Not a great deal of info round about this one... a first chance to see some new signings?

Or will it be a reserve fixture?

From Retford United FC

The Badgers are preparing for a prestigious friendly game against Championship Side Sheffield United on Tuesday 2nd September 2008.

It is expected that a strong side featuring several first team players will make the trip from Bramall Lane to Cannon Park for the fixture that kicks off at 7.45pm.

Retford United have managed to secure the game due to there being an International break over the weekend, and it will give Blades boss Kevin Blackwell a chance to cast his eye over several of his players as they have 10 days without a game.

It is expected that a large crowd will attend the match, tickets priced £6 and £4 can be bought before the match to allow quick entry to the ground on the evening, these are available from Cannon Park or the Old Sun in Cannon Square.

Retford have had a mixed start to their campaign, but are back to winning ways after a win at Goole on Monday afternoon, and will face the Blades who will be challenging for honours again this season.

The club urges supporters to show their support at the match, and hope to see many more new faces to help them push for promotion to the UniBond Premier Division.

Mention the match on BU, and someone suddenly remembers that there's a match tonight and they really ought to do their job.

Anyway, team news:

James Beattie takes another step forward in his comeback in a very strong United squad for the friendly fixture at Retford Town tonight (7.45pm).

After a substitute stint for the last ten minutes last Saturday, the England International is in the reckoning for a longer outing alongside Danny Webber and Jordan Robertson in Nottinghamshire.

The game is a good opportunity for first team squad members who are short of match practice and fitness to get a meaningful outing, especially with no Reserve team fixture scheduled, and this weekend's International break.

UNITED: Bennett, Annerson, Naughton, Geary, Montgomery, Spring, Beattie, Webber, Law, Lowton, Chanot :mwah:, Quinn K, Robertson, Tahar, Travis, Walker, Wedgbury.
