On the assumption that CW intends to play 4-4-2 in the play-offs, what do you think the line-up will be?

Presumably in defence:
Seriki - Holding - Anel - Burrows

Up front:
Moore - Campbell

In central midfield:
Souza - Peck

But which two from Hamer, O'Hare, BBD, Brooks, JRS and Brewster on the (notional) wings?

And what about Hamza?

He might well play Choudhury at RB.

He will play Hamer on the left & probably BBD on the right (although it wouldn’t surprise me to see Brewster there).

----------------------Cooper
Choudhury-Holding-Anel-Burrows
-------------Souza-----------Peck
----O'Hare------------------------Hamer
-----------Moore-----Campbell

Gone for a more narrow 4-4-2 (like a 4-2-2-2) where O'Hare and Hamer play more like 2 CAM's to link the play rather than wingers.

Choudhury is defensively better than Seriki, he starts for me and Seriki would come on later against tired defenders.

I've said this a few times, but if we turn up to the play-offs with a £75m squad playing 4-4-2 long ball to Keiffer Moore like it's still 1998, we'll deserve Championship football next year.

Absolutely spot on, but sadly I think it's looked more effective then most of the 43 games beforehand. Do whatever you can to get other the line and address it later.

To be honest I'm not too sure I want us to go up this season at all...:tumbleweed:
I don't want us to be under the kind of pressure promotion would bring while trying to build a team that could stay in the Prem
In fact I'd say that's the reason most teams come straight back down, with a hefty wage bill and players they can't afford to pay anymore looking for a way out.
Would much prefer they build a team that has time to smooth off the rough edgers in the Championship Like LEEDS have done, and then go up next season.

Sorry but I just couldn't take another season like last, with all those demoralizing defeats. would much rather build in the Championship then with a much stronger team than now and a lot more wins try the Prem for size... ;)

There's a big gulf in quality between Lawal / Burger / Baker and Grimes / Sheaf / Rudoni (assuming it's Coventry). It's a mistake to assume what works against Stoke and bottom of the league Cardiff will work against teams with ability.

Don't care what formation we play as long as we play like they know each other. 40 odd games later from the opener and we still play at times like they just met in the dressing room.
Pick up the pace, pass with conviction, run I to the spaces, win as many second balls as possible and play the full 90+minutes.
I get the last time in the Prem was a horror show but how do we know the new owners won't go spend crazy to make us competitive?
Got to give it a go, I mean a real good go of it.

in theory yes

But problem is we don’t go up, likely hood is we lose Hamer, Vini, Anel
Possibly cooper, Peck, blaster sekiri??

so we’re building just to get a squad, let alone one better than now

Best chance is to go up, keep most if not all above, and with EPL money build on what we have

Building in the Championship would involve replacing several members of the current squad either to improve or to replace those that wish to leave. Will our new owners finance that ?
We are far from guaranteed to go up next season, so go up this season , have a go and collect the money.

I can see you/Sheffield United winning the play off easily.

My team Sunderland are utter shit. We have lost 6 of the last 9 games, lost 4 in a row and have had 1 shot on target over the last 2 games. Embarrassing to watch.

Given that you are miles ahead of us in the league and the other 2 places aren't even sorted yet it will surely take something absolutely catastrophic for you not to win at Wembley and go up.

Thought it worked fairly well Vs Burnley too especially first half.

Do you think it's your manager showing his inexperience in regards to English Football.

That Le Bris might not understand that the best way to get promoted through the playoffs is to go into the semi finals with momentum and in good form, which usually fills your players with confidence to win the semis and go on to win the final.

Form goes out the window in the playoffs. The main difference from other years is that Wilder should have a near fully-fit squad to choose from.

That’s been our speciality on the last 9 occasions from Jail terms and key injuries being two of our preferred modus operendi!

But yes it does feel like there is a general lack of form across the board.

It may be direct but we actually look like we have an idea of what to do with the ball and create dangerous moments more often in this 442 setup. JRS & Choudhury another potential option down the right hand side but think O’Hare’s link play & defensive quality combined with Seriki’s ability to get to the byline would work well, O’Hare was on the right when Brooks came on and set Peck away with a great ball into the right channel. JRS could then feature from the bench when the game gets stretched and they can’t deny him space consistently.

Bit controversial but are we starting to see a new formation starting,4,1 3,2 Choudry appears to be playing just in front of the back 4 and regularly drops in to make a 3 or 5. This also allows the two full backs to push up and make a 5 in midfield,At Stoke Souza played a far more forward role than of late.To start the 3 in the middle would be Souza,Hamer,Peck.

The right hand side looks weak in that set up, especially for the 1st leg. I would suggest Choudhury for the right back role or, if Sereki plays, Brewster in front of him with O'Hare behind Moore or Campbell

Yes, agree in principal but we’re here now and I don’t want to see us fail.

Exactly, we should have had a clear out years go, but stuck with the old guard too long just because they got us promoted, we have some decent lads now,but some will undoubtedly leave if we don't go up, if we do get promoted we have a chance of keeping them, a decent few signings and a better coaching staff could give us a chance of staying up, but time will tell, utb

If we don't go up this season we probably lose Hamer & a couple of others.
To get automatic promotion we would need to finish ahead of 2 of the 3 teams coming down as well as the usual championship contenders. Can we do that?

We are back to the basic questions. Why have these Americans bought us and what do they wish to achieve ?
