For me 3 changes needed going forward. 1. Cooper has to start at Norwich. We need a GK who can win us points like Deano used to do. 2. Souttar has to come in for either CB’s. At 6’7” we need his height at both ends of the pitch. 3. And RakSakyi has to start over Brooks. Every good attacking team has to have a pacy winger running at defenders from minute one. Make these changes and keep it for next 6 matches and let them gel! 🙏

Have a feeling McCallum will come in for Burrows

I think Rak Sayki needs time to get match fit. I’d expect him to see more time next time but probably off the bench again

I thought Brooks was one of the better players second half.

Of more concern IMO are the two new full backs who struggled to cope. Made me realise what a loss not having Furious George is.

But it’s very early days. Let’s hope they find their feet quickly.

Can understand Cooper being there but not being involved for 2 reasons.
1. He’s a child product of Plymouth. Not used to playing in front of loud passionate crowds, this is his 1st new club. He’ll have got a feel for it yesterday.
2. More importantly the keeper has to manage the defence and he’s not had time to get to know his defence (he’ll have had the crash course of they’re all crap so it’s on you). Leaving him out this week to get settled into squad makes sense. I remember a keeper (forgot name) we had on loan, straight in against Leeds in cup (I think) and made early mistake. Crowd got on his case and it destroyed his confidence, never played again.

Agree Souter, looks solid and like QPRs No3 Dunne his size causes panic in attack and a brick wall in defence.

Not seen enough of JRS but looked a similar player to Brookes who played well again yesterday so don’t write him off in lieu of JRS

Yep agree with this both young, one not very experienced with the number of league minutes and both not playing their usual position… it’s a worry

Thought Brooks did okay but still needs more end product his dribbling is his strongest asset but if he doesn't use that to create or score more it's pretty toothless. Think he'll start on Saturday but with a more trained up rak saki ready to play for longer

Brooks deserves to keep his place, Rak-Sakyi to come off the bench against Norwich and start against Barnsley

Both fullbacks looked very average yesterday and we still seem unable to play out from the back with the hoof to Moore often the end result.
If Moore gets injured it's difficult to see what the plan would be.
With a relatively strong midfield we ought to be having much more possession of the ball but we didn't.
And we also seemed to crumble pretty easily when faced with a bit of adversity. We shouldn't have a major hangover from last season given all the player changes but there did seem to be a bit of the same negativity as soon as things started to get tough.
All in all, we didn't look like a promotion team.

Burrows was poor yesterday.

I've seen a lot of people saying this, but I thought he had a very decent first half.

Second half, most of the team looked off it, him included, and he absolutely fucked up for their equaliser. But he is new and settling in, and mistakes will happen.

Think Nicky Johns is the loan keeper you're thinking of B56.

I'd argue playing Hamer as a LW hurt us most. Need to change the formation/personnel as it feels a bit like when Scholes used to get plonked on the left for England!

We could have peak Ashley Cole, but if we have zero protection it's going to be a constant source of attack for the opposition.

Like him a lot , but he annoys the hell out of me. Still prone to overplay putting us at risk but he’s getting a lot better at avoiding that failing. He’s now big and strong enough to run at defenders and to beat them, but when he does get into the box he doesn’t seem to think he should shoot. Almost like it’s not his job. Whether that is because he’s schooled by Wilder to look for the pass or he’s no confidence I don’t know. I keep having to tell myself he’s still only a kid, but it would be a pity if he didn’t develop his shooting boots.

Cooper

Anel, Souttar, Robinson, McCallum

Blaster, Souza

Rak-Sakyi, O'Hare, Hamer

Moore.

Brooks maybe wasn't quite a productive as we'd like but he was the only midfielder offering any protection security in the second half. It would be harsh to drop him when Hamer and O'Hare seemingly abdicated all their defensive responsibilities.

Exactly this! I'm not actually sure how you'd fit Hamer and OHare into the same midfield in the current setup. Especially as neither of them seem to have the engine to last for more than 50 mins and neither like tracking runners or dropping back into shape .... We can afford one 'luxury' player, but two seems a bit too cavalier...

We haven't addressed the left side problem in the last 3 years, Burrows did ok first half, they were under the cosh, second half they readjusted and saw the opportunity to attack down the left, Wilder should have seen what we all saw, taken Souza off, having been booked and brought McCallum on at left back moving Burrows in front of him, reverting to 442, then instead of Slimani who offers nothing he had Peck, Sakyi and Brewster as options on the bench

The ground was like a library yesterday.
Did you happen to note which stand the ornithology section was in? I'll be getting my ticket for the Watford game next week and I'm after The Secret Lives of Puffins by Dominic Cousins. I don't want to be sat amongst Romantic Fiction or Cookery or anything like that. Ta

There's a book on "tactical changes when you're not playing well" not been found by the management team yet.

It wasn't a problem for Coventry, so why is it a problem for us. As I touched on in another post, we essentially have two midfields, Arblaster/Souza and Hamer/O'Hare/Brooks. The problem isn't the combination of players, it's that the two midfield combos stopped linking up which allowed QPR to dominate and run right through us. Wilder needs to find a way to make this a midfield 5 and not a midfield 2 and 3. I know that sounds daft as it is a 4-2-3-1 formation, but really this is still a 5 man midfield.

In that case I hope Wilder is spending this week watching old videos of Coventry matches because based on the second half yesterday it looked horrendous.

Thought he look good. Just needs to back himself more, that will come. Looking forward to Brooks and Sekiri on the right.

It was actually a two man midfield as Hamer wasn’t really there. System doesn’t seem to suit his game. Fine going forward and arriving late on the edge of the box for a shot, but defensively? Nah! He’s also never really been a wide man so he wanders back inside. When QPR changed it to sit their three on our two he would have been the first one to come off as he’s too slow.
