It's not a lazy tactic at all. It's a calculated ploy intended to divert from the question of whether Wilder is fit for purpose in the role, making it into a question of Wilder vs (insert name here), from which they can attack the suggestion. For example:

(insert name of prominent ex player) - Lampard/Carrick/Rooney are not actually good coaches and only got the job on name value, it's certain to fail
(insert name of experienced option) - dinosaur football, it's certain to fail
(insert name of up and coming talent) - no Championship experience, it's certain to fail
(insert name of anyone without a prior link to SUFC) - he doesn't "get the club", it's certain to fail

I'm sure you can come up with your own similar counter arguments people would use for any of the 8 billion people on the planet that aren't Wilder

I don't hate wilder, like most think his first stint one of the most exciting times as a blade. But if any other manager had overseen the recent results, playing style (or lack of), constant closing down of criticism or deflection of failure to others, would the rabid pro wilder supporters be saying the same things.

Looking objectively he does appear a busted flush, if he wasn't who he was would we have been excited by getting a manager who had failed badly at borough and Watford?

Look at the team, think about the results, consider the failings. Change is challenging but it's a fact, we need to change direction.

I've never, ever, said "Wilder is shit". I've always maintained the position that the tactics deployed during his most recent periods as manager (2023-present) have not been on par with the standards he delivered during his first tenure. And, more importantly, that they would not generate prolonged success without significant change.

I also don't dismiss the points tally of last season. The issue lies in that despite that, we achieved nothing. If we continue to finish 10 points behind 2nd place every season, and lose the play-off final, does that make us a successful club? I wouldn't say so.

It's also hilarious that you think to throw the argument at me that you seemingly believe my stance is that of "our current manager is utter dross and we should get rid", when that's pretty much what you throw at anyone who suggests a different man to replace CW.

For clarity, if next season, Wilder delivers a team that plays front-foot, aggressive, attacking football; something akin to that Coventry have shown this season, I'll happily admit that I was wrong to want him to leave. I would like nothing more than to have something to celebrate as a Blade. And even if we don't get promotion, I'll still be happy, so long as we migrate away from the sluggish, dull football that has often been served up this season.

The thing is, given how much I've seen from you on this forum, I'm confident that if the shoe were on the other foot, and we succeeded as a consequence of Wilder leaving his position, you would not make the same sort of concession.

Granted both teams are/were crazy but these were the only jobs wilder was offered and he didn't impose himself on either. Anyway, my point was would any blade have welcomed a manager sacked by either club unless he was called Chris wilder and other than memories of his golden spell.

Please feel free to take individual quotes to challenge but don't pretend to not understand my overall point that the majority of fans would not be happy with a failed manager from clubs at that time or content with recent performances if it was any other manager

Hope is never enough to deal with the major anachronism of the transfer window closing a month after the season has started - it's a bizarre system which means all clubs start the season not knowing who's in their squad , let alone having them fully fit & coached into whatever is the manager's playing strategy for the season.

I'd like to think so but we are stuck with sunk costs on a lot of players and will probably have to heavily subsidise any outgoings that aren't Hamer, Brooks, Seriki, Burrows (despite bad form), O'Hare or Peck. Arblaster and Cooper could be anything now and we don't know if they'll even be ready for next season. So we'll effectively have a lot of outfield loans we are effectively paying money to watch play elsewhere. Any big outgoings may well take a long time to come to fruition. If we are waiting on those monies that will handcuff us too.

I'm not saying I am overly confident of a great session next season. But I've said it before. Some stability is good and I reckon Wilder is a good punt to be in charge of what will be a big turnaround in personell. In fact he's usually done well when being in charge over a summer.

Dave Bassett failed at and was sacked by Watford. Didn't do too badly for us. The last manager to get us promoted to the prem was sacked by his previous clubs. Like with players sometimes the manager is not a good fit for a club, see Clough/Leeds.

Dave Bassett had a great spell with at least two clubs. It then didn't work out after us, wilder had good spells before joining us and has subsequently landed largely on his arse since. No idea what point you're attempting to make bringing Clough into the conversation.

Wilder has a good track record of building a team on a low or non-existent budget. This season when he came in he recognised that we were really lightweight in certain areas (attack particularly) so went out and recruited Reidewald and Bamford who cost nothing apart from possibly a signing on fee (probably not a lot as both were on the scrap heat!) and wages. They have proved to be key players in the turnaround around and both now could be sold for a good fee if we wanted. This is his talent and no reason why he can't rebuild the team on a small budget. Morale is dont give him any money! There's no manager better at this.

It depends, there are certain posters who would mop up after him if they walked in on him in bed with their Mrs, then there are others who think he’s the devil and hate him whatever he does. We know which side of the argument they’ll be on at least.

Most rational Blades can have a nuanced view on how he’s doing based on what they’re seeing in real life.
