it's a simple equation really, business brings money, money for the footballing side of things. The tax doging students pay a hell of a lot of money to stay in these places. So, land is hot stuff at the moment and many people are selling it off or building such complexes. More money in the coffers with that one, same with a new business centre.
Doesn't really detract from the football, I have yet to see Paddy Kenny, Brian Robson or the likes with a builders hat working on some scaffholding or a planning application in hand going to the council, with it taking away from footballing duties. That's why we hired all these exec' directors and such to run that side of the club.
nothing about the football duties, but i dont think another office block need putting in the corner when more seats could be added and the office block behind.
£3000 a year isnt alot of money for the year. and if its alot to students, cant see em forking loads out to come and watch united play then. think it would be more beneficial making the tunnel bar an away bar and use the corner for the home fans benefit.

I think i read in a programme last season that it wouldnt be possible to put seating in the corner so they were going to put a business block there, which im fine with.
Just look at united as a business compared to wednesday as a business, its like premier league v blue square premier

depends on regulations and space there though. some local residents may abject to student accommodation being built there. the time to build the 200+ rooms rooms and money spend on doing it all may take a while to generate the money back. By then, the boom might have died down and be a waste. Its a gamble, and a risk. rather have something (if they waned to put accommodation in) as a bar and resturant downstairs and kids area for match days and have a few floors above at student living, at least then the pub wont die down with bringin in revenue. if it is to be rented out as gez suggested, blades wont get the whole 3k a year from each student.

I'm sure a lot of the places near the Lane are student accomodations. I have no objection with it. Especially if i end up going to Sheffield Uni

The student housing market isn't like the regular housing market though, there's no boom or bust with it, especially with these new developments. They will be there and always be used, the money will be easily gained back and then profits made, plus if there are international students (a market the Blades can corner with the Chinese connections) they pay a hell of a lot more. It's true the club will not get every penny of £3k per year but there will be a substantial amount.

everything has a boom and bust with it in property. if stock markets broke down (or whatever they do) there is always effects.
And the planning has to be passed first. Cant see people living in the area being too pleased with blocks of flats going up with roudy students about after a night on the razz.
personally i think its a good idea to add a family area. more likely to get more fans from families who are treated well and can all go a few generations than a few students who come and go from china , or london, who if that bothered about football will support a different team and try to get to there away games

Most people in the area are students anyway. Plus there is plenty of accommodation around other areas of the ground. So it getting planning permission on them grounds wont be an issue.
Why not have student accommodation, its a growing market like we have established and it wont or is very likely to decrease in popularity. It is a more stable investment then housing for families.

A small change could have a massive effect in Sheffield.

Anyways, as for any boom dying down, did you know Sheffield is a fastest growing area outside of London?
There are around 70,000 students come to Sheffield also each year I believe.
As for the neighbours not liking rowdy students coming home at stupid hours, a high percentage of people who live round there are students, and also they already have a lot of student accomodation near there too, so I can't see this making much of a difference at all.
Your idea for a more family orientated theme would not generate anywhere near as much revenue, so I just can't see the business sense in it.

And the crowd goes wild (Well as wild as a bunch of corpses that are the peeps near me can go)

but the thing is shown same height of the stand on the pictures sticking out alot further. its alright for people opening there curtains and seeing bramall lane there. but to open em up and see yet another block of flats bang across the road is a different thing.
all im saying is from past experience student accommodation is a pain in the arse. cant we put a casio or dog track there swimming pool for team bonding sessions
