How we didn't win by three or four goals I don't know! When we were losing with just a couple of minutes left it felt like such an injustice. Our best home performance last season in my opinion.

That starting XI managed v Clough versus

Long
Baptiste Edgar Basham
Brayford Hammond Flynn Coutts Done
Sharp Adams

managed by Adkins.

Who wins?

Correct, Adkins hasn't helped himself at times but the pro Clough brigade overlook the fact if you take Jamie Murphy out of last seasons side we had a pretty average team.

Would we have made the play offs last season without Murphy?

Yeah there are a couple that won't have it but the loss of Murphy is a bigger reason for our regression from last season than the change of manager. Put Murphy in our team over the course of this season and I'm convinced we'd be on as many or more points than last season.

Dour 0-0 unless Murphy provides a bit of matchwinning magic like he did in the game in question.

what a game that was, i could almost see that gillingham goal coming because we had bombarded that goal & thought of course goal of season contender goes in, but that murphy still 1 of my favourite moments at bramall lane last few yrs great run & then lost my mind decide to run towards jamie murphy in front of me but neice was beside me so in heat of the moment ended up picking her up on the run like a rugby ball & carried on going :D

Jamie Murphy was sold to Brighton on the 14th August 2015, 17 days before the transfer window "slammed shut".
A big loss to any team but nine months on, who has the manager signed to try and replace him?

Knowing what a massively important player Murphy was for us, a replacement should have been high on his list of priorities.
We may not have been able to replace him with a player of similar quality but we haven't even recruited anyone for his position.
Woolford isn't remotely like a similar type of player and neither are any of the manager's five other signings.

I was at that game and we could have been 6-0 up before they scored. Full marks to the team that day to keep going and comeback and win. Interestingly, Higdon came on that day and made a difference including scoring a good goal. Murphy's goal was one of the best I've seen at the Lane.

That Murphy goal was sublime

His best in a United shirt, I'd say (better even than his Donny goal).

Ah, memories, though... The days when we thought Higdon would turn out quite decent, & before we realised the opposition simply had to shoot very hard and for the shot to be on target & Mark Howard would merrily have a flap at the ball as it sailed past him...

Here is the difference for me (below), look at the clip again and look at the pace, how fast we have players charging into the area

Doyle
Murphy (90'+7)
Davies
J Wallace

I think we've only signed Hammond and Baptiste since Murphy went and Adkins said he wanted a winger too. Both signings were in positions where we needed strengthening. I'm sure he'd have liked to sign a good winger as well. Unfortunately, you can't bring in proven quality of Murphy standard whilst in this league as they get offers from the championship. Which is why it's all the more important to fight to hold onto them when you unearth/develop one.

It seems to be another issue that our board hasn't grasped. If our best players want to leave or we get a good offer, then I understand they have to be sold, but at least try and bring a replacement in. Blackman, McDonald, Quinn, Maguire, Murphy etc

No, just put out a press release about how we were going to sell him anyway because the previous manager had said we've got a replacement already at the club.
Bullshit Lies And Deceit Every Season.

It's frightening that we're now looking at a Clough team and saying "look at the pace".

So we're basically saying there is nothing between the teams bar Murphy an yet then we were great and now we are shit. It cant be Adkins fault tho, its the shit squad Clough left us......

And Ben Davies had pace, don't remember James Wallace being particularly fast, but I could be wrong.

Things have clearly gone downhill since Higdon stopped getting a starting place. Makes you feel all nostalgic.
