Only three of those increased their over-20 tally in the following season too, Pace being the last. Sharp's on course to join them.

Not bad for a player that many felt would decline year-after-year when we re-signed him, due to his age...

While it's the goal tally that (rightly) gets the attention, Sharp has developed in to much more than a goal scorer.

As complete a CF as there is in L1 and, if played correctly, can still do a job in the Championship. Which just might come in handy !

No: in his second spell he scored 35-13-34-13-20 over 5 seasons.

I honestly believe that now Hanson is partnering Billy up top, Billy could easily achieve 40! goals this season, this partnership could blossom, especially when you look at our goal yesterday, Hanson could easily have gone for goal but no, he and Sharp know exactly what to do, no selfish shots, just make sure it hits the back of the net, whoever it comes off!!

Hopefully come April I'll be pointing out that Our Billy is in an even more exclusive club of those who saved us from relegation one season then fired us to promotion the next.

Of course when it comes to Top Scorer Billy Sharp, the silence from most of this forum will be deafening as ever....

he'll be in a club of one. i think we are in danger of taking Billy's contributions for granted.

Saved us from relegation last season? Not sure about that one as even under Adkins we weren't that close to the bottom 3, were we? Thought we were just midtable mediocrity. We were bottom of the league under Wilder though

Realistic that, in terms of the combined goals total over the two seasons, Billy could end up with more than 46 - which would leave him with the best 2-season 20+per-season total since Jack Dodds in '36/'37. Phenomenal.

Billy's contribution has been outstanding, and includes plenty of hard work outside the penalty area. Indeed there have been times over the years where for whatever reason he has not spent enough time in the box, particularly when we had no decent striker with him, and no midfielders getting into dangerous areas.
On a different note, of the post-war players on the list, Alf Ringstead is the surprise to me. A small winger who, I think, only ever played on the wing. I would have put my money on Woodward being the only one to do that, and he is not on the list.

You make me feel old when I realise that the time between the last seasons for Doc Pace and Brian Deane (28 years) is about the same as between Deane and Sharp this year (27 years). In my mind, Deano only seems like a few seasons ago, and I can quite easily imagine Sharp and Deane overlapping in the same team. Pace, on the other hand, played in black & white in another era altogether.

Well, this record has fallen now. 50 league goals is the best 2 season haul by a Blades player since 1935-6 and 1936-7, when Jock Dodds got 56 over 2 seasons.
