3rd kit in the seventies

United wearing (I think) an all BLUE kit in 1975 away to Liverpool !

So

1) was this a third shirt as I thought the away was all white ?
2) why didn't we wear white against Liverpool ?
3) why blue !!!! Still hate any blue united shirts!
4) how often did we wear this shirt instead of white away - Stoke, arsenal, Southampton, Sunderland... Although less fussy about shirt clashes in those days

.... And was it available in the club shop after a petition from supporters !

I think it was our second kit for the 1974-75 season. The first time I was aware of the all blue shirt was my dad's letter to me in October 1974 (I was at boarding school) which included his match report for the 3-2 defeat at Stoke. He said we were wearing an all blue kit which surprised me. I would think we wore the same kit in the 1-0 defeat at Boro in Boxing Day (my Wendy supporting uncle too me to S6 to see Bolton beat Wendy 2-0). My dad went to the goalless Liverpool match and he said in his match report that we were wearing all blue. The first time I saw us wearing the kit was the 1-0 defeat at Arsenal on my birthday,

Southampton, Sunderland and Man U were in the 2nd division that season

I think it was our second kit for the 1974-75 season. Trying hard to remember the exact colour so I googled and I think it was that colour

As for the reaction? My dad was surprised but I dont think he really made a fuss about it unlike some who wrote to the Green Un

I had an old Topical Times Football Annual from around 1975 ish and there's a colour picture of Billy Dearden in this kit, challenging a Liverpool player.
It's a royal blue colour with the old Sheffield coat of arms badge on it. I never saw it in person as I was too young to travel to away games at 15 years old.

We didn't do replica kits in the club shop till Admiral came along IIRC. This appears to be our standard design by Umbro from 73 to 75.

According to the always-excellent lfchistory.net, this match took place on 15th March 1975, if the year you've given is indeed correct. Fun fact: piggy Waddle's cousin Alan came on as a late sub for the mickeys.

I also saw us play in all blue at Anfield. As I recall it was more a 'pig blue' than navy.

I have clearer recollections of us ,a group of 15 year olds , being set upon by those loveable Scouse rogues after the match, as they proceeded to steal watches, and even shoes from one of my mates. I've hated the cunts ever since.

Memory playing tricks again.

Just about through most of the 60s and 70s we wore white shirts trimmed with red as a change kit. Don't recall the blue one at all, in fact the first deviation from white I remember was the Admiral yellow chevron kit. Later there was an all yellow kit from Hobott, but can't remember if that was the actual change kit or an alternative.

As far as bl*e kits go, the 93-94 Umbro one with the sash was pretty nice, though it caused a bit of a stink. Clearly none of those complaining had witnessed the pig blue kit we'd played in less than twenty years earlier!

Agreed, I'm incensed that we played in pig blue and it was 40 odd years ago. This season's Purple is bad enough and that umbro one was too blue too.

I was a part timer from 1979 to 1987. Can remember the Cantor white one but not the yellow one. Can remember the yellow one in the mid 1980s
