For those teams having to play us
We are smoking
Last season we played on the front foot playing hung-ho attacking football.
The problem is we were open and sometimes got caught conceding late goals going for the win instead of settling for the draw.
Early this season, we’d start matches quickly on the front foot dominating matches.
Then we’d tire second half and in the last 10 minutes we’d sit back in numbers defending deep trying to hold on to the lead.
So I was impressed how we played the game against QPR.
Leading 1-0 we stopped being gung-ho, we still attacked but it was with intelligence and patience.
We also didn’t panic sitting back trying to defend the lead.
Instead we continued to control the game keeping possesion making sure QPR had to defend most of the match. It ended up only being 1-0 but we never had to get out of 3rd gear, were never in trouble and won quite comfortbably with a very professional display.
I thought we were pretty poor yesterday, still struggling to create clear cut changes, and a couple of players seems to be off their normal high standards, however we'd have lost of drawn that game last year.
Still would like us to bring some quality fire power in during this window if we're going to seriously challenge for a top 2 position, but if we can keep winning when we're not at 100% then anything is possible.

Agreed. We weren’t poor yesterday. QPR were good at keeping us out but that’s all they had. We could have played all day and they wouldn’t have scored. Their only focus was on nullifying our game so it was always going to stifle us a bit.
Dean Ashton made a good point on Quests EFL program. Leeds and Norwich have had to rely on late goals to get points in games, where as we have gained points relatively easier. that has to tell on them at some point.

But we have seen us dominate games and then ship a late goal which has undone us.We weren’t poor yesterday. QPR were good at keeping us out but that’s all they had. Good analogy with Bomber, but as you said he was out of sight by the 7th round. If we’d controlled the game from 2-0 I would agree at 1-0 we’ve seen recently we’ve been undone.Disagree, can’t remember QPR having a single chance to score.
It reminded me of a Bomber Graham boxing fight, where he’s technically so superior to his opponent that he builds up a massive lead at the half way point. At half time we were leading 1-0 and my main concern was it was almost “too easy” as QPR only tactic seem to be containment. Agree we didn’t have many chances but we were in full control. A boxing trainer would say “ you have a massive points lead so just work the jab and stay out of trouble then you’ve won”.
I felt like that yesterday. We coasted a little in the 2nd half and played too many sideways passes instead of forward passes.
However like a Spanish team we kept possession well and managed out a comfortable and professional win.
Why risk going for a 2-0 or 3-0 win, when it looked certain that unless we made a bad mistake a 1-0 win was in the bag.
But we have seen us dominate games and then ship a late goal which has undone us.
Again, after the goal I can’t recall another real chance being carved and they did start to come out more after that point.

The positive I took from yesterday is that didn’t happen and as you say they didn’t get the opportunity.
Again fair point and maybe my language was sloppy. I thought we were poor going forward and we should have created a couple more good chances to look to put us out of sight given the possession we had and that we scored reasonably early. If we’d seen the game out at 2-0 I’d be in agreement with you.Us previously dominating games but conceding late goals doesn’t mean we were poor yesterday though. We completely controlled the game and although we didn’t create much we did exactly what was required.
Henderson-Egan-Norwood-Sharp ,best spine in the division and some say Wilder cant do transfers.

Said this on another thread agree 100% , we won professionally yesterday , we seem to be growing as a team , play teams off the park Derby / Blackburn / Then dig in and play without getting ourselves into to much trouble Wigan / QPRLast season we played on the front foot playing hung-ho attacking football.

Only 9 more home games to watch this set of players we have at the moment, make the most of it cus one way or another things will change next season no matter what happens , Actually might see em 10 times cus I have a chance of a ticket at swillsbrough , only problem in the North stand with all the swine , should I ? could I ? , wont be able to keep quite though if we score !
I wouldn’t say we’re smoking but we’re winning different types of games these days. Not so long ago, we’d have to be brilliant to win. Now we just find a way.
That’s probably more encouraging than anything.
