I suppose it makes sense with a predominantly white home shirt and then all white away shirt but colours clashes didn't seem to matter in 70s with the winter of discontent, hyper inflation and idi Amin.

Watching TC on this vid made me think Brooksy should play with his shirt out - just for a few minutes in each game. Would bring tears to the eyes of a few of us old timers.

Yes on my birthday. Arsenal were very dirty and were targetting TC. The ref was useless which made my dad call him a twat in front of my mum and my little sister also front of the Arsenal fans in the stand. Brian Kidd scored the only goal from a free kick

We wore gold shirts and black shorts in the 5-1 defeat at Palace in December 1971

Was going to say the same. I don't know if we ever wore the gold shirt again but I remember that game well.

I also was at the Liverpool game in the OP where we played in all blue kit. I thought at the time it seemed wrong. And every kit we've had since then that has featured blue has been wrong imo. Including the current away kit which is technically not blue, but the cheapest horrible shade of purple that one can imagine. Anyone who's bought that must be either a collector of shirts, or have no taste whatsoever. It will go down on record as one of the worst ever away kits - so go buy one now before they sell out maybe?

Yes, he was a Celtic legend but had injury problems. Palace signed him for £100K in October 1971. He stood out for Palace but he still had injury problems and played only 20 games for them

But by all accounts, Johnstone was one of the highlights of the 75-76 season despite only playing 11 (was it?) matches. To be fair, we were utter wank but he's held in far higher regard than say, Phil Thompson or Ian Rush.

Being the saddo that I am, I have done a bit of internet based research and I spotted this shirt on Steve 'Charlie-Charles' Charles in April 1981 against Brentford. Looks like we had just bought from a sports shop as no hobott badge, no Blades badge or sponsor. Understand why as our home and white away would clash. Maybe Grenville of Brentford (can someone link to his profile) has a colour picture of bobby booker playing against the Blades in 81 ! So I don't believe that hobott yellow picture kindly provided by Berks.

Exactly. It was a joke

Normally teams would borrow the home side's away kit in those days- I know we had to (including for MOTD in the days they used to show football from all four divisions)- but now teams are bringing out third, fourth, even fifth kits to rob fans and prevent potential sartorial disasters.

I genuinely don’t think there is a way of telling whether that kit is white or yellow from that photo. I think both colours would appear the same in any black and white photo.

So, with that in mind, has any further evidence come to light to which could prove/disprove this mythical yellow Hobott kit?

I think this was the game, played on a Monday night, when a Brentford fan unfortunately collapsed and passed away outside the ground, after the final whistle.
I'm pretty sure we won,Micky Speight got sent off for fighting, the kit was white, and the United coaches got turned back(some reached Leicester Forest services)to be questioned by the Police.At first the Police were treating it as a murder, but it was found later that the gentleman had died of natural causes.
