Thanks for your efforts Silent. I've really enjoyed these. The 74/75 season was my first full season so has been particularly poignant for me. Will you do the 4th Division season at some point or is that too much? Either way I really appreciate these so thanks Silent.
Cheers, I was a part time Blade between 1979 and 1987 mainly because I was playing football on Saturday afternoons so afraid I will not do the 4th division season

Friendly match in Kuwait

Al Shabab 1 Blades 2 (Field, Bradford)

I dont remember being aware that TC, Badger and McAlister had to leave Kuwait and not take part in the match but I remember the day well.

I came first in the Junior Boys sack race in my school's Sports Day! :) England beat Scotland 5-1 in the Home Internationals. I came home for the Whitsuntide holidays (dont see anyone talk about Whitsuntide nowadays!). Watched England v Scotland on MOTD that night. My dad spotted Jim Brown sitting on Scotland's bench but I missed that. Scotland's keeper Stewart Kennedy of Rangers had a mare that day and I was thinking that Jim Brown could play in Scotland's next match!

All respect out of the window - part time Blade indeed - what would the 1969/76 Utd players who often attended ☕️ parties 🥳 at Silent Towers think 🤔?

Shocking revelation

Fun fact. I assume you got that team from the Complete Record. I was the source of that via a copy of New Caledonian newspaper report (in French) in the British Newspaper Library.

Rarely my dad would buy the Green Un during the close season as he wasnt interested in cricket, but 50 years ago this month he did buy one and posted it to me. I remember looking at the new away kit in awe and thought that we would have an exciting season starting in August!

The excitement levels were through the roof. Last seasons great finishing position- a new £100k 6ft plus striker , new kit , new stand - this was it , we’ve arrived again ….

Oh bolloxs

For me, this is probably going to be the last of the "50 years ago today" threads.

9/7/1974

Two days after being disappointed seeing Holland lose to West Germany in the 1974 World Cup final on tv, I was shocked to hear the news that Geoff Salmons had moved to Stoke for a record fee of £180,000. My dad was disappointed too but he explained that the reason we accepted Stoke's offer was because of our rising debt caused by the expenses on building the new stand. I remember thinking "what's the point of spending on a new stand if it meant that we would sell a key player?"

And then the useless, Mick Speight had the audacity to say we won't miss him ( Geoff Salmons) following his transfer to Stoke City . Jealous Git !
