like the £3m we put on Slew. Didnt get that for him though did we?
Anything over £1m is good business and will allow us to keep Ched

Just remember the sell on clause

I don't think we ever put a £3M price tag on Slew did we ?

Matty Lowton however.......

Keith Quinn was expected to be the best of the Quinn brothers and Dominic Roma was a highly rated England U19 international a few years back. It is often hard to tell until they are tried at senior level.

If that is the case, then we should get rid of Long now then?

Old Georgey Porgie has been pulling up trees hasn't he??! I've never seen anyone pick the ball out of the net so well! Mind you, he has had plenty of practice hasn't he? Even in the mere 3 professional games he has played he has let in 9 goals. More of the same in the Youth Cup final too.

The last thing I want to see is young, hungry Sheffielder's leaving the club prematurely. However I would bite someone's arm off for anything like £3m.

I have only seen Long a few times and I have seen enough. The mistakes he made against Exeter were schoolboy standard. A semi pro keeper came on (Gaz Blade?) and said he would have been dropped for making similar mistakes. There's not being ready and there's not being good enough. Poor judgement and shocking positioning should not be part of a goalkeeper's reputoire, even at 18.

Still not signed a new deal at the Lane, attracting interest from other clubs, including a Premiership side, according to rumours.

"There's a young lad from a mid table club in legue one that we've got our eye on. He's not very vocal, not much of a presence, doesn't come for crosses and he can't kick, but we are thinking of putting a 7 figure bid in for him this summer"
- said no premiership manager ever.

I take it he's the young player whose agent is insisting on a get out clause for in any new contract. McCabe mentioned it last night.

If so, then you've got to be fucking joking. He's very lucky in that he's played about 80 more games than he should've done, and he's STILL not very good. Yet they have the cheek to try and dictate to the club like that?

This should be a very easy, stress free one to deal with.

If the clause is anything above 500k though, just go with it. No one will offer that much for him any time soon.

Can't wait to replace him with Kelvin Davis on a 2 year contract on big money.

Equally can't wait for him to leave and go on to fulfill his potential in 4-5 years time when he's got even more experience under his belt and for many of those slagging him off now to say how good he is.

I really hope we keep him because he is still very young and has more experience than most keepers his age. He has shown a lot of promise, and has improved a lot this year. And because I really don't trust our current manager to choose a suitable replacement.

Personally I'd like to keep him but should he leave then he is replaceable. I'd bring in Lillis from Rochdale, sign a veteran like Kelvin Davis maybe for the bench or just promote Eastwood or Ramsdale to No.2

If it's true then we might as well just try get money for him from a tribunal. Pretty ridiculous if true. I'd like him to stay but he is replaceable and the academy has some good young keepers coming through.

I think Matt Gilks is still benchwarming at Burnley, might get a couple more years out of him than Davis? Good shout for Lillis, I'm suprised he hasn't been snatched up already, a decent keeper.

I think Long is worth persevering with, unless his contract demands are daft.

Long is certainly improving and turning into a decent keeper, so it would be a shame if we allowed him to leave. I guess the commercial boys will be able to blame the manager for this one as well ;)

Apparently Ramsdale is the next big thing, but however good he may be, we need a solid keeper for next season rather than throw a very good young kid in.

Perhaps Ramsdale might benefit from a loan somewhere? Funny thing about keepers, they seem to mature later (generally speaking) than outfield players.

Yeah i think he probably would, George Willis has been out at Matlock and doing ok there if there tweets have been anything to go by. Not sure where the club see his future either.

Might be worth sticking Ramsdale in for the last couple of games this season then look to loan him out next season. Which doesn't answer the George Long question, i know.

George Willis seems to have dropped off our radar a bit, which would be a shame because I'd heard a lot of good things about him. I like your thinking about Ramsdale, in fact if there's nothing to play for (which will surely be the case after Saturday) then maybe a couple of the other young 'uns that Adkins might be thinking about for next season. The impression I'm getting from what people are saying about last nights Forum, then perhaps we might as well give it a go?

Gilks is a good shout also and would probably be a better signing than Davis. However I'm not sure he'd go from bench warming at Burnley to coming here to do the same thing on less wages unless he could get some proper game time more often than not. As we've both said though I'd rather Long stayed here to continue as our No.1.

So how does the technical transfer team ( or whatever they are called) approach this one?
Do they have owt to do with outgoings?
If not surly they should?

I think George W may well be leaving the club this summer.

I'd also heard that.
Can't see Long going this summer he is just starting to mature the last thing he wants is bench warming at some championship (or premier ) club.
If he did refuse a contract a new no 1 would be needed temporarily as Ramsdale will be knocking on the door next season, best young prospect I've see
in my time watching the blades. He,s only 17 but I can see him being in 1st team squad next season. Most keepers don't mature until well into there 20 s
but occasionally one comes through much younger ime sure we can all name one or two ( Buckland and our own Hodgy was only 18 when he made his debut ) Boltons loss is our gain, just shows how an old pals act can rebound on you.

I'd tend to think that Long would be better served staying here for now.

Hodgy and Butland are good examples of an exception to the rule, Hodgy was a bit before my time but obviously from what I've heard he was a superb keeper.

If it is Long I'd be very tempted to say piss off then. Deals for players with minimum fee release clauses are a nightmare for the club because invariably there muck less than the players value, and we've been screwed over before on them! Long is sill not good enough to be playing any higher than League One, he's only playing because Howard is older and less of an asset and no better. Howard is also out of contract this season. I can't recall this season where I thought Long produced a save which was outstanding and he doesn't command his box, prefers to punch to often unless unchallenged. He can go to the Prem if he wishes and we'll get some compensation.

Another one who thinks he is better than he is. In my opinion he is currently playing at his correct level mid table 3rd tier.

What's he going to do? be second choice at somewhere like Blackburn or Birmingham.

Apart from more money I don't see what he would gain from that.

I'd be very surprised if it were Long, sounds more like it would be someone like McGahey. If it is though, although I'd like him to stay we shouldn't be dictated to on his deal.

Why all this talk about long holding club to ransome,he is a young goalkeeper learning his trade, he ime sure will be pleased to sign a new contract as he is best served playing regular 1st team football not bench warming elsware. He is improving but will have good competition with
Ramsdale and Eastwood challenging him for the Jersey.
