Some on here will know of the links between S24SU and 1874 Northwich FC - a fans club that grew out of the chaos of the meltdown of Northwich Victoria. For a few years now forum people have helped 1874 out by drinking beer at their annual beer festival - hardship eh?;)

The links were taken a stage further last year as the U21s played a pre season friendly against the 1874.

Last night was the 5th festival we've been to - but as it clashed with the Three Valleys Beer Festival - I was the only one to go over this year - - as much to keep in touch with their people as for any other reason. It was good to see that the venue is still covered with SUSA stickers from last year - and that some 1874 fans still have them stuck to their mobiles and wallets!

I was also told by one good old lad that the Greasy Chip Butty is the best song in English football - though he was that pissed he could only remember the first and last lines!

One idea that has resurfaced is for an inter club fans friendly. We tried for this before the U21 game last year but it didn't happen - but the two Northwich lads now leading this at their end reckon they have 18 signed up to come across including the England U18 Women's keeper (I think that's what they said - I was pretty battered by that stage of things!) - and hopefully staying over for a few beers with S24SU folks that evening.

So the questions for us are - Does anyone fancy a friendly in Sheff vs the 1874 people (date to be arranged) - and Does anyone fancy a night out round the decent pubs in town to show our guests a proper Sheff night out?

Its not about being competitive (though winning is always nice!) - its more the "Football Unites" thing - a chance to have a good time, meet some other fans for a few beers - and continue to build the positive links between us Blades and 1874 Northwich

(Extra point for those who can name three players who played for both SUFC and Northwich Victoria - not counting their manager Jim Gannon who was also at BDTBL)

Now that Coventry are apparently in the Checked colour paint pot tin pot thing final, you might be interested to know that on that date (April 1st), Sheffield FC are home to Northwich Victoria ... just a thought for those who want to watch some footy. :)

Blimey BoS - you dug this one out of the archives didn't you??

I reckon its unlikely that many 1874 lads will come over to watch the Vics as the relationships between the two sets of fans are pretty strained. Did anyone on here see Club play Vics in the FA Cup down at the Coach & Horses a few years ago? 1-1 with the Vics equaliser being scored by the same lad who scored the winner to put Charlton out of the Cup the year before (can't remember his name though!)

Re this year's beer festival. I spoke to Pez last week and he tells me the date has been shifted to October (so at least that's away from the Three Valleys date) and the venue to Barnton Cricket Club a few miles away. The numbers are reduced to about 200 (down from over 300) but its now over two nights. Pez was keen to point out that he and the organisers would still like for us Blades to be a part of their event if we're still keen.

I think he also said (I was trying to herd our 6 month old pup whilst I was on the phone to him) that some of the 1874 lads are coming across for a night in Sheff and coming on this year's Three Valleys - and if any of us would like to join them, we'd be more than welcome.
