Saw some of the awards. Best United team ever the 2002-03 one? Who voted for that? People who think the club was founded in 2002?

Best ever captain Chris Morgan? I am sure he is a lovely chap, but come on....

As always with these things, it's swayed by the people who vote, when they vote and their era.

Which is why I don't always particularly agree with awards of this type :)

Your favourite ever player will be different to my favourite ever player, will be different to someone else's favourite ever player.

Well indeed, but can't people cope with the radical idea that the best United team ever might be one they never saw. I mean, call me stupid, but I tend to think the United teams that played at the top end of the top division might be better than one that finished third in the second tier.....

Evidently, no, they can't - Some would say they can only vote for what they have seen with their own eyes, despite the apparently statistical and anecdotal evidence :)

The second game of the 1922/23 season (to pick one completely at random) may be the best we've ever played but I can't really vote for it as I've not seen it, mainly because I'm only 46.

I can see why people think it's strange that nobody votes for the team from nearly 100 years ago, but also I can see why people vote for the players they've actually watched in person ahead of someone who died before the voter was born.

There is also the issue as to whether the test is historically relative or not. Relatively speaking, the best United team ever, was the Fatty Foulke/Nudger Needham team of 1897-1902. There's simply no argument about that. No other United team has ever come closed to their achievements. However, I suspect their levels of skill and fitness were rather lower than the current lot and if they were magically resurrected, they would get hammered if they played against the likes of Doyle and Higdon...

I never saw him play, but this guy has to be about the most successful ever to wear a Blades shirt, and has always been a bit of an icon to me.

<-------------------------------------

Indeed. There can be no doubt he is the best United player ever in terms of his achievements and standing in the game.

There's always going to be some dick that looks this sort of thing up.

It could well be, a thrilling 3-3 draw away at Manchester City in Division One.

The first game of 22/23 was a 2-0 home win over Manchester City. Crazy.

I look forward to these sort of results against Citeh again very shortly.

I went last night and enjoyed it however I also didn't agree with many of the votes, like you say morgs is a great guy but not sure about greatest EVER captain, when there was someone who won everything available. Greatest ever team again what can you say about the early years? I have to agree with the away shirt vote but I also didn't agree with the greatest game vote or team. I was happy for Bassett to beat warnock to the managers vote, however good of Neil to come all the way back after the palace game.

I have to ask though why the battle of bramall lane wasn't an option for greatest game and john Ebbrell for greatest player. ;)

If the people who voted were made up of mainly people in their 60's the results would have been very different, the 2003 team gave us some great times but come on you cant begin to compare then to the team from the early 70's who were playing in the 1st division and in the top half of that division too, one season just a couple of wins away from being League champions.

Only just seen the "best ever" 125 years results, was there a rider that anyone you vote for must still be alive!

Anyone with a grasp of United's history would be voting best player Needham (followed by the likes of Currie, Hagan, W Gillespie, J Shaw), captain Needham or perhaps Utley, best team 1898 title winners, best manager okay Bassett is in the ball park but should be Harris (how the f**k was Haslam short listed!!!)

And why, oh why, did the McCabe family get a special award, first few years they did a lot of good but the last 7 years have been nothing short of disastrous.

Eddie Colquhoun gets his cap:

Jags on Morgs:

Tony Currie:

Sean Bean (ft. Cockney Walk):

Bob Booker:

Colquhoun's Scottish cap presentation would have been made very late in the evening cos Stuart McCall (who presented the cap) would have arrived late in the evening cos he was at the Motherwell v Hamilton game in the afternoon, not forgetting after match interviews etc!

Agreed which makes the best team ever the Bassett side that finished 9th in the modern top flight. Yes?

Agree, it should be John Harris.

There was another candidate there that wasn't even short-listed as far as I'm aware.

The one with the highest win ratio in our entire history.

Young Nigel ...................... just saying ;)

For those that went how were Harry and Charlie as hosts?

I was really impressed by the professionalism and the presentation of the whole evening
It was a credit to United and the staff that must have worked extremley hard on this it worked fantastically well
The choir was unreal singing No Pig fans in Town
