Lincoln, Blackburn and Bolton. All very fortuitous in their own right. Yet people still believe in the process. What is the process?

UTB
Lincoln we deserved to win

Blackburn - draw would have been a fairer result but it could have gone either way - very even

Bolton - agreed we deserved to lose that one.

Didn't think Lincoln was fortunate.
They missed a good chance to take the lead. After that we scored 3 pretty well worked goals actually.

Wasn't dominant. But deserved yeah I'd say so.

Bolton was bizarre and we didn't deserve to win. But spirited and won with a fine Donovan finish.
Blackburn had a 15min spell that somehow won it for us. But again fortunate.

My worry is looking at the sides below us in the league, there are a few I don’t expect to stay down there (Norwich, Wrexham, Burnley, Derby) and if we don’t start getting wins on the board more frequently, we could be in the midst of a relegation dog fight come Christmas.
We will be unfortunately unless the board act soon.

We are going down. Been watching Blades a lot of years and this lot looks lost. Yes owners are shocking but Wilder has lost the plot in recruitment

Lincoln and Portsmouth are two of the worst sides I’ve seen at this level. I couldn’t believe how bad Pompey were 11-10 and even at 2-0 I thought we had a sniff.

They were also shocking, we cancelled each other out in being terrible. Then we scored and won comfortably. Absolutely nothing fortuitous about it.
Take your red tinted glasses off. You reckon Wilder has got the recruitment right? We playing teams off the park and just had bad refs? Since the international break I’ve seen absolutely nothing from us. Recruitment is laughable

What has recruitment got to do with anything I said?

Haha literally every single poster refusing to accept reality, that my friends is the wilder cult although we might scrape enough points to stay up which is fine
I think this is the sole aim this season, stay up.
Final prediction P46
W14
D14
L18
Points 56
Might/ probably stay up just

I was at the game and we scored three good goals against a poor side. No fortune there.
I wouldn’t bother humoring him with a response clearly a WUM. Ref tonight apparently had a good game and we were lucky to win on Saturday despite winning comfortably 3-0.

It's a bottom 8 finish squad, unless some inspired dealings take place in the JTW,that's what I expect.
The thing is,for at least 1 relegation spot, there's always a log jam of clubs up to around 8th bottom who are in that fight to avoid that relegation spot,so at the moment and maybe for all season it will be a battle to avoid getting sucked into it.
This is providing that there will be a couple of teams who will get cut off almost beyond recovery from the turn of the year onwards

It can’t be any worse

I agree with all except the last line.
We saw under Selles it literally can be worse.

Maybe ‘it’s unlikely to be worse’ is a better turn of phrase?

I think it’s a little harsh to pick on last night as a day to pick fault with Wilder.

On one hand I’m not happy he’s effectively doubled down on 4-4-2. After Saturday we’d convinced ourselves that Bamford as a 10 was the new thing and that wingers being used conventionally was another. In the end it feels like he’s doubled down but now has access to some of he injured players.

That being said, “the Referee’s a wanker” has never been more apt. The fact he’s managed to send off three of our players in two games whilst simultaneously missing red card offenses by the opposition in each game invites investigation. Unconscious bias? Incompetence? Cheating? Whichever you file it under its extremely poor and influenced the result both times.

In the end we were spirited and whilst you can pick fault with the winner, fact is tired minds and tired bodies just don’t function as optimally.

It does make Bristol City an important game to take points from.

It’s frustrating the momentum of Saturday stalled due to “the Bastard in the black” but that doesn’t ignore the overall pattern. It’s 40% loss rate and only a 30% win rate. Overall that’s not good enough especially when you supposedly have a top 10 budget even if the make up is unbalanced.

Plus there’s the fact that losses against Pompey mean unlikely wins against the likes of West Ham, Southampton, Millwall, Burnley etc would be needed to offset.

Another reason for 4-3-3 would be the goals from distance we are conceding. Surely having an extra body in there increases the chances of closing down opposition players in that 20-25 yard position that cost us against Stoke City and Portsmouth.

If Wilder really cares about the club he should walk. But he wont because he's a spineless bastard.
He's certainly no Blade with the best interests of the club foremost.
I think he knows that this is for him and having a job in the Championship. If he gets sacked again, which he will at some point, then no Championship club will touch him. The best he can hope for is a League One to take up to the Championship. He's a busted flush at this level.

