Blimey. Was it really a quarter of a century since I was last at the pig sty with an enormous smile on my face watching us give it to em reight and belting out '3-1 we beat the scum 3-1' on St Bobby Davison day.

Loved that match and watching the arrogants get a mauling. Haven't set foot in the piggery since and probably never will again as I despise the place.

25 years....was with one of the lads that night who is no longer with us :( Doesnt time go by in the blink of an eye....

Was in the south stand that night. Couldn't help but celebrate when Whitehouse scored...quickly sat down again then realised there were Blades all around me. One of the best nights ever

That 3rd goal is far better the more you watch it.

Bobby, Bobby, Bobby Davison.... what a great night that was.

Hadn't realised until watching this again just now that the first 2 goals came from Tracey's distribution.

A modern goalkeeper that lad . Well before his time:D

Expect that result next season if the pigs do not go up .

That Dane Whitehouse one-fist salute to the fans should be the compulsory celebration when scoring against the filth. He did it in both games that season.

Did the same in the North Stand. Blades everywhere that night and it was kicking off a bit at the end.

Happy St Bobby Day to all Blades!

Their Kop was still a standing area back then and I was on it, directly behind the goal, about a third of the way back, on my own. I'd debated with myself whether or not to celebrate if we scored but I couldn't resist when that Whitehouse goal went in so early. There were plenty of United fans jumping around down at the front but I was pretty isolated. Although I got plenty of dirty looks I didn't feel at all threatened at that stage but when the second one went in I decided to move and for the rest of the match joined a small knot of Blades supervised by some bobbies over to the left as viewed from the pitch. King's deflected goal had us worried for a bit but Davison's second killed Wednesday off and the rest of the game passed in a haze of happiness. The only thing that could have improved it would have been Hodges sticking away that golden chance after Woods - a nervous wreck by then - had dived over the ball. We were pissing ourselves as the Wednesday fans booed Woods with Pearson appealing to them to stop.

As I walked back over Wadsley Bridge to the car afterwards a little kid in a blue and white scarf was telling his dad that he couldn't face going to school the following morning.

I knew quite a few pigs in those days and there was a bit more mutual respect. Yeah, we were rivals but they rarely tried to mock. On their day, they played some nice football and they did finish above us in the league but we showed them for what they were, a bit soft. And pigs are Yorkshire too, we don't like soft, they knew it, we knew it.
They might have had technically good players but we had players who really cared.

A magic night in the rain ( heavy drizzle ). Next home game some enterprising blokes were selling T-shirts round the Lane. They had a picture of Chris Woods on the front, together with the accompanying text " If Woods can play for England so can I ". Must have made a good few quid.

Is there a video with the actual ITV commentary from the night? (John Helm I think) the horrible commentary dubbed on weeks later kills the atmosphere on this copy.

Haven't you got enough likes already?

I was 21 at the time, I'd been to the game at the Lane which was brilliant but I didn't go to away games as a rule because I thought I jinxed us. I think at that point I'd probably been to half a dozen away games and we'd lost the lot!

My girlfriends dad worked for both clubs at the time and he asked me if I wanted to go to Swillsboro for free and I turned it down because I didn't want us lose! I couldn't even bring myself to listen on the radio until half-time.

25 years!!! My god. What a match, just look at the thousands they gave us, we won't ever get that many again. Blades all over Swillsborough, we were sat to the left of the away end, looking at it from the pitch. About six of us sat together, and we went mental when Whitehouse scored. Was expecting a scuffle straight away only to realise there was loads more Blades around us!!! Anyway at halftime we took up a Pigs request to meet up. And there we stood, Bold as Brass singing "we beat the scum 2 - 0, we beat the scum 2 - 0 " their arses dropped and trotted back in to sit down. Mind you there was some nasty looking bastards amongst us that night so I don't blame them, ha ha good times.

29 years (the original post was four years ago). Some fantastic memories of that night. Tickets for the away end were done via a ballot, and my dad and I missed out. I was lucky in that, on the day of the game, one of my SWFC mates said that I could have his Kop season ticket for the game as he knew they were going to lose. I snapped his hand off! One of my trivial claims to fame is that you can just see my arm go up in celebration as the third goal (Bobby's second) goes in - I probably had the best view in the whole ground. Probably my favourite ever game.

Just seen this wow, I was 11 remember it clear as day piss wet through
Ohhhhh Bobby Bobby !!!!!!
Bobby Bobby Bobby Bobby Davison fucking great night, it beats Notts Forest just
Wow what a feeling that was and I have that forever UTB

Sat in the lower South Stand amongst a mixture of pig fans and as many Blades. Piss wet through but probably the best away experience I've ever had.
Couldnt get tickets in the draw so sent the mother in law down to the Sty to queue up. Surprised she got the tickets because when they asked her where she wanted to sit she said 'as near as the United fans as possible'.
