2nd appeal for Ched?

Why are so many united fans totally obsessed with Ched Evans? It's getting embarrassing if I'm honest.

How many though? A couple? Ten?

We get a thread like this every so often. Without going into any research on the matter it seems a certain former manager gets far more mentions whether we have a managerial vacancy or not (obviously we usually do).
Former Blades will get a mention when they are in the news. I'd find it strange if it were any other way to be honest.

Yet another boring, Ched Thread....leave it FFS! It's done!

Legally yes it is, despite the no doubt Herculean efforts of the 'new legal team'. The Ched story has, however, not yet, I suspect, run its course...........

Worth another go at an appeal perhaps but surely he would have had one accepted by now if anything new had come to light. Like Darren says he will be out soon regardless plus he might do better trying to clear his name once he is out.

Ive not posted on this topic before. And I'm not sure that it's best to now. I'm not obsessed by Ched Evans. I wish he'd never played for us. I have though paid more attention to the case because he did. I've never before appreciated a situation like this (thankfully) where it's entirely plausible that neither party was lying..I can't imagine how I'd feel if it involved someone I knew and cared for, on either side..It's horrible..I think I understand how the only basis for a succesful appeal would have to involve such highly unlikely new evidence like the complainant stating or being heard to say she knew what she was doing

Yes its another Ched thread. Get over it. You don't have to read / respond.

Its a VERY sore subject for obvious reasons. Chances are if Ched had not gone down, we would be a championship club, rather than looking over the shoulder at Div 4 !

So the subject will continue to be controversial even after Ched gets out.

For what its worth, and having looked at the Ched site and other evidence in the public domain to try and gain some perspective of the case, I don't believe that any rational human being could reach the conclusion that was in fact reached. It's as big a miscarriage of justice as you will ever see.

I know this view is shared among many Blades, but yet its still controversial. Its equally controversial to have the view that "Ched dun it". So where ever you sit on this, its controversial, which makes it such a regular topic.

I'm sorry you do realise the Ched site was set up by his Girlfriend and is biased as hell. One of the sections on the site is "Ched and the seagulls" where Ched is seen throwing chips for the seagulls and by some weird logic this makes it less likely that he raped someone. Also it.makes no mention that Ched was going around Rhyl trying to pick up girls even though he had a girlfriend at the time. It also uses some tweets from the victim that are taken out of context and used to show the victim as someone crying rape for some quick dosh. If the Ched site said the Pope was catholic i'd fly to Rome and ask him myself.

I am aware of who set up the site.

I am also aware that the site was never going to include anything that might even remotely suggest Ched had been a daft lad.

Just think that based on all the evidence, the conviction, which has to be beyond a reasonable doubt, is about as dubious as a £4 note.

I know that his conviction was a funny one that could of gone either way. Especially as one of the defendants was cleared. I think I just stand in the guilty camp. 12 people just like you and me sat through the entire trial listened to the arguments in great deal and came to a judgement. Anyway he'll be out in just under year and he should be moving to open prison soon.

The girl looks reasonably in control in the video. There are probably not many on this site who haven't been with a girl who is at least as drunk as that, and if going round trying to pick up girls makes you a rapist that just about includes all the rest

He was trying to pick up girls while he was in a committed relationship with his girlfriend this makes him more of a predator and shows his lack of morals. This makes it a lot easier to believe that he would rape a girl who is drunk and unable to consent.

Also the clips (that were chosen for the website) show the girl in control but most of the drinking happened in the hotel room itself so they are sort of irrelevant.

I wish him all the best with it and hope he wins his appeal.

The evidence provided on the internet, or the evidence provided in court?
A jury found him guilty seeing unbiased evidence put before them with both sides having equal chance to put their case across. The "evidence" that site claimes to have wasn't submitted in the court case, I'd say highly likely to be for a good reason.

Using that argument, every married man who cheats on his wife is a potential rapist.

Nope. Just saying that it shows a total lack of respect for his girlfriend and for women as a whole. This makes it easier to believe that he would actually rape someone.

Really? We're in no position to judge Ched Evans' relationship with his missus and what they deemed moral.

The jury's verdict that Evans had sex without consent is what concerns me. Not that he had sex with a woman who wasn't his girlfriend.

I still think that the North Wales jury reached its verdict on moral rather than legal grounds. I don't believe, given the evidence reported, that anyone could have decided anything, guilt or innocence, Beyond Reasonable Doubt.

No it didn't. The whole episode took place 10 mins after they entered the room. How many Premier Inns have you stayed at have had a minibar?

There was no evidence that there was drinking going on in the room. The complainant couldn't remember anything about what went on in the room and CE said there was no drinking. There was therefore no evidential basis for the jury to conclude that more drinking went on in the room. The judge would have told the jury that it was completely impermissible to speculate that more drinking went on in the room when there was no evidence of that

It follows that the only evidence the jury had about how much she drunk was based on what she said, what other witnesses said about her state and the video evidence.

I have said this about eight million times, but, on the evidence that I am aware of, I would not have convicted him. However, the jury saw and heard all the evidence, had a chance to assess all the witnesses and they reached a verdict of guilty. The Court of Appeal then found that verdict to be safe. As I say, unless stunning new evidence comes up that won't change.

Indeed. I am not monogamous. I have sex with people other than my primary partner (and so does she). Does that make me more likely to rape someone?

General legal point, Darren. I've often seen films where a barrister goes a bit off-piste to prove a point. The opposition objects and the judge says 'Upheld. The jury are not to take heed of that last point.'

But in reality, they will, surely? The seed has been planted and, unless the jurors are busy Tweeting or haven't a basic grasp of English, they will have heard and considered the point.