The circumstances of last night and going down to ten men & the fight we showed to get back into the game were positive.

But let’s be honest we’ve only looked marginally better since the International break, probably helped by the fact we’ve played two poor sides. Pompey are a very limited team who were on the back of failing to get a result against 10 men in their biggest game of the season on Sunday. We had a 10-15 minute spell where we looked dangerous at 0-0 but we were mainly just chucking percentage stuff into the box with very few actual decent crosses and chances created.

I’m just shocked that we seem to have doubled down on the 4-4-2 which gives us no control of games & no protection in midfield. It’s a system which accommodates Cannon & BBD who lets be honest are complete passengers.

Wilder has prioritised the short term with his signings & style, but to justify that we have to start getting the results. I think this squad is painfully average but I don’t think it should be slipping towards the relegation zone. But we’re also in no shape to talk about play offs & promotion, so this short term thinking just seems baffling.

January would now be my biggest concern if Wilder is still here. If I’m Peck, Oné, Seriki or Cooper I’m banging on my agent’s door to get me out of here. Brentford will 100% call Donovan back if they keep seeing BBD & Chong playing instead of him. Then what are we left with? A bunch of overpaid & unfit culture carriers. And God forbid Wilder is allowed to replace any young players we lose and brings in more of the same dross.

It’s October & we pretty much already know the season is another waste. Another 7 months of watching this crap doesn’t bare thinking about.

It’s this isn’t it…

It isn’t just the result of one game or refereeing decisions, top class strikes, teams with bigger budgets, or that we can’t trust certain players or whatever other excuse we give about us losing or being ‘unlucky’.

The ratio and pattern doesn’t lie.

And that pattern and ratio is a result of formation choice, timing and choice of substitutions, team selection, fitness levels, recruitment strategy and the standards and expectations set by the management team… and we simply aren’t good enough in any of those areas.

It wasn’t last season, and despite assurances this season would be different - nothing has changed.

Yes, 3 of our more creative players left, but I don’t accept we didn’t know that would happen or at least anticipate it. Yet no contingency was put in place to replace the creative side of their play. Instead we again brought in more static players with fitness issues, who are at the very end of their careers.

Without doubt, the board are at fault for some of this, but let’s not kid ourselves it’s entirely on them - it isn’t. We are poorly managed on and off the field.

Before I am asked the question of who replaces Wilder, which is becoming as tedious as the fax machine jokes, I have no idea. It’s not my job to scout out managers, it’s the club’s and I’d hope they have either already identified someone or at least brought in someone who can help them identity one.

What I would say is that there are definitely managers out there who are used to working with smaller budgets than ours and with ‘lesser’ quality players than ours and can still assemble a squad of younger, more exciting players who play with the purpose of winning.

I’d even go so far as to say we’ve probably been out played and out thought by some in the last 12 months.

Wilder has been great for us over the years, but that shine dimmed years ago and it isn’t coming back.

Not defending Wilder, but the reason why is that we don't have a pot to piss in, and they were all free (Rothwell nominal fee). None of them, apart from Campbell, are contracted to us beyond next summer. This looks good on the books with no hefty contracts weighing us down and is exactly what you'd expect of the yanks as they prepare to sell the club to the next clown.

90, 86, 89
The minutes we have conceded the losing goal our past three defeats
The Stoke one was a worldie but Wolves and Pompey just succumbing to late pressure, with ten men the latter.
I don’t think we are too far off being a side that’s difficult to beat. Which is what we will need to become to keep ourselves clear of unwanted danger this season.
We certainly aren’t an expressive footballing side and I don’t see how we can become one. In the absence of that, if we can iron out these late goals concedes under pressure I think we should be ok. It will be a long and dull season but perhaps for the best.

I know exactly what you mean.

I don't actually think Langford has a bias. Although he probably doesn't like Wilder after the Charlton game so could be a slight bit there. I just think he's a poor ref.
Well at least on those two matches. That is the investigation for me. Why was his overall performance poor and how often is he missing big moments/decisions and getting the interpretation wrong.

I know as fans we have banged on about Donovan starting in recent weeks but I do think that BBD despite having not a bad game vs Lincoln needs to be benched in the next game. He hasn't impressed since coming back yet.
It would be nice to see pace down both wings with Chong and Donovan and them switching too.
