This lad Diego?

For some reason there seems to be an injustice going on here, or is it just Adkins getting it wrong yet again.

Adkins and Clough are very different managers in terms of style, and both seemed happy to give youth a go – Adkins even more so. At some stage we have to stop asking "what's wrong with the managers since they aren't picking Diego?" and start accepting that it's probably actually the player that isn't doing enough to warrant a place in the squad.

I can't help but think that if he was that good, we'd probably already have sold him. Where has he been, York and somewhere else (sorry, memory playing tricks)? You'd have thought that by now he'd have developed enough to at least look the part at that level. And if I recall correctly he hasn't pulled any trees up in his loan spells either.

If he was called Bill Smith he'd already be playing for the Dog & Duck.

Where as Hammond and coutts haven't even had a decent game, nevermind Sammon. What was it Adkins said about pathways from the reserves?

That’s not true at all. Coutts was our best player for a few weeks over the xmas period and Hammond has had a fair few decent games (most recently Vale and Oldham). Sammon also had some decent ones earlier in the season but his confidence seems shot and I think he’s finished here.

I think it's pretty obvious that Adkins wants players to act in a professional manner at all times to earn your place.

Some players don't deserve a starting spot based on their talent but he wants the younger players to develop a professional attitude to enable them to represent the club on the pitch. I see no harm in him wanting players to conduct themselves correctly.

Sorry Daz, I know, couldn't help myself. Nice avatar by the way even though I'm a NYR man myself ;)

AAAAAAAARRRRRRRRRGGGGGGGGGGGGGHHHHHHHHHHH!!!!!!!!!!!!!

Why do I keep seeing this argument!!!!

Does anyone really believe that our fans or people involved in football are so

a) stupid and

b) racist

as to think that somebody is a better player than they are on the basis of being Italian?

The reason he is hyped is because he was a very highly rated prospect who excelled at youth level apparently prompting admiring glances from huge squad. Now, for whatever reason, he’s failed to carry that into the adult game so far. Whether it’s down to injury, attitude, lack of physical strength and aggression or a combination I don’t know but the “if his name was….” Point just really gets on my tits as it’s so lazy and incredibly untrue.

What about if his name was Ronaldo Pele?

And would Hal Robson-Kanu been a footballer if his name had been Hal Collins-Nosworthy?

He's fit, strong and working hard, doesn't have an attitude problem either, i played with the kid for 10 years he's the most talented footballer at the club. WHEN he gets told to stay between the 18 yard box and score goals he will.

Wouldn't surprise me if he went to Chesterfield Danny Wilson was a huge fan.

Never doubt the ability of a footballer to make a tit of themselves on the Internet.

Was feeling sorry for the lad as he should be in front of Sammon but you can't go and do this.

He (Sammon) doesn't need confidence to try and intercept a ball rather than stand and watch it, or try to jump higher than 4 inches off the ground to win a header.

Diego just might be one of these players who shine at u21 level but just cannot make the step up to first team level . No doubt he has been tried and tested in training and behind closed door matches .

Just look at how many U21 international players do not make the grade . The kid is brilliant at free style but just lacks the requirements for a team game . He has had long enough to sort his game out IMO.

If he was going to Chesterfield I think he would have gone by now . He is definatley at the cross roads and do hope he makes it . We have spent a lot of money on him , helped him through a major injury , so he owes us one with pay back time to get his head down ,and deliver what he is paid to do.

Football is ruthless but also very rewarding , open to a chosen few. Pity to waste it.

Bit daft to post on Twitter but even more ridiculous for our manager not to give him a chance.

Pathway for the youngsters? Yeah right. What more can he do than score consistently in the under 21s. Still, we've got Conor Sammon who played well against Peterborough 6 months ago so is well worth his place in the squad.

It's time to give him a chance IMHO and perhaps overlook a bit of immaturity through frustration.

Fact is:

DeGirolamo - scored 5 goals in his last 4 outings for the U21s.

Sammon - last goal was in 2015.

Let's help ourselves here. One isn't going to get you a goal. Let's give a chance to the one who actually might.

The lad seems to know where the goal is,wouldn't hurt to give him a chance...at least worth a place on the bench for me...wish he'd keep off Twitter though.

At least Diego's tweet #shambles went under the radar...........

The comment from McEveverly 'you can't come into the first team thinking you are Billy Big Bollocks' was quite revealing and certainly the use of the tweet in the article and Shield referring to attitude and use of social media.

It could start to explain his non appearance on the pitch or on the bench. A real shame, bags of talent and I hope things work out for the lad.

that's fucking rich coming from him.

if i was diego and banging in goals right left and centre and seeing wankers like hammond, woolford and sammon being picked instead of me i'd be tweeting as well.

Why what's that going achieve? He should be approaching the manager and asking him what he needs to do/change in order to get in the team, instead of crying about on twitter like a child.

With all the dog shit abuse the bloke McEverely has taken , hats off to the bloke . It's about being professional in what you do both on and off the pitch . Ok he may not be good enough for a promotion winning side , but he ain't a billy big bollocks , as Diego is certainly giving a good impression that he is.

Both may not be good enough , but at least one is trying his hardest , the other with bucket loads of talent , is coming across he ain't good enough , not with talent but with attitude.

Don't rate McEverly but if it was a swipe at Diego , it's only what the majority of fans are thinking , and also it appears senior pros at the club . For any young player , show talent , attitude and commitment , you have a chance .
Diego has done fuckall to date , and playing in u21 games is light years playing in the first team .

Chesterfield , Mansfield and a non league club interested in taking him on loan - tells all .

Hope Diego makes it , like we all do , but it's up to him , everyone one is IMO routing for him to succeed , but the lad does not help himself .

perhaps he did. do you know what has gone on. All i know is this. Adkins has a bunch of favourites mainly old pros who should be nowhere near the first team. He doesn't like any of our talented youngsters questioning what is going on. (Adams, DiMaio etc)

In that case, we can't be friends.

And i'm a penguins fan..beat the rangers and the flyers this week!!

but jokes aside - Diego should be given a chance, providing there's actually a point to this u21 team. he's a much much better player than Reed, DCL and Whitman.

He's done well, for York and against Preston, barely given a sniff since.

He can't go, the u24 player rule is okay until situations like this and the player can't leave because the club hold them ransom for about 300k.

He doesn't owe a lot, at all. no player does.
