I had the pleasure of seeing the both play. I also sat next to Joe Shaw on the 35 bus. Was too much in awe to speak to him.
Must be from the Hollythorpe area.
Wonder if our paths ever crossed.
I went to Carfield school, 1946-1952 and then to Rowlinson.

Not disagreeing with you Rufus 'cos I didn't see the interview but if Shankly was choosing his three favourite players I am sure Tom Finney would have been among them. He always raved about Finney - I think they were at Preston at the same time.

Shankly was quoted on more than one occasion as saying Peter Doherty, the Irish international, was the greatest player he'd ever seen.

I was at Bramall Lane yesterday after being asked by the Senior Blades to give a talk on my father's career. It was the first time I had ever done this and I was a bit nervous about it all. I can say categorically that I was welcomed by the most friendly, knowledgeable bunch of people that I have come across. There were two 93 year olds who knew far more about my father than I did and I found it to be an amazing experience, as did my 33 year old son, who was surprised by the whole thing. Just another thing for all of you to be proud of is the fact that the senior blades are in the top 3 in the country when it comes to membership numbers. All of you out there who are over 60, are eligible and for £4 a year (yes, four pounds), it is fantastic value for money.

As a fairly recent recruit to Senior Blades I was at your talk yesterday. I found it very interesting, informative and any nerves you had were well hidden! At the conclusion of your talk, my friend and I were particularly impressed with the piece of film shot in snowy conditions - conditions one rarely sees nowadays and a noticeable lack of gloves, leggings, woolly hats etc.

Incidentally, Senior Blades have a £5 discount on the Season ticket price which makes membership even better value for money!

How do you join, I can't see any links on the OS

Not surprising to me that so many attend, I would if I was nearer the Lane.
The attendance shows the Blades passion at whatever age.

Moving onto the present fixtures
when the Wednesday can only command some 21000 to a fixture when they are within shout of the premiership and we command 19000 for a league 1game after being stuck in this division for 5 years is it any wonder our fans deserve better that the present situation.

I will never for get going into the shop on London Road to purchase some Subbuteo kit and being served by Jimmy.
My Dad used to deliver mail to his home address on Holythorpe estate and often have a brief chat.

The book is excellent, well researched by Roger Barnard, Broomhill blade and having a number of books on Sheffield
United including biographies ,this is probably the most enjoyable.
Unfortunately I was not at the Lane to obtain a signed copy.

Always good to be a Blade despite present frustrations.

He was my Dads favourite player. I was lucky to meet him at Abbeydale where he was guest of honour with his wife.

I got the programme signed by him, Joe Shaw and Tony Currie. Nice memento now in a frame.
