... since we last had a proper centre half at the club, JTW opens in 4 days, I hope SUFC are going to stop pissing about and get this farce sorted.

Clough should have got it sorted in summer 2014, once he realised the way the wind was blowing over Maguire a proper replacement should have been lined up straight away. Yet 3 windows later we're still in the same situation and in the same piss-poor division.

Just to clarify proper centre half = big fucker who wins all the first balls... headers, tackles, bollockings, organising, all his domain. What we don't want is a full-back or midfield player that can fill in at centre back, or a mop up centre half such as Collins, Edgar, McCarthy, or a young un (ala McGahey) who might develop over time. Think Morgan, Maguire, Stancliffe, even Brian Gayle, a lynchpin at the back, a rock the defence is built around, once one of those types has been signed SUFC might get somewhere.

I think McGrath was 37 when he played for us. Sheer class, hardly had to move because he read the game so well. don't care so much about age as long as they can do the fucking job as Harry could at age 19 and McGrath could at 37. Just buy us something that does what a centre half does. I don't care if it isn't cultured a la Bobby Moore, I expect it to bark orders like a sgt major, rumble across strikers like a tank and come hurting into corners like a howitzer. May be crude but that would be an improvement over the last few years.
