Adkins out

Of course it's relevant. Without wanting to blow my own trumpet (i'm just telling the truth, however it comes across) you'd have to have a degree of intelligence to express as I say, what has now become a commonplace opinion months ago.

Whether you like it or not, there's no getting away from it. I suspect you'd agree had you been in a similar scenario on any particular subject. Since you aren't, you won't, which isn't exactly unpredictable.

You really wouldn't.
Anyway, I'm not getting into another tedious one with you, just wondered why you kept feeling the need to call others stupid.

well if its your logic its been shite all season every game , whats the logic in defending Adkins now

He is the man who selects the players employs the tactics decides the systems

I gave him the benifit early season as I said repeatedly he might have a plan once unfit players returned and the signings he could make
as he has failed miserably with noth of those too its time for him to go

I've explained my position numerous times and why I believe he shouldn't be sacked.

His lack of signings are completely board related. His own signings have been hit and miss but he's been allowed to sign 5 of them.
I think things will look different if he's allowed to clear out to dross and sign his own team.
And at some point we have to give a manager longer than one season to achieve their goals.

The problem is that a lot of the under performers are still under contract next season.

Brayford, Basham, Scougall, Coutts, Woolford, Done, Freeman & Wallace (still unclear on whether he got a 2 or 3 year deal) are still here next season. We will still have the same problems that they are all under performing and Adkins cannot find the solution.
Bench fillers at most. Hopefully.

he's a scouser and looks like a Wednesday manager. just saying.

That is the the big IF though isn't it? Having looked at Adkins here and elsewhere he seems to do well when good players are made available to him but he is not a manager who looks able to get better things out of average to poor players the way Bassett or Warnock could. (There are not many managers out there who can do that!)

We need a manager who is able to do the near impossible because I don't think funds to buy the sort of quality Adkins had to work with at Southampton are going to be on the table.

Yes, because of how he's acted and how he's managed to take a 5th placed squad, add some horrid signings and amateurish tactics and turned it into a 12th placed one. You must be pretty (in the kindest sense of the word) stupid if that's the man you want clearing out and rebuilding most of the squad in the summer.

Well cheers for that :)

Sometimes you have to ride it out with what you have when you know they are capable of achieving what you're after. Wonder what would have happened if we'd replaced Bassett and Warnock so quickly ?

Most people wanted Clough out after mass hysteria set in. Looks like a good decision that , he is now going to win the league and get promotion with someone else. Lets make the time a manager sets foot in a club and if no promotion signs in 5 months ,,then get rid . that would be interesting. We could have 2 managers a year to bawl at instead of one.
And think about all the shit players we could talk about. You could go on your holidays come back and a new manager and 11 new players installed............That's the future for football. Sod stability that's boring

Clough has inherited the foundations laid by Jimmy Hasselbiank. Good luck to him but the donkey work was done for him months ago. I'm all for stability as long as we have the right man. There are severe doubts that man is Adkins. We are heading for our second worst season in history with an expensive squad which he has added to with dross other than Billy. Tactically he has shown us nothing other than how inadequate he is. Bully and Che as target men, the beard at left back etc. Bury away and Burton last night being piss poor and on par with anything I've seen over the last 34 years (save for Weir v Hartlepool in the JPT) We have to take a long hard look at ourselves because the summer is a crossroads and with so many out of contract it's an opportunity for someone to build there own team. I have niggling reservations that Nigel's that man

I dont get all this "he inherited a shit squad" rubbish, Bottom line for me is that a good manager gets the very best out of his players (i.e Bassett, Warnock)...clearly Adkins has not been able to do that in any form and hasnt a clue how to make it happen. Add to that the signings of Woolford, Hammond and Sammon and I can honestly say I have no faith what-so-ever in Positive Nigel. Other than hanging on to the dream that we can do a Southampton, there's nowt in his favour

Did you need to post this reply on this thread?

I'll make sure any further comments in relation to Adkins being wanted or out are kept in this thread, although there are other threads relating to Adkins being wanted or out in case you hadn't seen.

