I was a huge advocate for Wilder before he came first time, but there was no way I would have had him back for a second time

BUT

He sounded just like his old self and his enthusiasm is infectious.

If the players are half as enthusiastic for Friday as I now am, with a bit of luck and a following wind thiis could be a great season.

I was ambivalent about Preston before the interview and now I can't wait to get on the train.

I obviously don't know how the season will pan out but is it fair to say that in Wilders career a bit turmoil has often resulted in him galvanising his teams.

I'm talking about his time at Northampton first and even here first time. Tough start changed it and that famous crate of beer after Millwall.
The ownership struggle in 2018 and then the throwaway of a 3-0 win at villa.

He can't do it without more players in, we are short, very short. But I will agree. On paper Moore, oHare and Burrows seem good signings for this level. And McCallum and Shackleton decent for the squad too.

Gilchrist should be a good loanee.

Guess we just have to see, I see no downside in supporting him and the lads from the off. And see where it goes. And to do otherwise is counter productive at this stage!

Yeah! I came here just now to point that out… one player had a pink shirt on so I was hoping a keeper!

It could also be existing players in a sponsored shirt, though. Fingers crossed a new keeper.

Right man at the right club at the right time.

I was sceptical about him returning. He has accepted that he got things wrong about his exit last time.

He gave us the BEST footballing side I have seen in my nearly 50 years. (Yes I include Howard Kendall’s team in that) Where every player knew their job individually and as part of a well drilled system.

He gave us our club back, he gave us hope and real expectancy and we need to back him.

Not a happy clapper - just a realist. He knew what was needed in terms of a clear out (including many of his ‘favourites’) and its clear he is trying to get in quality replacements.

Yes we still need numbers for the squad, yes we need 2 or 3 to come into the first team and yes we would ideally have had them in place 3 or 4 weeks ago.

I just hope we can (and myself included) we can afford some patience in the first few weeks if we don’t get off to a flier…….
