I'll repeat below all his posts on your thread and ask you why you state that?

Now then Pete, Finlay had a pint after the game which we won, he was happy, he said what he thought and it was fair actually, certainly nothing serious. Since then he has been the model poster. Know your posters and where they are coming from and whether they talk sense. Some other posters might have been sorry we won for whatever reason, who knows?

You seem to be on one again Woodward.

His first three posts, for starters, have nothing to do with the OP (which you've kicked off at me for previously) and are moaning about negativity.

The others ignore the points actually made in the OP and simply say we will be given s good budget with no rhythm or reason.

I disagree. We're responding to the leaders of the club constantly talking about cutting back and cutting costs.

We've absolutely no idea what the budget will be but all the noises out of the club don't sound good.

It's all well and good simply saying "We'll have a plentiful budget next season"' when all the signs from the club say otherwise.

Disagree but respect your point of view, fellow Blade. I'm not constantly talking about cutting back and cutting costs though, far from it and nor are plenty others.

But that's what he believes, so he has a right to say it hasn't he? You've no rhyme nor reason either if you think about it.

We're going round in circles and it's boring so this is my last post on the matter.

He decided to read a thread and it took until post 4 before he actually added anything of value other than telling people they are too negative for his liking.

My rhyme and reason is quite strong as its responding to direct quotes from people at the football club talking about the cutting of cloth and the absence of budget. Not just hoping we'll have a substantial budget while ignoring the comments coming out of our leaders.

Seeing as even the club don't even know the season ticket renewal figures are, on top of a 10% reduction, the only inference anyone should take is what comes out of the club. That message is cutting our cloth.

I came out of the Proact yesterday very happy. It didn't make me think the directors were going to pump millions in.

You know more than most Sean about the millions the owners pump in every season judging by your expert comments about our accounts, enough said?.

I only know what's in the public domain in the form of official documents or filings Finlay.

I can speculate with the best of them but try to be realistic.

If you were to say £8m a year that would probably be realistic and understate it over recent years. This is about new cash which covers all expenditure including capital expenditure and annual losses to keep the company solvent. My view is that It would not be outrageous to guess that the club will need at least another £8m in the current financial year if it continues to run the playing squad at current levels and without any significant big new signings.

In the Championship the television money would boost income by about £5m or so but of course the cost of players needed up there would be way more.

Fans should realise that the owners will already be anticipating such millions of losses and therefore hope and expect the manager to achieve objectives without shooting the losses higher. He has his stock in trade i.e. the players and he has to wheel and deal around contracts which are often inconvenient and stop him having the exact squad he would wish for. By summer 2017 he will have his own squad bar a couple, if he is still with us.

Hope that helps Finlay, it comes with the usual 'guesswork' warnings but it'll be thereabouts.

Phipps said at the press conference- to make money.

No idea how you would manage that in football these days but I assume he thought he'd pick up a decent sized club on the cheap, pump minimal investment into it, get it to a higher level and the money could be made there.

Going well then isn't it!

As well as can be expected. Running a football club isn't easy for someone with no experience whatsoever who's taking advice from a bloke who hasn't had the best ten years and would probably admit himself has made a bit of a pig's ear of it.

Bush, fair comments. I really can't decide whether Mcabe has been monumentally unlucky (we've had our share) or monumentally incompetent (the Robson era). I suppose the truth is somewhere in between.

My worry is that if the Prince did buy in to make a quick buck, what if he decides to cut his losses?

Needed next season, to tread water with this season's state of play:

- injection of £8m from the owners
- sale of star player(s) amounting to £1.5m+
- cup runs generating £1m+
- squad players sold/sent out on loan, reducing contractual burden
- similar season ticket sales/week-to-week attendances

"Cutting our cloth" looks like a pretty stark warning of what to expect, finance-wise.

I wouldn't mind if we didn't spend big in the summer. The main thing for me is keep players like Che and keep developing them. Move those on that can't get a game (Howard, Harris, Kennedy, Freeman, Scougall, Cuvelier, J. Wallace, McNulty, JCR, McFadzean, Baxter, Sammon etc.). If we can even use some of those saved wages to bring in 3-4 players we might have a chance if we can continue to develop the Sharp and Adams partnership.

If we've going 352 next season and keeping McEveley, Hammond and Flynn we'll desperately need 2 quality CBs to play and possibly retain McGahey to be cover along with Wallace. We'll need another big man option to replace Sammon and we could ideally do with another good option for the LWB role and a mobile box to box midfielder and possibly an experienced GK to challenge Long.

Will we have room in the budget for it? Can Turnbull find us a bargain or 2? Can Whiteman, Reed, DCL etc. step up and provide some quality displays to help us on our way?

I'm hoping he will have his squad (or the vast majority!) by the end of summer 2016. If he hasn't he certainly won't be here by the summer of 2017

Without a super-rich owner, then things do look grim. We can all speculate on why things keep going wrong for SUFC, or what was the turning point, but thinking about recent history (for me, anyway), the biggest disaster was not going all-in and getting another in-form, productive striker, to back up Ched Evans. If we had someone else, at the time, who could score on a regular basis, then Ched's impending prison term would not have been the disaster that it was for us.

Other factors came into play of course; McDonald's injury, Maguire's red card, etc., but that season was ours for the taking, and it had to be the Pigs waiting in the wings for us to trip up......

The past 9 years of Sheffield United condensed:

"We've been relegated from the Premiership and now have to cut our cloth accordingly"

"We've failed to gain promotion from the Championship and therefore with the sale of key assets, we have to cut our cloth accordingly"

"We now have to face the realities of being relegated from the Championship and must cut our cloth accordingly"

"Having failed to gain promotion from League 1, we now must cut our cloth accordingly"

......Do you see where this is going?

Fuck all cloth left?

Perhaps I'm being naive, but I don't think that just because we won't have much of a budget should hinder us in challenging for promotion. Indeed we've already accepted that apart from Wigan, all the other teams currently above us, don't have money to throw around either. I would expect the first team squad to be trimmed quite drastically but I would hope the management team are already looking at possible out of contract players from elsewhere and quality long term loans. I think the key is going to be just how good our manager is at doing his job.

I can't get my head round why they're having to put £8m a season in.

I think we're down to a handkerchief at this stage.

Not quite as bad as I thought then, I'd got a few fibres in mind. We need some excitement don't we, a Chairman being chased by Inspector Clouseu from Interpol or a He / She / He fuck knoes what. Kevin doing an inverted Ritchie Rich and the Invisible Prince is getting a bit old ;)

You missed out the Nigerian "investor" Mr Esan who abruptly vanished like a fart in the breeze.

I hope to god we didn't give him our account details

I did didn't I? I think he must have hoodwinked the whole of Sheffield though. I remember him being given the whole "Guest of Honour" thing at a Sheffield Steelers game too.

I know you did mate, but Rik Mayall was always funnier than Macaulay Culkin, and that character is probably closer to our real state of affairs, i.e., skint!

Rik Mayall was brilliant to be fair.

To be honest our form has improved since numbers have been fewer.

Can't be easy to motivate a group when 60% have no chance of getting near the pitch.

Don't forget the whole Channel 4 Dispatches stitch up with the undercover Malaysian/Far East mystery investor that never was as well a couple of years back.
