Inspired by the current thread on yesterdays gate, and subsequent propaganda on porktalk, I decided to take a look at the number of 30K+ attendances for both clubs in the 20 seasons since 1998-1999.

Note, this includes 2 season in the Prem for them and 1 for us. 6 seasons in the third tier for us and 3 for them. This also includes Cup and Play Off games.

Very close overall, and would probably be equal if we had a slightly bigger ground which allowed bigger away followings.

Totals: Pigs 28 games with 30K+ crowds. Blades 23 games with 30K+ crowds.

Nice to see our average attendance is marginally better than theirs this season, seeing as though they like to play on this so much.

Very little in it but never the less nice, even more so considering they have had the home derby fixture too!

They've also had the home game against Leeds.

Eight of the pigs 30k attendances were against us. So yeah, that kinda proves that they only turn up when they play the big clubs.

Very little in it but never the less nice, even more so considering they have had the home derby fixture too!

To add balance to this, you have to say that we are having a great season and them a poor one, they are also getting charged a lot more than we do.

I think in terms of crowds they do get more than us both home and away but the gap is not as big as they like to believe and if we get to the premier league before they do we could overtake them.

So if you remove the derby matches from the equation, we have both had the same amount of 30k plus crowds in the last 20 years...........

Sort of explodes their myth!

Think Saturday might be another one for us if Bolton actually sold some tickets! Just bought me and the lad a ticket and there isn't much left to choose from.

Yes, against Newcastle

I believe that was the game where they had a special away kit because their usual one clashed with Newcastle's home kit. Their preferred choice for this "special" kit..............

White with black stripes. Thick fuckers!!

Newcastle played in their blue away kit!!

While it’s nice to read all these stats about gates
I couldn’t care less really how’s many pigs go to the death trap
This is the last stick this season which they can beat us , baring a catastrophic result in the derby game
I’ll leave all this attendance bollox to the pigs
Attention seeking fuckers

One thing I checked on, bearing in mind that porker had basically said how easy it was to get a 30,000 Boxing Day crowd against a big side, was whether or not they'd managed 30,000 on a Boxing Day since getting back up to La Liga.

Of course not. Tried twice, failed twice. Against Birmingham (by anyone's standards, a big club in terms of away following) and Blackpool (who travel well given the opportunity - remember them bringing a very healthy Boxing Day crowd here just a few seasons back).

When you see the list of all the clubs that have averaged 30,000 since 1970 it is incredible they are so widely accepted as massive. Half a century of excuses is going some.

Well it wouldn't have clashed as Newcastle play in black with white stripes

It's a bit petty continually arguing on attendances, who spent more time in the top division etc. The truth is that in recent years many fans of most clubs have been priced out of the game by money men looking to sponge on loyalty. Premiership clubs don't even have to charge their fans and that should tell you something why they still do. Still, we're in a good spot with our pricing structure, but even then the team has to be performing. I have to think twice about renewing STs and suspect many of you are in the same boat.

Only in their own heads. Fans of other clubs just consider them a run
of the milll club, like the majority of us.

No.

At least not in that game.

I couldn't remember if it was the 8 nil but some digging in response to Peter Ndlovu revealed that SWFC did much better in their white and black striped kit:)

In all fairness bud, I couldn't give a you know what about attendances personally. Tough times generally leave the hardcore followers behind anyway and our club are up there with the best in regards to how passionate we are for the club. I guess for me personally, being part of a genuine, passionate fan base is more important that having big attendances (although i'm not sure the board or even all fans will agree).

But out neighbours are a different kettle of fish completely. A larger support base has always been something which they revert to when they don't have bragging rights elsewhere for some bizarre reason.

And well what with the performances on the pitch yet to be desired, what with Carlos spending all like it was burning a whole in his pocket to no avail... and what with them having a fictional kit manufacturer, poorly designed and manufactured kits which arrived several months into the season. I guess this was pretty much the only thing they had left to revert to and regardless of the reasons surrounding to drop in attendances, I feel incredibly warm inside at the minute in light of all of the above.
