There was a rather sad piece on Joe Shaw in the 'Blades Biography' of how he later even applied for a job as groundsman for the Blades and got rejected.

Saw Len Allchurch several times after he moved to Stockport County, one of the stars of s very good 4th Division promotion side.

Gerry Summers and Doc Pace had a sports shop on Abbeydale Road - called Summers and Pace. Think it was where there was or is a barbers now - Cicarrelli's (?)

Graham Shaw had a cafe in the Castle Market. Anyone any old photos? Then he took on the Sportsman on Denby Street.

Before one of my first matches my dad took me in The Sportsman to see Graham Shaw.

I remember one story concerning Graham which the Telegraph carried. He was picked to play for England at the eleventh hour and the picture of Graham on the train hanging out of the window with his boots in his hand...Boy how times have changed from the £20 appx he had for wages from United in those days....Today picked for England at the last minute would be helicopter and a five star Hotel..One of Englands best left backs He didn't get picked much because he didn't play for the elite clubs. I am sure you know which teams I refer to

My dad was always bitter about Springett getting picked for England over Hodgkinson so he was never an England football fan. When I was a kid I was convinced that Deane and Tracey should have been getting into the England squad and when they didn't Walth Snr said it had always been like that.

I always thought Hodgy was better than Springett. Joe Shaw never capped, Alan Woodward never capped the list is endless

One of the most important games of 1960/61 was our FA Cup semi final defeat to Leicester City.

Strange that this thread was created and 7 hours later we are drawn against Leicester City.

I was too young to attend the semi final and subsequent replays but have read on either here or Bladesmad how unlucky we were.

Time to put that right.

We were unlucky in the first match at Leeds (did Pace handle the ball when we had a goal disallowed?). We were poor in the second replay at Birmingham.
