategy both at the front and the back that we shouldn't want to change off a the back of a couple of opposition goals against us.

But how many of those shots were deflected back creating another chance, spilled by the keeper creating an opportunity or knocked out for a corner? I'm not expecting you to have an accurate answer just suggesting there's more to it than just the long effort going in.

I don’t have exact stats on that, but you’re more likely to get counter attacked from your own shot from distance than you are any of the above happening.

Yeah there are flukes that may come from a deflection, block, bounce - but then you’re putting your attacking strategy in the hands of randomness and luck. I’d rather be in as much control as possible and play intelligently. A team will create more chances and score more goals over the course of the season.

I’d also go as far as saying that had Eriksen probably made a better decision than shooting from outside the box 70+ times last season then spurs may have won the league!

The only two long range attempts today were from Lundstram and O'Connell. The less said about those ones the better.

Was the Lundstram one the one where the keeper dived to his right to turn the shot past the post?
