And to be even fairer, with our track record of manager appointments, when is there ever a time we can give the money to the right man?

We seem to be a nothing short of a fkin disaster

If we aren't going to trust a guy who was appointed soley on his record of promotions from this level then we may as well just give up.

The Invisible Prince has said further significant funds are now only going to be available once we are in the Championship, so it's over to Mcbullshit to run the show and he always speaketh with forked tongue.

For the record McBullshit is a cautious business man with absolutely no guts to take a risk when it comes to investment policy in the football side, we will be attempting it on the cheap, make no mistake about that, he and his lackeys are gambling that this level is so bad we will never be in danger of relegation and we may just fluke a promotion through the play offs.

So for all the talk from people like WWF that we should look at SUFC post 2013, we appear to have gone back to how we were with minimal input from old Prince, who appears to have got bored, found a better job at home and can't be arsed with his play thing.

My son has a similar regard to his toys. The difference being my son is 6.

Do you think it may have crossed his mind when he photo bombed George Osbourne's trip to China what the speculation might be?

I'd be surprised if it didn't but I wasn't aware he'd even mentioned it and it was just all Internet conjecture.

As for the Prince, he said at the time he was given his Government job he wouldn't be able to spend time over here. That's why he's not at games. After this season and £14 million quid though hes probably glad he hasn't seen us.

There's no problem with the budget, the problem is with the way Clough blew it on average third division players.

Of course I hope others continue to pump millions in, but as ever our inability to invest wisely is overshadowed by people complaining that our enormous wagebill isn't enormous enough.

...this is where we were at before Princey arrived on the scene with his 'game changing investment'.(changed the game for McCabe)

McCabe saying he couldn't put any more in, cut yer cloth etc...mebbe they're both on the same page now or mebbe Princey has drawn a line in the sand ( sorry, couldn't resist that one)

Shame they wasted the money on Clough in his second season. I can see why as it was looking great at the end of 13/14. Still, I think they need to back Adkins. If they don't then we're only going to be down here longer or Adkins will really have to pull something mad out of the hat. As it looks right now with the budget, we won't be making top 2.

Not going up this season will make it officially the worst period in our entire history i.e. most consecutive seasons outside the top 2 divisions. I'd love to hear Kev's views on that.

But we got a new ethos instead. :)

First and foremost, excellent result today, and one that I'm sure club legends Chris Morgan...and, erm, Danny Wilson will not have enjoyed.

But Nigel Adkins pre match interview was a real worry for me, and casts major doubt on our chances next season.

Talking about the players we have already taking up next seasons budget and cutting our cloth accordingly are incredibly worrying and clearly preparing us for what next season will be like

I can't believe cutting our cloth has come up again, after several years failing to get out of a shit division. The last time the owners talked like this we got ourselves relegated.

What is the Prince's move here? He's only here to try and make money and he'd only come close to doing that should we be in a higher division, but we look set to continue the cost cutting exercises of this season.

How is it possible that we can't compete with the likes of Burton, Wigan and Gillingham?

They'll be backed by another strong following next year, surely we can put together a reasonable squad with players from this league and below on sensible wages for sensible fees?

Surely these successful businessmen can see this too?
The Prince realises he's been had. McCann is sitting back putting f all in whilst the prince has doubled however many millions already. .My guess is the rumour about the prince asking kev to match him in the transfer market and kev refusing is correct so nobody is spending any money.

This leaves an impasse at board level, the prince won't put more money in without either it being matched or mccabe selling the club to him. Mccabe has no more money to put in and either won't sell or can't get what he wants for it.

Everyone should remember there has been only one constant throughout this decade of decline....and I'd rather we'd gone bankrupt before anyone trots that shite out...ask Leicester and Southampton fans about that !

My guess is next season it will be significantly lighter. If the Prince has sunk £14m in then in all honesty in 2016 that isn't that much, With owners expected to cough up £40m-£50m to do it properly we have once more apparently gone for the one bloke in town with deep pockets and short arms.

Has he said this publically anywhere? I haven't seen it.

Not that I'm aware of and looking at the actions of the spending since Clough left its clear that we're now not spending the sums we did under Clough. That said I think some are over-panicking here! I heard the interview and all Adkins said was that next season those players that are still under contract will still be taking up some of the budget because of their wages. I don't get why that has caused some to think that its panic stations. I think its realistic to think we'll spend money on maybe one or two transfer fees of moderate cost and the rest will be frees. We still have a decent team for next season and its basically the same as when Clough left in that we just need two maybe three quality players. We didn't manage it last season, partly because Adkins was hamstrung with the bloated squad from Clough's reign and half the squad has got pissed off not playing regularly.

Teams like Gillingham and Walsall have done well under smaller budgets than ours and they haven't been backed more than we have, far from it, its just that they have some decent talent and they don't have the pressure we have, or having to face teams raising from their normal level playing against us, and that is a negative factor for us. The teams coming down look stronger too, but as we know teams don't often bounce straight back from getting relegated into League One.

I'm a big fan of all this money we spent under Clough. Was that the money that was earned from 2 cup runs and the sale of Harry McGuire for £2.5m or something? Now, assuming Clough used all that money he still had us in balance. Big Jim has said somewhere that the players were bought from that money.

So if we are being fair, he earned his own transfer kitty no?

Only if the cup money and the Harry money added up to the wages and transfer fees for 20 odd players, as that's how many he managed to bring in. Bearing in mind Clough mentioned needing a squad of around only 19 first team players, I can only assume we started the season without a first team squad

I'm not faulting Clough for spending the money and the post was more about next season mate. Clough spent the money on quantity not quality in most cases but that's another story! On a side note, I see that Burton fans are now questioning his tactics of one dwarf up front, in a 4-5-1 system! So pleased we don't have Clough in charge.

Ha ha well said!

Of course you hope that hiring a good manager allows you to cut the budget and improve the playing staff. It doesn't have to be mutually exclusive.
No one can try to make the case that given we have one of the largest wage bills that we've punched that weight so I'm actually expecting us to cut a lot of deadwood adrift and bring in untested but hungry talent on lower wages. Clearly our recruitment team also need to take responsibility for wasting millions and step up next year. A lot of improvements all round is required on and off the pitch and it's the boards job to ensure they've got the right people in place to meet the expectation.

Do you not think plenty of players left too , with their transfer fees and wages ?