We have to get a manager in that fits with the blade mentality . Adkins first and biggest mistake was who he handed the captains arm band to ,that had the alarm bells ringing 8 months ago .

Second mistake, first was not sorting out centre halves.

People forget how long it took Warnock to create a side capable of challenging for promotion.

It wasn't instant.

It took ££££

And he signed shit players too.

ok lads, bristol city fan here rumour down here is steve cotterill has been contacted and is very interested, no idea if this is true but thought id share it with you, best of luck for the rest of the season.
Hat hav you heard? Till the end of the season or more "long" term?!

long term mate, cotts is ok if you have money to spend like we did last season, if your not going to spend hes no better than what you already have imo.

The answers to our problems are obviously not easy.
The board ultimately carry the can for their appointments and some degree the playing staff brought in.
These players are not what I have grown up to recognise as United players. They are so far removed from the mould it is untrue.
Having said that, I am pretty sure 2 or 3 of our gaffers the last 30 years would have done better with them than the 2x Nigels have!
I know you can't train in ability, but this lot lack organisation, motivation and commitment which you can coach/encourage/lift any player with.
Should we get rid of NA?
Don't think we can afford to TBH, but the board (or someone) needs to be careful what we let him bring in!

Depressing stuff guys (& girls)!

Chris Wilder? Really? Based on what exactly? He's an ex player and is currently doing well?

What happens if he doesn't achieve instant promotion? Get rid of him as well?

The problems at United are far bigger than just the manager, anyone can see that.

I'm loving these old threads it's like finding Dead Sea Scrolls in caves

life long home and away blade ,always try to see the positives , anybody that knows me will tell you I will always back the mighty blades and won't let anybody disrespect my club . But I'll tell you now we've been sold a pup by our pathetic board of directors ,if ever there was a rabbit caught in the headlights its Nigel Adkins and his two coaches . A swift cull is needed and Chris wilder needs to be brought in sharpish .with Deano his assistant . And a bloke in dooleys mould brought in at board level . Utb
We have to get the old blade spirit back or we are looking down the barrel of a gun

Good to see you'd remembered our chat in November 2015 . I told you then Adkins wasn't the answer and we needed Wilder asap . Does this mean I may actually get a drink off you :rolleyes:

It's been a cracking season pal , Im struggling to think of a better one if I'm honest . From where we were and how we all felt after last seasons end of season humiliation at home to Scunthorpe to what we're feeling now will take some beating !

Not bothered about getting things wrong mate, it's what posting on forums are about. Sometimes you're a football genius, sometimes you talk utter shite!

My concern was/is about continuously sacking managers, McCabe got one right for a change and I'm very happy about it!

I suppose when you've employed as many managers as McCabe has since Warnock left, you're bound to get one right eventually!

Fun fact - Nigel Adkins won one manager of the month award whilst he was Blades boss. At the time of writing, Chris Wilder has not won manager of the month whilst he was Blades boss.

I hope and suspect that this anomaly will be corrected at the end of the month.

Yeah, I'm sure we've all got some comments on the forum that others could unearth to much hilarity. I have to be honest and say I stayed out of this one as knew nothing about Wilder as a manager, only as a player.

Indeed, they should be taking GCV's off him retrospectively.

If youd have asked for virtually anyones " thoughts " at half time in the home game against Southend it would have been a miracle to find anyone predicting accurately how the season would have panned out .

I didn't want Wilder to be honest, nothing to do with his ability

I thought his past links with the club would have meant an acceptance of shit from the boardroom and this club would ruin his career

After all he's a fan, nobody would accept more shit than a fan, it's in his DNA to accept all the shit that goes with Sheffield United

But as a fan he could probably see what was wrong for a long time and immediately set about putting things right

Considering we were unbeaten in the league in Sept, Oct, Dec (100%), Feb & Mar, that is remarkable. Maybe 6/6 in April (only 1 goal conceded so far as well) might just do it.
