For those who think keeping NC was the answer.

I meant the season he was sacked

The season he was sacked, with 4 games to go we were 5th. He was sacked with us being 6 points off 2nd. Winning 2 of those remaining 4 would have put us level on points with 2nd, assuming none of the teams above us got a single point.

We may well have faired better under Wilson in the playoffs but we'd have had to get 10 points from a possible 12 (plus increased our goal difference) to claw our way into the automatic places. That was never going to happen.

Or should we include the games he was not in charge of to make it sound like he's doing better than he actually is ?

Clough was not in charge for the Gillingham game! FACT
Lets call it New manager syndrome also known as Dead cat bounce!

He inherited a side getting 2.1 pts a game

The correct stats are
P14 W7 D3 L4 Pts 24 equates to 1.7 pts a game. Or 79. pts

His last 10 games are W4 D2 L4 Pts 14 1.4 pts a game equates to 66 pts

last 6 games just 4 goals
2.1 ,1.7, 1.4.

I just took the total games managed stat from Wikipedia.
Garner and Crosby were actually in charge at Gillingham, so still Clough's staff in charge.
Did they adjust Mouhrino's stats when he was banned from the Stadium?

Either way, I wish we were only averaging 1.7 points a game or 79 points a season.
I bet Sean O'Driscoll, Walsall and most teams in the league wish they were averaging that too.

Therein lies the perils of relying on wiki!

Everyone one and the dog knew Garner was going to be Caretaker Manager for the Gillingham game
The Chairman knew it when he appointed Clough. Clough knew it, Garner knew it..
They even announced it on their website!
Clough's first game in charge was Doncaster period,.

That Garner must be a reight manager then. 100% win record averaging 3 goals a game.
Extrapolated over a season that's 138 points and 138 goals.
Get him in!

I've only just woke up but am I still dreaming, 5 pages about nigel clough..?

It wasn't a great decision for the club because of the now very obvious loyalties from our current players to him, but the board made a decision probably about financial decisions (murphys sale) a row erupted and the club parted ways..

But Come on guys, he put himself first before the team, that made it also the case of putting his feelings before those of the fans and the board as well, the whole club could take a running jump for all he cared, he was way too stubborn..

Collins sat in the stand and we needed a centre half, no striker on the pitch mcnults sat on the bench, Nigel two has lost it in my opinion, Nigel one wasn't any better or worse than him..

If you want to regret anything regret warnock being sacked so mcabe didn't have to pay him his bonus, look at the impact a decent management team can have, you know quality no nonsense no bullshit approach, give a player a task and make em stick to it, everybody fights, we lose, we lose fighting, not the bullshit were taking of this clown about endeavour... And I don't want warnock back, just somebody like him who is a winner, and strong enough to tackle our board with the facts...

Arguing about the mediocre..

Ooooooooops!!

What's his recent record looking like at the moment?

It seems to me if Walsall take advantage of their games in hand then Mr Clough could be on the verge of throwing promotion out of the window Burton.

The difference being, we were 4/1 favourites to win the league and Burton were 33/1 no hopers.

I'd hazard a guess that if Jose Mourinho took over Leicester City right now, they would blow the title. When one manager is getting a team to overachieve by quite some distance, there's no reason to think any manager taking over will keep it going. They may do, but the chances are they will find it difficult. If the look at the form table for the last 10 games, Burton still have more points than we do.

W2L2D1 according to Soccerway. The same as us.

If you take into account points per game from When clough took over in his first season to the points per game he achieved in his second season i think you will find he got worse. That is after he had free reign to sign a boat load of his own players too
What you say is true. It's also true that Wilson had to slash the budget enormously, and Clough was given lots of resource to build. It's not fair to talk about relative progress without factoring that in.

All this debate, simple fact is any manager who finishes a season in the third division with SUFC looking at the next season in the third has failed.

On top of the debate you referred to, Wilson, although he had a better team than Clough, his team was also in a better standard of league with better sides who also had better budgets, Clough didn't have to deal with that, he should've had enough budget to work with, he wasted huge chunks of his budget on non priorities, he never sorted the priorities out such as the CB issue and the whole spine of the team. Admittedly, the season before Coady and Maguire was a huge part of this but again, he had enough money to at least try to replace those two players more adequately than he did.

Wilson and Clough is an hard one to judge on the whole because we only hear little snippets compared to what goes on behind closed doors.

I really didn't see any FL Chairman being mad enough to employ Clough again. I'd forgotten about the last chance saloon of Burton.
Clough now has already started briefing his press chums in the Nottingham Post.. There he trowels on the sugary bollocks of how he 'sees Forest as his club' and would love the chance to manage the club of which he 'holds the deepest affection '. He conveniently lets slip that he has a 'no compo' clause written into his Brewers contract. Of course it is obvious why he got this into his contract in the first place and why he is now making all this public.
He is doing everything he can to cash in his managerial stocks now before they crash again , another big pay before he is found out for the utter incompetent chuff he really is.

He knows that he has presided over a big slide in the Brewers fortunes. If somehow they squeak promotion, next season they are nailed on certs for relegation.
He knows he hasn't the money, players, goals, tactics, or aptitude in player recruitment to keep them up.
He also know if he fails to win promotion then next season, the Brewers (like Chesterfield last season ) will lose a few of the better players and they will be nowhere near auto promotion.

Talk about maxing it to the nth degree.
There's only so many time you can live off your fathers name.

W3, D4, L3 Goals scored 9
Last 5:

Just listened to the post Barnsley game interview.
"It's important to not concede the first goal"
Not as important as trying to score the first one it would seem Nige.
