I would be embarrassed and ashamed if a manager brought on a young rookie before me to play up front . Then I would think , I am getting well paid, could be on my way at the end of the season , why should I care a shit .

Perhaps too many I couldn't care a shit thinking .

To be Honest, Bos, I think this has been the biggest issue all season. Too easy and simplistic to look at it and say, this lot finished 5th last season, well below that this season, therefore the manager is shit. I'd say the biggest factor between the two seasons isn't a different manager, but a different attitude in most of the squad. Very hard to manage, especially if you aint getting much help to get rid of it.

I still consider that to be part of the Manager's remit; to manage the attitude of the squad. I make no apology for using Neil Warnock as an example - one look at Rotherham's disjointed squad complete with favourites and "frozen-outs", and the transformation into what they are today, tells me there's a manager who knows how to communicate with players and convince them to believe in their own potential, snap out of their sulks and woes, and get playing together.

Don't disagree, but I think the SUFC version is x5 the Millers one, and it seems that Warnock has 100% backing of the board.

Yes, I think our two benefactors need to forget about their sulks and woes, and get on with it

or fuck off

They are not doing much to save their own careers are they.

Fair point, but was it x5 in June?

The potential for it to happen was there. The chance to avert a good part of it was there. The big question is whether Adkins was told to do what he can with that big squad, many of whom were in the last year on contract (fresh start for all, I'll assess everyone in the squad) or was he told something different (no money, get rid first before you bring in anyone) or did he decide that off his own back? All I would say on that matter is that almost all managers like to work with their own players.

Jesus christ. The manager gave him a total of 6 minutes on the pitch so it must be his fault.

No matter how hard a striker works and tries, if midfield doesn't even look forward to pass the ball then strikers cannot get involved in the game.

Sammon has faults and has few attributes but hiding is not in his make-up. By the time he came on last night nobody was doing anything right.

Exactly...

I remember Matt Done's debut. He ran around like a headless chicken for about 15 minutes, chasing lost causes (but for the good don't get me wrong, I wish all our players would press like he does) without touching the ball. Then he scored with his first touch.

It gets more difficult if the only sensible move is to get rid if just about all your players, and they are coming to the end of their contracts.

Lots of them look like employees who've been served redundancy notices and are seeing their time out. So many so that the situation is almost unique.

I'm not sure what Adkins can do about that.

That I can agree with...

And this is a big part of the problem, in my mind. I think it's a modern fallacy, managers believing it is their right to completely rebuild a squad. Not a perfect analogy, but imagine that happening in industry. Also, with the average managerial tenure being around 18 months, and player contracts usually being 2 years plus an option, it's a formula that doesn't work.

I would see its more noteworthy that while trialing the game, we did not get it up to our strikers enough.

That wasn't the case last June, though. Adkins has allowed this to happen. He's allowed players to disengage with the club.

Plus time added on, takes it to 10 minutes

I wonder if the manager realises he takes a bit of time to get "involved"

Probably should have put him on earlier ........................................

Out of curiosity, how many times did Sharp touch the ball when Sammon was on? What about Adams? Bet you don't know the answer..... ?????

No club should start the season with sixteen players out of contract at the seasons end.

Well, Billy hit the post...

edit: Adams, sorry.

I know he did. My point to Worksop was that Sammon may not have touched the ball but how many times did the others around him touch the ball and under what circumstance? DCL gathered it deep and wide on a few occasions but Sammon wasn't thrown on to run the channels and come deep for the ball. If we didn't supply the ball to him, how will he touch it?

All true. It's the fact that he's consistently ineffective. And Adkins' persistence with him, as well as his substitutions, is baffling. Pointing out that he didn't touch the ball in 10 minutes perfectly encapsulates all three of those issues. You read it as a personal dig at Connor Sammon - I see it more as a general head-in-hands observation.

He definitely caught it when the ref blew for full-time!

I didn't see that, but would wager he didn't jump for it...

Don't knock it, it's the one positive for the season we have left! Get rid of the shite and start over.
