We win for the first time in weeks against a 10-man Hull side and now all the Wilder in crowd are instantly vindicated and the months of mediocrity and worse that came before it are forgotten.

I know that’s not what you’re saying but it’s how it feels on this forum at times tbh. Win or lose, it just results in cheap point scoring from people on a given side of the Wilder in/out debate.

Two things can be true - a lot of us would never want us to lose but at the same time believe it’s time we finally moved on as a club from Chris Wilder. We can look back fondly on what he achieved in those first few seasons and how he gave us some of our best years following united, but it’s the better part of a decade on now, and it’s just depressing watching him tarnish his legacy. I know plenty of others feel the same way.

We weren't playing against 10 men until the 75th minute.

No one's saying that a single win proves anything. If anything it shows how tight games are. We've not lost by more than a single goal since Boxing Day v Wrexham and we've not won by more than a single goal since QPR in late February. All other games gave been draws or won / lost by one goal.

You talk as if Selles comes into a club and it takes years to recover from his destruction.

Why aren’t Hull haven’t a mediocre season when their manager before Jakirovic was Selles?

How long does Wilder keep getting the Selles excuse for?
 
Whether you like it or not, we are already locked in to another season of the Chris Wilder story. This is all because our naive new owners made the crass decision to sack Wilder when they did. Yes, we bottled it in the end, but we went toe to toe with two very good teams for the vast majority of the season. If this wasn’t enough, they compounded their decision by appointing a novice to take over the reins.

Until 6 games ago we were in pretty good form results wise. And thus top 6 was still being talked about however unlikely it would be for us to win 9 out of 12 games or whatever.

Soon as we stuttered with results the wilder out brigade also felt vindicated and emerged more so again.

I'm not sure he's tarnished his legacy for me this season. We were dreadful even immediately after he took over and now we are not going to be involved in a relegation battle. Sure we hoped for a push for top 6 but this squad has been poorly assembled this season.

Not really the same though is it?. Hull had the full summer to reshape the squad after getting rid of Selles and the manager had a full pre season.

Wilder came in to a squad full of awful Selles signings and confidence totally on the floor, that clearly wasn’t going to turn around overnight.

I think he deserves the summer to have the clear out he and everyone knows it needs

Hull have had a big turnaround of players last summer. In terms of ins and outs.

Think they've signed 17 players this season.

Selles signed 14 players. Of which only 3 start consistently in Tanganga, Bindon and McGuinness.

A great point, very well made.
Consistently is being stretched a little there when you think about McG, however, that only goes to strengthen your point

From what I’m seeing Wilder football is back only this time we don’t have a GK having a great season or def playing well enough for us to grab wins when maybe we haven’t been the best team

I don’t see the owners doing anything so he will be here to start season, I do think the 92 point season was a one off and next season and beyond if he stays will see us being a top half team who don’t really challenge promotion

My biggest statement on keeping him or not is this, unless we have owners who are going to spend significantly I think we are now a club who will be at best a yo yo club, I think to get up and stay up we will need to build a really good squad with lots of youth and I just don’t think he is the man to do that

I think, to use golf terminology, he is on the back nine and has little chance of making the cut at this point
 
It's a mid table team with a top 4 budget. 21 points from the 27 games against the 15 teams currently above United, 33 points from the 15 games against the 8 teams below. Similar to last season, efficiency against the dross is the teams best trait.

Nobody comes out of this season with much credit.

They are but you said there was no flare. I corrected you because there is. The problem this season has been last summers recruitment and fitness. Going forward the one thing we must not have is injury prone players. Tom Davies, Shackleton, Ogbene etc. We just can’t afford to have them around. Wilder has built a team from scratch before. We need to give him a chance to do it again in my opinion

Selles is history now, Wilder has had 37 matches and a January window. It’s ridiculous that he’s still being used as an excuse for Wilder.

Agree with you there mate.

Definitely two big factors. I'll add that we cannot hold on to a lead, which directly corresponds to us not being able to see games our.

I don't want to see us become another retirement home for old pros. I'm sick of the narrow minded thinking.

his highlight is staying up on goal difference , look how the new managers lifted them , nothing to do with selles
if we had held on we wouldnt have let quality across our squad be so damaged
 
I think a lot of people are downplaying how big of a job it was to get us out of the relegation scrap this year. After a quarter of the season we were woeful, no cohesion, no confidence and getting easily beaten by very average teams. We were going down and if we rolled the dice again and recruited the wrong man, it’d be league one next season. Wilder deserves more credit than what some of the fanbase are giving him for this season, and has earned the opportunity for next season. For me, the main issue is player fitness, and he’s acknowledged that’s something we will get right next season, wouldn’t surprise me to see us challenging for promotion next season.

Flare = pyro or one leg of jeans that I wore in the 70's.
Flair = playing with gusto and panache (we don't really do this anymore!).
