Why is it that our players are so reluctant to have a shot? We get the ball around the edge of the box often enough, but 99 out of 100 times, our players look to pass either sideways or backwards. They won't drive forwards and they won't shoot.
Are they scared or have they been instructed not to have a go, instead patiently waiting for the "perfect" chance, which invariably never arrives?
I don't like referring to them, but look at the shit up the road this season. They're one of, if not the highest scorers in the league above. A good number of their goals come from outside the area. Not because their players are brilliant, despite what their bell-end fans would have you believe, but because they're willing, and even keen, to have a go from distance.
Adkins' instructions for the next couple of games at least should be, if you've got the ball within about 5 or ten years of the area, have a fucking pop. And if your teammate has the ball in our around the area, anticipate that he's going to have a shot and charge in on the keeper, ready for any rebound or spilled shots. Put some pressure on and make the keeper work.
Our players look terrified of taking responsibility and taking a risk. Generally, the fans respond better to an inaccurate shot than five sideways passes, all from shooting positions. We're far more likely to get lucky off a deflected shot than a slow pass.
