30 years....doesn't time fly by in a blink of an eye. Fantastic night and absolutely loved us singing the '3-1...we beat the scum 3-1' in the last minute of injury time when it was all done and dusted, their players were well beaten looked a sorry arsed bunch, and with their fans all squealing and trying to get out of the pig pen as fast as their trotters would let them. Was in the Gate pub that night after drinking in the Penny Black from lunch time before travelling with quite a few well known Blades to the shitzone. Marvellous night - the collective look on their horrified faces when Saint Bobby glanced a header into the bottom corner for our third will keep me smiling when I'm finally laid in my casket. Also the last time I walked into that shit hole. Haven't been back since as couldn't face giving them twats any of my money.
 
Them were the days, we boozed in Malin Bridge then walked across over the housing estate and down Leader Road through the park to the away end, I had a splitting headache and the noise didn't help, but I have never enjoyed a derby game as much as that one..

We can talk about bouncing day, but I fancied us that day, this one was when they were out for revenge and got another lesson from the underdogs...

They always underestimate us, I fucking love that about them..

Blimey, I had just taken my Class A Morse code exam that night at the old stocksbridge college, when I had finnished, rushed out and jumped in the car, put the radio on just in time to hear the third goal go in on radio sheffield on my way home.

This was the first midweek Derby match that occurred after the introduction of all-day drinking in pubs. The result being that It must have been the most alcoholically fuelled atmosphere ever at a football match....it was absolute carnage in the away end........BUT what a day and night!!!!
 
I applied for tickets, but I think the club did a random draw (rather than loyalty points in those days) and I missed out. On the morning of the match, my piggy mate gave me his season ticket for the Kop because he "knew" that we were going to beat them. When Bobby Davison's second goal goes in, you can see my arm go up in celebration behind the goal.

Before the match I had a heated argument with a Blade fan next to me, think it was about which seats were mine and were his. Three minutes in the game Dane opened the scoring, this fan and I were hugging each other even though he was a stranger! :D

Brilliant night, had been getting all sorts of grief from grunters at school in the weeks leading up to it about how they were taking revenge after the match at the Lane. Then the Thursday was glorious, saw a few of them in a queue for a class first thing and just pointed and laughed, they finally had absolutely no comeback.

I recorded the whole radio sheffield comms on tape including praise and grumble after, and used to listen to it back quite often. Bob Jackson commentated on the night and I can remember his comments for the 3rd goal "A lovely, LOVELY pass from John Gannon!"

I was so, so nervous, but then Dane popped up and I remember going bananas and charging downstairs to tell my Dad who was watching Corrie "Whitehouse's scored!".

When they got one back with that jammy deflection I had to turn off for a bit I was so nervous, but I put it back on just in time for the third.

People often forget we should have got a 4th, Hodges had a really good chance late on.

Then watched the ITV extended highlights, and re-watched the entire recording before going to bed buzzing.

Still got a "Silence of the Owls" / "United's Double Whammy" moth eaten t-shirt up in the loft.

One of the greatest memories I have of watching United, and I wasn't even there, envy everyone who was!
 



Was in the The Queens Ground on Middlewood Road from 4:00 pm before the match. Full of bolloxed Blades. Was late getting in, but just in time to see Whitehouse ease crappy Nilsson out of the way, and point to tell Deano where to place it for his tap-in. Leppings lane upper tier then drowning in spunk......

I was at the game, was 15 at the time, I walked down with some mates from school from Parson Cross, there was only a handful of us Blades at Yewlands School and as others have pointed out was pissing down. Halfway down Halifax Road I and my mates were offered £100.00 each for our tickets, but all of us said no.

I stood in the corner pig pen - in the open air and got soaked but didn't give a toss, the walk up Halifax Road after was brilliant!!! I too watched the highlights twice.

Also Hodges - yes, I'm sure he hit post?
 
I was in the North Stand that night. A few pints in a side street pub on Penistone Road ( Masons?) with my Wednesday supporting boss first.
Dane scores earlier on and i jumped up to celebrate, then realised I was in the middle of their stand, looked round and noticed there were plenty of Blades around me and across the whole stand. 2nd went in and there was bedlam on the Kop where a few Blades were celebrating at the front, looked across to their South stand and there were large groups of Blades either celebrating or fighting and there seemed to be even more Blades celebrating in the North... especially towards the away end .I didn't see any trouble in the North but there were that many Blades you felt comfortable

I remember Simon Tracy tumbling into their Kop at one stage and Pearson trying to get their fans to calm down when they were abusing Woods for another mistake.

Not much better than winning a game at the Sty

Still remember going out for a haircut at 10.00 that morning,

Came out of the barbers went straight in the Springvale Pub and stayed there all day, Blades and pigs all having a pint and taking the piss out of each other.

Got stopped going in the Leppings Lane end, the copper said "I hope your pretending to be drunk son"

I said "yes officer just mucking about"
And he let me in

Springvale after the game was absolutely rammed with Blades, none of the Wendy fans came back in
 
I wasn't able to make the home game at the Lane earlier that season so I bust a gut to get a ticket for this one.

A mate called me on the morning of the game to tell me he'd got me a ticket but it would cost me a tenner.

There was just one problem. ...........

Best £10.00 I spent on that shithole until the £42.00 on 24 September 2017.
 
Attended with some mates, North Stand, right next to the kop.
Walked in scarf on (under v large coit).
Vividly remember thinking "this is odd, I seem to recognise some of these faces", well a lot of faces actually.
A few barely hidden red and white scarves on show.
Whitehouse puts the first in ......... the whole section erupted, absolute scenes (as the youngsters would say today).
Loads of scarves, shirts etc. now on show, Wednesday fans incandescent. Blades ripping the piss. Bloody marvellous.
Recall walking through the north stand concourse after the final whistle to a fantastic and extremely loud rendition of "never felt more like swinging a pig".
Best away win ever attended ............... yes, absolutely no doubt.
 
A brilliant night.

Emotions were running high in my family as we were burying my Granddad the morning after. He was a lifelong Blade from Attercliffe and the reason why our family was, and always will be, solid red and white. His last home match was the 2-0 home win against them the previous November.

I thanked the Priest after the committal to which he memorably replied - 'I'm just pleased Chris Woods wasn't carrying the coffin.'
