I think it's a fine line between following your passion and being a customer.
I agree with your point about it being a great stadium and the need to market their product, but that's where the line gets crossed for me.
As a kid, I loved playing football and loved watching my Blades heroes on a Saturday.
I wanted to play like them and dreamed that one day I might just be able to pull on the red and white stripes and score a winner in front of the kop.
Sadly, I was never good enough for that, so standing shoulder to shoulder along side like-minded passionate Blades who were more interested in a rousing chorus to encourage their team was the next best thing.
For me, it was about encouraging and then admiring talented footballers doing what I could only dream of.
No talk of prawn sandwiches, fancy boots and private jets in those days.
Just normal people, doing their best to be winners. The entertainment was secondary, and by some way compared to today.
Do I want hard grafting triers and no success? No.
But neither do I want us to 'buy success' with a billionaire who treats us as a plaything/money making asset.
That's why I so dearly love what CW and AK are doing at the moment.
I accept that football as a pure sport has changed, probably for ever, which although still 'entertaining' makes me sad.

When was it a ‘pure sport’? There were all kinds of stuff going off behind the scenes, managers taking bungs, refs taking bribes, chairman skimming the gate money, Swan, Layne and probably others that didn’t get caught. And there was nothing pure about getting darts, rubble and coins thrown at you or being treated like a criminal by the police for having the audacity to go to a football match.

Its about time football in this country brought itself into the 21st century. In terms of value for money, compared to other forms of entertainment football is terrible. You are paying anywhere between £20-40 per head for an outdoor seat (sometimes exposed to the elements or an obstructed view) for a couple of hours with only the most basic facilities for an event that happens every other week. Don't get me wrong I've had some great times watching the Blades at antiquated dumps like Gigg Lane, Edgeley Park or Hillsborough but if you are getting basic you expect to pay a basic price.

People will try and say that the 'match day experience" is a modern concept but all it amounts to is making a day out of it (a few drinks and something to eat, etc) which is what people have always done. Offering people something half decent to eat and drink served relatively quickly, a decent view and to not destroy your knees on the seat in front is hardly the height of decadence. The basic concept that has underpinned the construction of football stadia for over 100 years is that the fans are plebs to be simultaneously contained like animals and milked dry for their cash.

I've no problem with the modern feel of Spurs new ground. It already happens in Germany. The clubs know what the fans want, they give it to them and if anything it improves the atmosphere.

It's absolutely vital we get that implemented for next season. Less time spent fumbling at the change in the till and more time serving some fucking beer.

That 'FastPour' system we have is a laugh, innit? You could pour one in two seconds if you like, but the dopey fucker carrying it will still take five minutes to bring it to the counter.

I guess I should have said when it was 'more about sport than it was entertainment'
Taking the darts and bent chairmen out of the game is obviously a good thing.
Replacing a working men's sport with a lower-middle class entertainment option not so.
