don't disagree with that, he has been worth his weight in gold to Stoke hasn't he

Well he was our top scorer and despite his age we got ripped off good style. Especially since he has pretty much gone on and kept Stoke up.

Coincidental, I think we've been better since:

We stopped playing ineffective over-the-top hoofball for towering strikers to aimlessly chase
Cotteril come back into the team/we started getting crosses in from the byline
We stopped rotating keepers
Our passing improved
We dropped that crazy 4-3-3 "system"
Morgan and Kilgallon became a fixed partnership at the back
Spring sprung to Charlton
Howard was dropped (at the time he was dreadful)
Sharp was dropped and hasn't been offside for 60 minutes per game (before getting subbed)
Webber was dropped from the starting line up and hasn't run into a wall of defenders for 60 minutes per game (before getting subbed)
Monty is being played to his strengths (breaking up play and short, simple passing - which despite lacking elsewhere, he does as well as anyone).

Before the derby game we looked like we were riding our luck a little in terms of our home performances/league position. Losing that game seemed to give us the kick up the arse we needed and we went on to another level (a bit like the away result did for our away results I suppose). That was more than a month after Beattie had left, I think he would have excelled in the current team/system.

I don't think we had much choice, think it was a clause he had, he wanted to sign a 2 year contract with us but obviously because of his age and the money he wanted it wouldnt of been worth the risk, Stoke matched the clause in his contract, offered him more money and off he went.

We have been a better team without him anyway.
