Time to Break the Pattern: Don't Sell Che!

One or two know alls doubting Che's ability and potential.

Why have several Prem sides been scouting him ? The most recent being Liverpool on Saturday !

Why does this thread exist ? Why does it not relate to DCL / Louis Reed / Ben Whiteman ?

Truth is Che is a talent, albeit one that is young/raw and is by no means the finished article. Exactly the type that bigger clubs would be willing to chance a million or so on.

I see more in Che than I ever saw in Jordan Slew and he got his "big" move. Even though it turned to shit !!

And it's naive to think that if a half decent championship side comes knocking, with a seven figure offer and a big pay rise for the player that there is even the remotest of chances we could hold on to him. That's the rule of the jungle and as long as we remain in this god forsaken division, we are a sitting duck as regards keeping our best players.

Face it. Accept it.

He's as good as gone. Shame !!

Just curious but if a Liverpool scout was there on Saturday (I assume there are higher league scouts at the majority of games in the lower leagues each week), how do you know they were looking at Adams as opposed to one of the other players (from both sides) that played.? ( I would have thought they scout a player on numerous occasions before deciding to bid anyway)

Not having a go by the way .

I'm not sure Adams is that good yet, he's a long way from showing he has a footballing brain though he has undoubted skills and strength and scores certain types of goals, not all types.

Yesterday I rated him 8 but my season's average for him would be around 6.

If we are offered £3m plus this summer - snap their hands off and sign a partner for Sharp who can contribute 15 goals and 12 assists. That would cost way less than £3m and we could spend the change on a spine for the team.

Thing is we won't get any bids above £500k.

We always do the first bit but never the second. Heres something new, we sign someone who we know is good enough BEFORE we sell Adams. That way we win. Reality will be we sell Adams because ""we cant stop a player stepping up a level". Burton here he comes.

One of Liverpools senior scouts watched Che on Satdi. This follows positive reports from the underling scouts that have previously watched him.

Suppose:
  1. he is offered the chance of first team football in a higher division
  2. on a higher wage
  3. there is a bid
  4. we reject it
  5. he hands in a transfer request
Should we hold him to his contract?

Yep. Break the cycle and send a message to other clubs that we won’t have our pants pulled down.

Unless silly money is offered (say £3million+)

What if his contract states that we have to inform him of any bid/s and it is his choice whether to move or stay?

He wasn’t a household name when signing the contract. He was just a teenager breaking into our team. If we gave him any such clause we must be unbelievably stupid. He’s not Kevin McDonald.

As a fan it shouldn't matter what price we could get for him, it won't be reinvested into transfer funds for the manager to use.

Che is the only player I hope we don't lose in the summer. He's getting better and better and I can see him really taking off next season after a full season of experience as a professional footballer.

Whilst I don’t disagree, I thought that would happen this season after seeing him dominate Newcastle’s defenders in that friendly. Turns out I could have done that to their defenders.

He’s been disappointing more often than not this season but he has had some good games and continued to show flashes of real potential. Whilst he’s not indispensable to the first team yet, he has the potential to be our best player.

He needs to get his head down and make the most of that potential and stick with us where he can get first team football for at least another year. He’s nowhere near ready to play at a higher level. He’s only just good enough for our first team as it stands.

Sacking Clough and entourage and paying them off
Buying the Beard
Buying Done
Hiring Adkins and his team on a three year contract
Funds for Hammond
Personally financing the club at £8m per year
Second highest wage bill(?) in the division

etc

Do the board lack ambition?

It seems to come in fits and bursts and at the wrong time. Quantity over quality is an issue. Massive wages on unwanted championship players instead of paying fees to lure up and coming players from smaller clubs is also an issue. We looked to be turning a corner at one point when we signed the likes of Baxter, Cuvelier, Scougall etc. but seem to have been deterred by their patchy performances. Even though those three haven’t worked out brilliantly, it’s a strategy I’d like to see more of. If we’re looking at unwanted players from above, I’d rather we go for youngsters who didn’t make the cut like Swindon did with Byrne or like we did with Blackman. Players like Ryan Innis, Uche Ikpeazu, Josh Brownhill, Connor Coady, Ben Pearson, Daniel Johnson etc. have all dropped down to this level and looked very useful. But once we get those players playing consistently well, it’s imperative we hold onto them for a while.

I'm fine with selling any player at any time so long as the money goes to new players or a better replacement, this however doesn't happen at the lane does it, we get inferior players in, old boys on frees, and other peoples donkeys like Sammon, Then the fee we got for the starlet goes on player wages...

Mcabe/prince/whoever.....decide to pay player wages from selling off the talent, that's why we can't build a team, and can't get out of league one...

New owners needed, ones with ambition, not ones who talk a load of shit but don't ever back it up...

I disagree. We can’t replace sold players with better or equal quality because any player of that level will be wanted by clubs in the championship or higher. That means we’re left looking for potential to develop (Adams, Wallace, McGahey etc.) or fringe players from above. Neither are likely to be as effective as holding on to the player who is performing. Yes there is a risk of player performance dipping, player being a mardy arse etc. but I’d rather take that financial risk than to keep spunking money on the wages of wasters.

Selling Che would be different to the selling of Blackman, McDonald, Maguire and Murphy because he isn't our 'best' player, whereas they all were. People will come in for Che, 10 goals for a 19 year old is pretty decent and he might get a couple more before the seasons done. I think we have to keep him because the club doesn't seem to reinvest the transfer money efficiently and he will no doubt improve on next season and become a more rounded player.

I agree that 10 goals for a 19 year old is decent. But I find it strange that people then argue that 9 goals for a 21 year old in an awful relegated championship team is shit when trying to support the argument that Evans was only decent for a season in league 1.

There is absolutely no way we can keep Che Adams, if a Premiership team come calling, fact.

We can only hope the club get the proper fee, with add ons.

Ha. Do you really think, if anyone was so stupid to offer us £3m for Che (and overlook the fact that we sell decent players for bobbar money) that McCabe would even be 2% straight with the supporters about the fee?

He'd be: "Yup, £2.9m to buy some decent boardorom furniture, another new pitch and erm ... some Love Hearts ... I like Love Hearts, me ... and £100k to buy seventeen players who'll end up sat in the stand or banned on a drugs charge."

How much? Oh. 'Undisclosed.'
