I recently started a thread entitled “season over” and most people, me included think it is. But on paper at least, we are still challenging for the play offs. Looking at our remaining fixtures, I think that the Oldham game on Saturday really is our last chance. Anything other than a win would be too demoralizing to come back from.

However, we can improve our position over the next three games. If we beat Oldham at home, get something at Millwall, then beat Crewe at home, we’ll probably have made up some ground on 6th place, and could be only 3 points off the pace. Then the TV game against Southend and the following home games against Walsall and Gillingham will become interesting.

These are our remaining fixtures:

Sheff Utd V Oldham Sat 12 Mar

Millwall V Sheff Utd Sat 19 Mar

Sheff Utd V Crewe Fri 25 Mar

Southend V Sheff Utd Wed 30 Mar

Sheff Utd V Walsall Sat 2 Apr

Sheff Utd V Gillingham Sat 9 Apr

Chesterfield V Sheff Utd Sat 16 Apr

Shrewsbury V Sheff Utd Tue 19 Apr

Sheff Utd V Barnsley Sat 23 Apr

Coventry V Sheff Utd Sat 30 Apr

We only won three of the reverse fixtures (W3 D4 L4). That really doesn't bode well: most teams I'd hope would want to go out and put things right but I just can't see it with our spineless bunch.

Oldham 1-1 United (D)
United 1-2 Millwall (L)
Crewe 1-0 United (L)
United 2-2 Southend (D)
Walsall 1-1 United (D)
Gillingham 4-0 United (L)
United 2-0 Chesterfield (W)
United 2-4 Shrewsbury (L)
Barnsley 1-1 United (D)
United 1-0 Coventry (W)
Scunthorpe 0-1 United (W)

On paper (ie checkbook i wrote myself a cheque for a million pounds) but in reality i had got no chance. In reality the way our lot perform weve got as much chance of winning half of our remaining games as i have of cashing that check for a million quid.but.dkc. we can always live in hope

It's amazing how quickly the last 10 games come around.

My predictions...

Sheff Utd V Oldham - horrible Port Vale-esque 1-0 win

Millwall V Sheff Utd - 2-0 defeat

Sheff Utd V Crewe - 2-2 draw after being comprehensively outplayed

Southend V Sheff Utd - 1-1 - on Sky so our heroes put in a remarkable performance to earn a fantastic point

Sheff Utd V Walsall - 1-2 defeat, admirable fightback against an elite side but just not enough to get anything

Sheff Utd V Gillingham - 1-0 win, incredible effort, albeit against a Gills side in freefall

Chesterfield V Sheff Utd - 1-1 - spoils shared in the Danny Wilson derby, Dimaio scores for them and runs the game

Shrewsbury V Sheff Utd 2-1 defeat, back down to earth after the superb 4 point haul from the last two games

Sheff Utd V Barnsley - 2-3 defeat against an absolutely incredible Barnsley team

Coventry V Sheff Utd - 1-1 - taking advantage of Coventry's poor form to claim a memorable point

Sheff Utd V Scunthorpe - 1-0 - ending the season on a massive high by winning a thrilling Adkins derby

So 13 more points. More than enough for survival. Things are looking quite good after all.

Ahh your forgetting the points deduction for not having the dog chipped to comply with the new law.

A depressingly realistic estimate :(

Thanks 'Nigel' but we all know that it's over - for this season.

Blind faith alone is a complete waste of time.

This run of results would put us on 71 points, enough for 5th place last season

Sheff Utd V Oldham Sat WIN

Millwall V Sheff Utd Sat LOSS

Sheff Utd V Crewe Fri WIN

Southend V Sheff Utd DRAW

Sheff Utd V Walsall DRAW

Sheff Utd V Gillingham WIN

Chesterfield V Sheff Utd WIN

Shrewsbury V Sheff Utd WIN

Sheff Utd V Barnsley DRAW

Coventry V Sheff Utd DRAW

Sheff Utd V Scunthorpe WIN

We haven't gone 5 games without a defeat all season, even when we were up in 2nd place. The squad is in total disarray, plus we've lost 4 out of the last 7 games, what makes you think we can go the last 9 games unbeaten?

I mean...we COULD...but then i could win the euromillions and get a hot date with Scarlett Johansson on the same day. And to be honest, i rate the chances of those things happening quite a bit higher.

How many wins until we are mathematically safe ? Not much chance of us going down in reality but we do have a squad that could feasibly lose all those games

We’re 14 points off relegation and 6 off the play offs and people are talking about us going down? We've only lost 12 of our 35 games so far.

I do feel sorry for Adkins. The most positive, upbeat bloke in British football has been saddled with its most pessimistic, downbeat fans. I fear for his mental state if he’s here next season in L1.

I feel much more sorry for Adkins being saddled with a group of spineless, over paid players and a board that dont have a clue how to run a football club then I do for him having 20,000 pissed off supporters watching his team every week.
