Discussing treatment of Blades fans after the match

The Blades fans didn't help matters by chanting "Harry Roberts is our Friend" and "We Hate Coppers" as we were waiting for them to open the gates. I was right by the incident where the cop's helmet was stolen. The behaviour by our fans was provocative to say the least.

Apart from the result, though, it was a top day out.

They don't help themselves by shouting "We can't let you do this" and "We can't let you do that" right before letting you do this or that. As I got through the second gate I started heading past a line of coppers to a place where I was meeting some others for a drink. This copper on horseback bellows at me that I can't go that way, that I had to get on the train. I explained that I only wanted to go round the corner and he bellowed at me again. I explained my situation again and started walking in the direction I wanted to go and the copper bellows "Let him through!" Why waste time like that?

There were clearly Millwall fans on the platforms after the game ended. The police were obviously waiting for them to clear off out of London Bridge before allowing away fans to board the train. To be honest I though the police showed admirable restraint especially when faced by several pissed up Yorkshiremen. Having said that a bit more information wouldn't have gone amiss. Very funny when the train announcer gave connecting train information to Sheffield "Wednesday" supporters. Tossbag.

Doubt I'll be back in a hurry, some nice pubs round London Bridge, during second queue to get out and some goading from home fans up on station a bloke near me compared it to Afghanistan. Many thanks to those on the 17:44 - last carriage - for letting this old feller have a seat.

We had a fab day out at Millwall on Saturday - with the obvious exception of the result....!
Drove to the Novotel at Greenwich, parked up and then did the naval walk around Blackheath and Greenwich including a visit to the Cutty Sark followed by a couple of cracking boozers in Greenwich.
Taxi to Bermondsey, collected us at 5.30pm and dropped us back in Greenwich no problem.
Topped off the day by drowning our sorrow with copious amounts of real ale and some scram in Davys Wine Vaults
Fell into snuggleland around midnight
Would recommend this plan to Blades for next season - there's no way Millwall are going up...!

That was the great thing about attending Uni in Greenwich (hence the name, folks, just in case anyone thought I was wealthy enough to live there); the views, the walks, the restaurants, the pubs. In the Cup Run of 2003 my ritual was to take my radio and headphones, sit by the Cutty Sark and tune into the Monday lunchtime FA Cup Draw.

The Cutty Sark is on my list of Favourite Things Ever, although the perfectionist in me struggles to get to grips with the fact that it is these days not quite the real thing, a bit like when the 'P' in ELP was 'Powell'.

Talking of which, my entire ELP collection has been on the spin since our Keith dragged his Hammond off to that Great Gig In The Sky.

Actually I just used to sit on the bench in all weathers eating my butties and looking at the afore-mentioned tea clipper with the odd glance over to the Gypsy Moth pub, then a crane of the neck around to the real Gypsy Moth. Idyllic.

In Portsmouth once on a course I went to see HMS Victory for something to do. Despite having no real interest I have to admit I was mesmerised by it and was still sat there half an hour after closing until someone came and turfed me off.

SYP weren't impressed.

We explained the situation to one, that we wouldn't be getting on a train and that we would be going for a civilised drink* and he said to go to the other gate because, and I quote, "they will have to let you out eventually". Had a good whinge about how they'd tried to explain to the Met exactly how imprisoning United fans would go and then had a good whinge about the team as well.

Some pre-match bother with Leicester may have influenced their decision.
