Blades boss Bryan Robson cut a happy figure speaking to the press, ahead of United's trip to the Ricoh Arena to tackle Coventry City on Saturday.

Robson was delighted with all his players after the win at Charlton and he was happy to see an upbeat response following last weekend's disappointing home defeat against Plymouth Argyle.

He began: "Tuesday's was a good performance overall with everybody contributing. It was pleasing to get a positive result after the weekend and to see the lads play with desire was another massive plus. We rose to the challenge of playing at Charlton and the players showed what they are capable of.

"We must keep building and showing that our confidence is on the up. The lads should go out and express themselves, because we are now climbing the league and this push must continue in December, as we are aiming for the top six by January."

The manager then moved quickly to defend battling midfielder Nick Montgomery after he had come in for criticism from sections of the Bramall Lane faithful against the Pilgrims.

Robson pleaded with the fans to be patience and insisted it wouldn't be long until Montgomery showed his true ability:

"Nick was a bit hurt with the booing during the Plymouth game. With all the injuries he has had he is right to feel upset because Monty would run through a brick wall for the club - after so many disruptions he is bound to be slightly off the pace with his passing and touch.

"What he needs is more games and then we should all be able to see the real Nick Montgomery playing to his full potential."

Well said.
He gives more effort during matches than a lot of our players put together.
He's suffering at the moments cos he hasn't got a partner in midfield that can take the ball off him and be creative.
If he is put in there to break up the play and stop the opposition midfield he's fantastic.
He needs Hendrie or Someone next to him to give him an outlet.

Passing and touch? I thought they looked normal :D

I don't think anyone can fault Monty for the amount of effort he puts in.

Also the booing during the Plymouth game was mainly directed at the whole team coz they all played crap apart from Bennett.

well said....

the thing is bardsley played just as badly in that match but he didn't get the abuse monty has.

Just the opposition players that do that :p

What I've been saying all along.

There is that :), but that isn't his job. We all know he's got the touch of a steam hammer, and is as accurate as a scud, but every side needs a 'stopper'. It would be nice if he could, er, ......... contribute more when we're on the ball though ....... ;)

Monty's been one for the boo boys for a couple of years now at least; they'll not stop now. He could be Man Of The Match for us, make five goal line clearances, score our only goal in a 4-1 defeat, and everything would still be his fault.

No one ever praises him when he does pass well, though - which has been known! Admittedly, it's never sustained throughout an entire match, but then again, how many players do have perfect matches? Monty can pass, and quite often does, but when he messes up people jump on his back. It's amazing how much his presence in the squad polarises opinion amongst Blades...

Monty could score a hat-trick against Barcelona and some miserable twats would still give him grief for not getting four.

It's just some fans though that Matt, I think the majority do appreciate when he has a good game, ie Charlton.

agreed matt people dont notice when he does pass i have seen him game after game pass well and miss place one ball and thats it

He is a Blade and unfortunalty we always seem to have one player that the crowd get on the back off. He is a good player, what he really needs is some better quality midfielders around him. Look how well Killa has been playing since the arrival of Cahill.
