On Stearman > Off Duffy

This week off Dowell > On Cranie

Last week we looked a bit nervy. This week the defensive shape mess about cost us 3 points.

Had Chris not made that sub we would not have lost this game.
Here’s hoping this is the Boro style lesson he needed when he stopped playing a flat 3 in the middle. That can’t happen again.

And - Washington is shite.

We were 3-0 up....you could have throw dog and duck players on and come away with the win.

3 Mistakes, 3 goals. They did fuckall apart from that.

Keep saying this, Dowell was controlling the game, finding all sorts of space and was taking the pressure off the defence. Taking him off was the turning point no matter who fucked up for the goals. Keep him on and we would have gone 4-0 up.

We didn't look nervy against Bolton. Bolton barely got in our penalty box for the entire match.

Completely altered our defensive shape and our organisation was all over the place afterwards.

I must admit, I was saying why the fuck Cranie.....idea was Basham goes into midfield.

But I hear what people are saying...we normally do like for like subs, so why in these situations do we alter it and go mega defensive when we never stand up to it.

We can't legislate for the 3 individual errors that ultimately cost us 3 goals, however the changes invited pressure as we didn't have an out ball. We don't invite the pressure, we don't give the opposition a chance to capitalise on the errors.

As much as I agree that the subs did effect us, the 3 mistakes came from 2 starters. Hendo punches away, it stays 3-0, hendo smothers it stays 3-1, Jack clears it stays 3-2. Not knocking those lads but don’t blame the subs alone

Let's face it, virtually every game this season we've had a period of 5 or 10 minutes of complete mental breakdown where we've thrown away maybe 10 points, but yet for 80 minutes we were top of the league in February, I can completely understand the despondency especially after 80 minutes of ecstasy, but after all that we're still third, I've got a feeling that this season isn't over, not for us and not for a dozen other teams, there's a few freak results still to come, that result tonight can have two possible reactions and after the next 2 games we will see which one it is.
Being a unitedite is easy, is something that nobody has ever said ever

Before we scored Bolton had a couple of half chances and after the substitution of Duffy we dropped off, a better team (Villa?) might have done something.

It is what it is!

Wilder brings a defender on every time we have any sort of comfortable lead. That's the main reason we never hammer anybody.

Nothing needed changing.

Madine certainly didn't need bringing off, and if Dowell was coming off it should have been a straight swap for Duffy.

Yes there were individual mistakes, but making that sub is basically saying to them "come on, knock the ball down our throats and try to score, you've only got Tammy Abraham up front..."

They were shite before our subs, they were still shite after our subs. It's just that we didn't have any sort of outlet, and unnecessarily gave them encouragement.

It was a totally inexcusable throwaway. It should never have got near 3-2, let alone 3 fucking 3.

Not the sort of thing you do if you're going to get in the top 2.

And you know what, if we must bring a defender on every time we're in danger of giving someone a battering, can we at least make it someone tall or quick?

Don't want to see Cranie or Stearman here next season.

everyone does it. wilder is no different but we always known our main problem is that under big pressure & a 1 goal lead. we can crack under pressure just in last 12 months Cardiff Stoke & Rotherham. that not including all the points we dropped from winning positions its why many of us have said we need a 2 goal lead

but its a big shame because for 80mins. it was a tremendous performance. in 1 of the pressure games & wouldve gave huge confidence + sending out a message

One thing Wilder never does, quite religiously, is bring a player on for the sake of it, no matter who the player is, no matter how comfortable in the game we are.

Yet that is exactly what he seemed to do with McGoldrick tonight.

Almost as if he felt he owed him after not starting with him in the first place.

Madine was excellent tonight. And what do you want late on when you're being bombarded? Height. Fucking height. To defend the inevitable set pieces.

What Wilder was thinking with this I don't know. He's had an absolute nightmare. Should have got away with it, but he didn't.

Boro will be putting in high balls into the box after watching those ten minutes of defensive bloopers.

Just a thought. You are 3-0 up with a team working very well thank you very much. Why change anything?
Because you've got another game coming up and aren't expecting your keeper to forget how to catch?

A point well made and possibly the case, but is it just coincidence that it keeps going wrong? Or is our perception wrong? Time for some analysis. You should be able to take players off and "coast in", but not with this team.
