‘Blame lies with who signed him’ – Arrival from Sheffield United goes from cult hero to flop within months

I liked him when he was fully fit, but we very rarely got that and it was probably the right decision in retrospect for us to part ways. Had a run of games with Ndiaye and he finally looked like the striker we thought we were getting.

Not a bad footballer truth be told but his inability to stay fit and suspension free hampered his entire time here.

It's a shit article by the way, absolutely nothing of any substance within it. Save yourself a few clicks and don't bother 🤣
I agree with this. During his time with us McBurnie had two major issues - his lack of availability (due to fitness and suspensions) and him being used incorrectly as a target man (instead of a ball into feet striker). When fully fit and used in a system that suited his strengths, he falls into the lower prem/upper Champ quality player, we just didn't see it enough.
I'm not excusing him either, as I believe a lot of it was down to his attitude and not taking his career seriously enough (I think he's admitted as much and said it was Hecky who got him to buck his ideas up).

Second tallest dwarf then.

13 goals. Took him 3 seasons and 80 games to do that.

He did some good things but that's a poor return for a PL striker over 3 seasons.
Not in a team who were abysmal for 2 of those seasons.

I’m not defending him, he was a bit of a waste for me, scored some goals to get us promoted the other season so partly redeems himself but still not great.

If I said it once I'll say it a thousand times. At best McBurnie is nothing more than an average Championship striker. Sorry. Never rated him. Never will.

At best, he's (at least) a very good Championship striker.

Quite quick to forget the role he played in our promotion season under Hecky.
He was first class in the first half of the season.

I agree, however, like you said it was only for half a season. After the World Cup break he barely did anything.

I laugh when people celebrate him being our "top scorer" in the Premier League. 6 goals is hardly something to celebrate. It's not like teams were queuing up to buy him after that. If I started a band tomorrow then I'd be my bands best guitar player, despite the fact that I barely play!

TBF he was often United’s best defender, especially from corners where he was excellent, a veritable magnet for the cross in. Unfortunately he was the complete opposite at the top end of the pitch, hardly ever getting his head to the ball and when he did missing the target. At best a useful striker to bring on late in a game when we were defending a lead. UTB

You may be right on his level but at the same time he played a reasonable part in us finishing 9th in the first season and scored 13 goals in the Hecky promotion season as well as crucial cup goals so I reckon even at £20m he paid off his transfer fee when you consider the money back from staying up/parachute payments respectively. If we get promoted, big if, I think we'd need better but in the Championship I'd say he would be a decent addition but we've got Moore anyway so I can't see us going back for him again.

When you said hes paid his fee back you are right he certainly did, as the promotions came etc..money well spent because 20m is peanuts for prem league strikers.

I'm sad that he's not worked out in Spain, but he wasn't prolific, and they must have known that when they signed him..

But he can't be that great a striker if he's not good enough for Scotland..

Because they're f........ w......

Is that not the point of speaking about football?

We all know fuck all, but we care and have strong opinions that we express. It would be really boring if we just said “y’know what? We’re thick as fuck” whenever an opinion was expressed.

Aye, you’re right. I am just bored as fuck of McBurnie bashing.

McBurnie can't strike a ball.properly, scuffs everything. If he can't kick it properly, he's never going to be a decent striker is he?

That and his injury/disciplinary record.

Never rated him. Glad he's gone.
