£2m Wilder pay off

So it seems Wilders pay off was £2m.
Saw an article linking Wilder to the Celtic position and it mentioned he was still getting paid by Sheffield United for the next 6 months.
It seems that Wilder was on £4m or so a year.
If he was to take the Celtic position or any other managerial job before the next 6 months his pay off would be decreased.
Do you think what he had done for us the last 5 years he deserves every penny? or do you think by deserting the team when the going got tough and engineering his escape to keep a relegation off his CV and his reputation in tact whist walking out the back door with a £2m payoff is taking the piss?

What he has been part of during the last five years has been fantastic.

Anything contractually agreed, absolutely entitled. Asking for a pay off for going, less so, in my view.

I think he's entitled to what was either negotiated or contracted
 
I'm not having this bollocks about 'keeping a relegation off his CV'. How exactly is he going to explain to future employers that he was in charge of one of the worst teams in PL history? It's not like there isn't a plethora of information available at a few keystrokes if they want to find out how we've done is it?!

Unless you think he'll go into an interview and say "well I wasn't technically the manager as relegation was confirmed so can you just ignore that slight blip please?!".

I agree. It might not be technically on his CV, but everybody in the game will know he was at the helm for the vast majority of the season. So technically or not, that I'm afraid is a fact.

If you want to be associated with the success, great, and well deserved. But sometimes you have to take some responsibility for when it all goes wrong too.

If the option was either pay him £2m or have him sat mumping and moaning for 10 games and upsetting the players and staff then I can see why the club has paid him off.
If it was the case that he was being a dick about leaving then all this "looking after the best interests of the football club" goes out the window and that's where I'd think he was a dick. At the moment though it's an unknown so he gets the benefit of the doubt from me until it's proven otherwise.
 
4 great years and 1 horrendous year. Will rightly be remembered for the great times but every aspect of his management has been piss poor this season.

If, as it seems, he chose to leave then a £2m pay off does seem obscene. But I appreciate we don’t know the full details.

It’s like I said the other day. Comparing Wilder’s employment situation to that of the normal working man just isn’t....well it doesn’t compare does it. There’s millions of pounds involved for starters.

This season certainly won’t go unnoticed regardless of who’s manager the day we are relegated. There are many ways in which Wilders actions this season could be interpreted but I’m sure when he’s explaining this period of his career to a new club, they will take a decision based on that discussion with him and not much else.

Part of me wonders if Wilder asking to step down before Christmas was his way of saying to the board, look you can still stay up if you put a fresh face in there. Some chairmen might see that as the action of an honest football man, others might see it as the actions of a manager leaving his club in the shit. But again I’m just speculating like everyone else is atm.
 
I think we don't deserve another thread aimed at stimulating debate as to whether Wilder can be turned into a pantomime villain to appease those among us who feel sufficiently inadequate at his leaving...

No matter how much angst we all externalise on the matter, the fact remains we are moving on, just as he will do one day.

Can't we get back to discussing something much more beneficial like whether Billy Sharp's legs have gone or the price of programmes....

Programmes will probably be a tenner by the time we get back to watching the Blades.

All the top clubs work with a DOF of some kind!,
How will Wilder get a job with the likes of Celtic if he wont change his way of working , Thr best he can hope for is a championship club who dont have a DOF.

Nor do I think he'll be signing on at Cavendish Court or any other jobcentre for that Derek, Aldi beans are a bit more upmarket.

CW was on maybe a grand a week at Northampton?
Not a bad wage by any standards, but SUFC gave him the vehicle to, through his success, times his salary 8 fold
He will now be a very rich man after 4 years of success, earning and pocketing increase after promotion/survival bonus

Given the situation he left the team in, both in terms of players via his transfers, and league position, maybe we should be asking for a refund not giving him a payoff?!
